Author's Notes: I wrote this because I was feeling tired and happy and a certain Stars song came on my computer. I just wanted to write something warm and soft before bed and these two do that for me. Here's to under-the-table pairings.

A short scene placed somewhere in-game. Enjoy.

We don't want to sleep tonight
Still young like that I count the lines
Beside your mouth that smiles now
My arms reach up as you go down
With buried heads we both forget
All of the past and its regret
Wind picks up, the window shakes
We won't hear the morning break

... cuz all the love's alive tonight

- Sleep tonight, Stars

Hello, Goodnight

I've always liked Cosmo Canyon. The stars here are just beautiful. If I listen closely enough, sometimes I can almost hear them singing.

The nights are always pleasantly warm – not hot but not cool, just a dry warmth that the rocks give off in the evening. I can imagine why these people have gathered here; this place is blessed by the Planet.

My room is one of the older ones, the balcony carved straight out of the red rock face. The railing is a painted white metal and even it feels warm under my fingers. The landing is just large enough for two people to stand comfortably together. It's a good place to watch the stars from. For once, my hair is down and the wind tugs at it a little. I tuck a strand behind my ears, looking up. I'm wearing one of the terrycloth robes that the inn has provided… the air feels good on my skin.

I hear someone step behind me and I smile without looking back. I can feel my companion watching me.

"It's pretty outside," I tell him and he detaches from the door's frame, walking out to join me. He's unusually casual right now, a sight that I appreciate and devour. His red bandana is still keeping his hair out of his face but he's uncharacteristically under-clothed. He's left the cape inside and he stands bare-chested beside me in his black pants. Sockless, shoeless, I try and remember the last time I've seen him move around this comfortably and I can't. I lean against the railing and sigh. Vincent cocks an eyebrow at me.

"It's nice," I say uselessly and he nods once, looking up at the stars.

"… It is," he says simply.

My smile is quiet and I hide it behind my hair.

It's nice to see you like this, Vincent Valentine.
