Arizona was flattered, of course. Anyone would appreciate hearing those things. Especially when they come from someone who can penetrate your soul with her stare, like Amelia. A few hours ago, Arizona would NEVER imagine looking at Amelia as anything other than a friend or colleague. But after all the revelations from their talk, suddenly Amelia started to cause something different inside of Arizona.
At the same time, Amelia was nervous inside the bathroom. She didn't expected to say those things to her, but she didn't regret it either. She washed her face with cold water before going back there.
"I'm back. Do you want another glass of wine?" – Amelia asked, noticing Arizona's empty glass.
"No, thank you. It's getting late, actually. We have a busy day tomorrow" – Arizona said.
"You're right. I didn't realize how late it was" – Amelia agreed.
"Time flies when we're having a good time" – Arizona said it before she could think about it. It made her flush.
"I'm glad you had a good time, too" – Amelia said, touching Arizona's hand and feeling her body shivers.
They ended the night with that good feeling inside of them. It could be just an illusion, this feeling of being understood, but it was a good one.
Early in the morning on the next day, they both ran into each other inside the patient's room. Arizona would run a few more tests before the surgery, scheduled to the end of the day. Every now and then, they both exchanged glances but immediately looked other way, trying not to blush. Seeing from outside, they looked like two teenagers discovering what it is to fall in love, although it was still too early to see.
Before the surgery started, Arizona was highly concentrated while scrubbing in. She was worried about the surgery, even though she was one of the few in the country who could perform it more successfully. Amelia entered the room in a hurry and almost bumped into Arizona.
"Oh, sorry! How are you?" – Amelia asked, noticing Arizona has a worried face.
"Fine. And you?" – Arizona
"Fine, too. You seem worried" – Amelia said.
"Well, I'm a little bit. It's not an easy surgery" – Arizona confessed.
"You're gonna do great. There's no one better than you at this. I'm pretty confident, you should be too" – Amelia smiled the whole time saying this.
"Thank you, Amelia. I needed to hear that" – Arizona smiled, too.
When the surgery started, both doctors kept exchanging looks every now and then. Clearly, they admire each other, but it was something more than just that. The surgery was going fine until a massive bleeding started.
"I need suction in here, STAT. And I need more hands, too, please" – Arizona asked, maintaining her calm.
"Wilson, get in here, please" – Carina ordered.
"Shepherd, how is her brain activity?" – Arizona asked
"Still normal. No seizures" – Amelia answered
After controlling the bleeding, Arizona was able to remove the tumor, although it was soon to know how was going to be its development after the surgery. Arizona left the OR and sat on the floor, in the corridor, looking exhausted.
"Congratulations!" – Amelia greeted her.
"Thanks. For you, too. The whole team" – Arizona said.
"Yeah, but without you we wouldn't be able to save this baby. Now let's hope we find out what the hell is wrong with her brain" – Amelia said, while sitting on the floor beside the blonde.
"She still have a long road ahead of her. It's not gonna be an easy pregnancy" – Arizona said.
"Yeah. I know. And what about you? Are you coming home today?" – Amelia asked.
"Tomorrow morning" – Arizona answered.
"Really? Oh, let's celebrate tonight, then" – Amelia exclaimed.
"I'm really tired, Amelia. You should celebrate with DeLuca and Wilson. I'm no good for celebrations" – Arizona said, a little sad.
"Well, there's nothing to celebrate without you. Just one hour. Please?" – Amelia insisted - "Please? For me?"
"Ok. One hour. I'll meet you at Joe's" – Arizona said, smiling.
