First Love Letter

Chapter 1 - A Beautiful Girl and A Confession

"Ittekimasu!" Sakura shouted as she flew out the white doors of her home strapped in her black rollerblades.

"Itteirasshai!" two distant voices called behind her as she disappeared around a corner.

Sweet cherry blossoms drifted lazily down the aroma thickened air. Sakura lifted her hand to disturb the pink petals as they swirled around her. A full flower floated past her, so pretty in it's blossom that Sakura couldn't stop herself taking off after it.

Dashing quickly, Sakura skated after it. Still, the wind was faster and it carried the flower further and higher. Racing against the wind, adrenaline pumped itself through her legs as she pushed herself forward. Reaching up, Sakura found the blossom was too high to grab.

Spotting a truck with a heavy wooden board positioned at an incline, Sakura brightened. Darting toward the incline, she picked up as much speed as she could. A smile of excitement pushed its way to her lips as she mounted the slope. A gush of wind carried her as she soared through the air toward the floating blossom. As she reached outward, silk met her fingertips as she closed her fingers around the flower. With a graceful landing, Sakura was back on the ground. Bringing the cherry blossom up to her nose, she took a swift of the flavorful fragrance. Loud clapping brought her back to reality.

"Hoe?" Sakura looked around her and found a girl standing a few feet away.

"Kyaa! Sugoi!" the girl exclaimed. "That was wonderful!"

A blush appeared on her already flushed cheeks as Sakura realized she had an audience. She scratched her head in embarrassment. A nervous laugh escaped her lips as she gave a bow. "Ha ha…that was nothing, really."

The girl walked up to her, still bestowing gleeful praises. As she got closer, Sakura let out a gasp of surprise at the beauty.

The girl was graceful in her walk, and she had a great figure. Long legs, slender thighs, a small waist, she could have been a model. She had the height, although Sakura could still see over her, and she was wearing heels, so that meant she was definitely shorter than Sakura. Her long black hair flowed down her back like silk shining in the bright morning sun. It encompassed a heart-shaped face that was mature and beautiful. Thick curvy lips, big round eyes, and a strong straight nose went perfectly well with the powerful cheekbones and the smooth jaw.

"Ano, what are you doing?" Sakura asked her as the girl circled Sakura.

"Just checking you out." The girl replied. She came back to stand in front of Sakura and smiled warmly. "You're cute. And very athletic. You could be my boyfriend."

Sakura stared in horror at the beautiful girl. "EHHHHHHHHHHHHHH?!"

A confused look came into the girl's eyes as she tilted her head to the side. "You don't want to be my boyfriend? Am I not pretty enough?"

Sakura shook her head. "That's not it! I'm a GIRL!"

"That's even better!" The girl smiled.

"WHAT?!"

The girl began to pace elegantly. "Well, I already figured that you were a girl. I mean, look." She pointed at Sakura's chest, being very blunt and serious.

Sakura felt her face become hot and had no doubt that she was blushing.

"You're pretty, too." she continued. "But if you were to dress in boy clothes, you could be taken as a very cute boy, with your height and all."

The girl could have any boy she wanted, Sakura thought. Sakura still didn't understand why someone as pretty as her would want a girl as a boyfriend. She decided to voice the question. "You're so pretty. Why would you want a girl boyfriend? You could get anyone you want!"

The girl stopped pacing and looked at Sakura. She put her finger to her lips, as if she was thinking. Another smile blossomed on her lips. "Well, I've never found anyone I liked before. And most of the guys aren't tall enough for my taste."

"And I am?" Sakura questioned, still confused by her requirements in a boyfriend.

"Hai." the girl nodded. "That, and I fell in love with you while watching you skate up the wooden pike there and jumping off so incredibly high just for that flower. After seeing that, I thought, that girl would do anything just to make the one she loved happy."

Sakura closed her mouth, realizing only now that she had dropped it open. "Y-you fell in love with me."

The girl nodded.

"You really fell in love with me?"

The girl nodded again. This time, Sakura saw that the girl was serious. Extremely serious.

"Cho-chotto matte! YOU REALLY FELL IN LOVE WITH ME?!"

The girl didn't bother to nod this time. Instead, she grabbed Sakura's arm, hugged it tightly, and said, "Yes, I did."

Sakura brushed her off as if she was a nasty bug and skated a few steps back. She couldn't resist pointing at the beauty and asking, "You fell in love with me?!"

The girl tilted her head. "How many times are you going to ask that?"

"Until it's not true!"

"Well, then you'll be asking that question for a long time. Maybe for the rest of your life."

Sakura simply shook her head. She didn't know what to do, or what to say. To her relief, a familiar voice called her name.

"Sakura-chan! Ohayou!"

Sakura turned and waved enthusiastically, glad that her best friend had come to save the day. "Ohayou Tomoyo!"

Tomoyo's sleek, black limo pulled up next to Sakura. Tomoyo got out and walked over to Sakura. "If you don't hurry, we're gonna be late for school, Sakura."

The girl narrowed her eyes at the familiar way the two called one another.

Tomoyo smiled over at her and asked, "Who's this, Sakura?"

"Ah, she is-"

The girl walked up to Tomoyo and stuck out her hand, quickly saying, "I'm Himeno Naomi, Sakura's girlfriend. It's nice to meet you."

Tomoyo took the girl's hand and smiled. "Eh? Sakura's girlfriend?"

"NO! I-I just met her!" Sakura shook her head frantically, her arms extended out in front of her and doing the same thing. "I didn't even know her name!"

Tomoyo giggled. "Well, then we seem to be having a misunderstanding here." Tomoyo looked the girl in the eyes and smiled her charming smile. "You see, I am Sakura's girl friend."

The girl stilled clasping Tomoyo's hand tightly in her own, smiled in return. "Well, I don't think we have a misunderstanding at all. You say that you are Sakura's girl friend, a friend who is a girl. I, on the other hand, say that I am Sakura's girlfriend, a girl who is dating her."

Sakura became frightened as the two continued to battle it out. She had to stop this before anything dramatic happens. "Well! I think I hear the school bell ringing!"

Grabbing Tomoyo and pushing her back towards the limo, Sakura turned to the girl and said, "I'm sorry, Himeno-san, but we've got to go!"

With that, Sakura pushed Tomoyo through the opened door of the limo and jumped in after her. The limo took off as soon as the door was closed.

Sakura let out a sigh, knowing she was finally safe. An eruption of giggles from beside her caused Sakura look at her best friend.

"That was so funny! And it was Junior high all over again! You got a confession on the first day of high school!"

Sakura let out another big sigh. She had sometimes wish she could be like Tomoyo, who was pretty and refined and could never be mistaken as a boy. Even when Tomoyo was trying to fight off fits of laughter, she was beautiful.

Tomoyo saw Sakura's gloom and stopped laughing, although there was still a trace of a smile. "Don't worry, Sakura-chan. You'll probably never see that girl again." Tomoyo patted Sakura's back.

Sakura brightened.

"But what about all the girls at school?"

"Hoe?"

Tomoyo pointed out the windows of the limo as they came to a stop by the gates of the school. Teenagers dressed in the light blue jacket, white shirt, black tie, and black skirts or pants of the school uniform littered around school gates. Many looked at the limo, curious, but otherwise continued their route to school undisturbed. Voices talked excitedly to one another, and a few here and there shouted loudly. Some students hung about the front gates, while many others made their way inside. It was a normal high school scene.

A very confused Sakura looked out the tinted windows of the limousine. Dread covered her face as she recognized familiar faces.

"It's the SLC." Tomoyo pointed out, more jubilant than she was supposed to be.

Sakura let out a groan. She had thought that leaving junior high would mean leaving the 'Sakura Lovers Club' behind. Her hopes of having a normal high school life had just died.

Author's Note: That's the end of chapter 1. What's going to happen next? Well!

Sakura runs into the SLC, which she had been avoiding the entire day at school. They ambush her and blindfold her. She ends up in the gym, with hundreds of screaming girls. The SLC announce a contest, and the winner? A private date with Sakura! What the heck is she going to do now? Well, escape, of course! But with the help of unexpected friends. Or are they enemies?

Anyway, I've clarified some things like Japanese words/phrases below in case they are incomprehensible to you!

"Itte irasshai!" - means 'Have a safe trip' (said to someone who is leaving)

"Hoe?" - pronounced 'ho-eh' and is Sakura personal word used to express confusion, surprise, fear and so on depending on how she says it.

"Kyaa! Sugoi" - 'kyaa' shows screaming in an excited tone; 'sugoi' means 'cool' or 'great'

"Ano" - means 'umm'

"EHHHH" - equivalent to 'what'

"Hai." - means 'yes'

"Chotto matter!" - means 'wait' or 'wait a minute'

"Ohayou" - means 'good morning' (common morning greeting)

'The girl narrowed her eyes at the familiar way the two called one another.' - in Japan, calling someone by their first name with no suffix like '-san' means that you are intimate with that person, a good friend or something

SLC - the Sakura Lovers Club; created by girls in Junior high devoted to Sakura who was extremely popular because of her great athleticism, cuteness, and open personality, which attracted many girls and boys
