After the initial shock had worn off Jack forced himself to concentrate on saving Tru and the baby growing inside of her. So many thoughts were running through his head all at once and he didn't know how to arrange them all.

He knew he had to save them, but he also knew he shouldn't. He knew that when Richard found out, there would be hell to pay and that Harrison wasn't going to be jumping for joy either. Jack sighed, running his hand over his forehead to wipe a bead of sweat away.

Tru glanced at him, her face almost unreadable apart from the shadow of uncertainty that was looming in her mind and heart. After all, Jack was Death with a capital 'D', how could she be safely certain that he wasn't going to turn on her and kill both the baby and herself?

Jack saw the indecision on her face and hesitated only a moment before taking her hand, squeezing it and then gently setting it on the wall again, where it had been before his comfort.

Part of him almost desiratly wanted to hold onto her soft, warm hand forever. Her skin like satin, warming his own and his heart at the same time although there was no way in hell he would ever admit it.

The other, more hard, cold part of him wanted to smirk at the way she was being, all sad and droopy. Like a wilted flower that he wanted to chuck out because it was too late to press it and preserve its beauty. Jack felt sick listening to his other side. He would never do something like that, not even to Tru.

His job wasn't to kill, it was to make sure those meant to die, stayed dead.

But this time, His mind whispered, the job doesn't matter to me.

Tru hated the fact that when Jack took her hand her heart skipped a beat from its normal rhythm.

She hated that she was vaunrable to him and his actions. If he did choose to betray her, a choice she was staring to doubt, she knew she'd be hurt, wounded. She hated who she was becoming, but knew she wouldn't change it. The thoughts clouding her brain confused her. She knew, on one hand, that it was very stupid for her to trust the man her brother thought of as Death.

Stupid, then, for her to be falling in love with the way he smiled, so slightly, so thoughtfully, so Jack.

But with every moment that passed, every single, separate look he sent her, not needing words, she was realising how much she and the small child growing inside of her womb meant ot him.

Because from the look on his face when he glanced at her, they meant a pretty darned lot.

"Right," Jack suddenly sighed,"Right, I need to know who shot you, Tru," He glanced at her then added on softy, "If i don't know, i can't protect you and i need to be able to do that" Tru looked at him, wondering whether she could keep her eyes dry as she stated who had killed her with the bullet.

"C'mon, Tru," Jack murmered, looking into her deep brown eyes, "You can trust me" When she still didn't reply he thumped the table with his fist causing a few people still around to glance over and for Tru to jump. "What do i have to do to get you to belive me?" Jack demanded hotly. Wondering why she was afraid to trust him.

"It...Its not that i don't," Tru started, then shook her head "Not that i don't trust you, i just...i mean. Ugh!" She let out a frustrated cry and slapped her hands to her face.

"Daddy," She whispered quietly, trying to erase the memory of the man she had thought of as her father. As he had raised his arm and tightened his finger, shooting his only daughter in the heart.

"What" Jack frowned, not catching the pain filled, murmered word she had let slip past those lips of hers...those amazing, soft, full lips. Lips that he remembered on his body.

No, Harper. He commanded himself, Concentrate!

"Fine!"Tru suddenly hissed, startlying Jack out of his thoughts about sex with Tru. "My dad killed me! My own father!"

Jack stared at her, a cold feeling washing over him as he took in the words she had admitted.

The sad thing was..he had been expecting it.
