.xCHAPTER 3x.
Persuit
She couldn't stop, they'd get her too, but she couldn't leave Marik! That was out of the question, but there wouldn't be much point of going back if they were more than likely going to shoot her too. Ishizu was in tears, and terribly frustrated she glanced over her shoulder to find that one of the hunters was now walking over to her brother. She bared her teeth with worry, then her face lightened a little.
Now that she was looking at him, she saw that he hadn't moved at all, or even fallen over. He just knelt in the same spot, hunched over grabbing his side perfectly still and coming to think about it he didn't scream or cry out when he got hit either. She suddenly grinned and mentally wished him care as she turned a corner, intending to lead the hunters chasing her around in a circle, hoping they would tire before she did.

Marik dared a glance down at his burning side. They had hit him but luckily it hadn't stuck into him, yet it hurt like crazy. It would slow him down terribly. He checked his hand and his eyebrows raised to find that amazingly his plan had worked and he had caught the wooden stake the hunters had shot at him. Now all he had to do was take them down with it.
Unfortunately for the blond, a female was walking up to him with a frown resting upon her forehead,
"You're not dead." She poked the vampire with her gun. Marik rose slowly, hiding the wooden stake as he did so.
The hunter raised her gun, expression turning to sudden determination, but Marik lunged for her.

Ishizu was not getting any faster; the hunters were slowing too but not as fast as she was. She had to be honest with herself; she was going to die very soon. A high-pitched scream raided the air, causing all of the hunters to stop and look back, of course this gave Ishizu the opportunity she needed and she ran from sight, her grin returning and she thanked her brother silently.
The hunters however headed back the other way, confusion and concern showing on their faces.
"I'm gonna bet... it's that new girl... Téa isn't it!"
"Bravo Malik!... I never knew you were that clev-"
"TÉA!" Atem screamed as he darted forward. The girl was whimpering in agony on the floor with tears falling rapidly, her bloodied hands clutching a wooden stake that had been forced into her stomach. A pool of scarlet blood formed on the paved ground beneath her.
"Téa!" He fell to her side, his lips trembling with anger as she gripped his hand, wincing harshly, "I'm going to kill that rat!"
"What do you think we were supposed to do in the first place? Invite them over for a chat?" Malik yelled this as Atem released the whimpering brunette's hand gently, slowly adjusting her position in order to examine her wound more closely, deliberately ignoring the blond hunter. Bakura's eyes flicked from one side to the other; searching.
"Well wherever he went," he sneered, "he's not going to be able to hide..." A smirk had appeared on the man's face. Malik looked confused.
"How do you know that?"
"Look at the floor! We must have caught him with the stake before he chucked it at her-"
"Her has got a name you know."
"Shut it Atem! And if you take your eyes of her for one moment you will see the little trail he has left for us to follow..." He pointed to the pavement in front of him, the menacing smirk again stuck to his face. Sure enough the grey stones were dotted with a black liquid, leading out of the park and over to the houses nearby.
"Nice one 'Kura! Now lets actually spike them!" The spikey haired blond started to run, following the droplets of black vampire blood, followed closely by Bakura.
"Wait!" The men whirled around to face an anxious-looking Atem. "What about Téa?"
"Fine you stay with her and we'll go get the rats!"

Marik ran around the neighborhood for what seemed like an age. He searched for his sister still clutching his side. The pain was growing and he knew he was leaving blood behind with every step he took. He found his way over to a shadowed alley and spotted the ebony hair of his sister sitting behind a mound of cardboard boxes; hiding from the hunters.
"Ishizu!" The elder vampire looked up, relief washing over her face. She stood at once glancing down the street before urging her brother forward. Marik ran over to his sister, happy to know she was alive.
She froze. Her face paled and the relief in her blue eyes turned to dread.
Marik turned to see two hunters charging up towards them, loading a thick sharpened stake into their heavy metal guns.
The blond vampire grabbed his sister's arm and pulled her with him, darting through the remaining half of alleyway and into the street behind. He could hear the heavy footsteps of the hunters' boots and knew they were rapidly approaching. The wound in Marik's side was starting to hurt a lot less but it was still slowing him down. Too much.
The hunters behind them were raising their newly loaded guns, the vampires were in their firing range. Marik could see a sharp turn up ahead, one that the hunters were being too fast to turn into as he did. If he and Ishizu were quick enough, they could hide whilst the hunters were turning around and making their way back to where he would turn. It was simple enough, he just had to tell Ishizu-
BANG!
The vampire shrieked in pure agony as the wood penetrated her chest. She let go of Marik's hand and fell to the ground, writhing in pain.
"ISHIZU!" Marik ran over to her; tears threatening his lavender eyes.
"Ma-rik...leave me...save...self..."
"No! You came back for me!"
"...You...weren't...fated to die..." The woman turned limp in his arms.
"Oh dear, oh dear looks like big sister's not here to bite us anymore is she?" Marik looked up. The hunters were looking down at him, a smirk plastered to each of their faces. One of them had a loaded gun pointing at him, the other what looked like a stick of lighted dynamite. "Well she definitely won't be now!" He cackled and threw it down onto the female's body, Marik cried out and jumped away. He turned around, watching his sister. He stared helplessly as orange flames engulfed her body, something inside the stick helping the burning process speed up. She was ashes in less than a minute.
"Now are you going to make this easy for yourself, and us, or are you going to make it hard? Because unlike you we've been working all day and we're very tired so...what is it going to be? Easy or ha- they always want to do it the hard way!" Marik had forced himself to run as his sister had wanted him to, he planned to do what he was going to before she had been killed.
Amazingly it worked, except there was a catch; there was nowhere to hide and the hunters were a lot quicker to turn back than he had anticipated. A small shop stood in front of him, he could run left or right of the shop, but the hunters could still fire at him and they would have a very good chance of hitting him. It was hopeless... or was it. The vampire spotted a door on the side of the small building and he took the chance.
The hunters behind him came to a halt and the one with a loaded gun raised it and took aim. It was nearly pitch black now and was becoming difficult to see. Marik used this as an advantage. He swiftly ran around the building, around the side opposite the door. The hunters snarled and followed quickly. The vampire came to the door and yanked it open, slipped inside and closed it then ducked down out of sight.
Marik pressed his ear against the door. He could hear the hunters storming around the building and halting in front of it.
"AH! THIS IS YOUR FAULT!"
"MY FAULT? HOW CAN IT BE MY FAULT?"
"IF YOU HADN'T TAKEN SO LONG TAKING AIM HE'D BE DEAD BY NOW!"
The second voice snorted and growled at the other who sighed impatiently.
"Look, we'd better get back to the other two and sort out the dead vampire before anybody sees. If the police get into this we'll never catch the last one." Marik silently thanked them for not trying to check inside any buildings and relaxed slightly. With his ear still pressed against the door, he listened to the two walking away bickering amongst themselves.
The lights suddenly flicked on, illuminating the shop.
"Who are you?"
