Scene in a Diner
"Coffee."
"What? I didn't even ask. What is it, decaf?"
"Smell. Taste. It's not decaf."
"Mmm. You're right. Why?"
"Just avoiding argument."
"No way. No, you feel sorry for me because Rory's gone. Fine, smile and walk away. I know. Hey, get me a muffing when you get back!"
"Muffin. Have you talked to her yet?"
"Last night. Two hours."
"That's nice."
"Yeah. We were supposed to start our roller coaster trip today."
"I know."
"Hence the coffee?"
"Hence the coffee."
"How did you know?"
"Every now and then I pay more attention than you think I do. And April and I were supposed to start our boat trip today."
"Oh, that's right. Sorry."
"Me, too."
"Hey, you know what we should do?"
"That doesn't sound good coming from you."
"We should take our own trip. We'll take your boat and hit a couple of roller coasters on the way up to the southern coast of Maine."
"You'd sleep on my boat?"
"I didn't say that. We can stop at hotels."
"Yeah, I mean, I booked a few for April like you told me to. Maybe I can get my reservations back, maybe make a few more."
"That's good. How about the roller coasters? Hit 'em as we see 'em?"
"Can we do that?"
"Why not?"
"When do we leave?"
"Tomorrow."
"The Inn…"
"Wasn't expecting to be there, anyway. The diner?"
"Caesar can handle it."
"So we're doing this?"
"We're doing this."
"Look who's suddenly Mr. Spontaneity."
"Things have changed."
"But not too much?"
"No. Not too much."
