I sit here, upon the roof,
Trying not to care,
But there is something in her eyes,
Perhaps the glistens of her stare?
We are friends, the best of them,
But I want so much more,
There is something that has kept me
From revealing what I have in store.
When near her I am lost,
Of the world I'm not aware,
All I can do is lose myself
In the glisten of her stare.
All around me life goes on,
But with her I have froze,
Staring at her gorgeous face,
Lips the color of a rose
For years I have waited,
And I find that I have to care,
Finding the time to make my move,
Nearing the glisten of her stare.
I want so badly to make my move,
But know I must resist,
Even though all I want
Is to plant on her a kiss.
Our lips draw near
As I play with her hair
And she shuts her eyes, momentarily cutting off
The glisten of her stare.
And then I think about her rejecting me,
And have to pull away,
Her eyes fill with confusion,
And I have to say,
"I love you with all my heart,
But we cannot be a pair,
I am always distracted,
By the glisten of your stare."
A soft smile graces her lips,
And immediately I know,
I have been a fool,
And our romance had to go.
"Oh, how foolish you are
I love you as well
But I know if you don't want this,
It is just as well.
I doubt we could make it,
It would pull the team apart,
But what is that expression you use?
I believe you have broken my heart."
She stands and walks away,
And I hear a muffled weep
Later that night I lay in my bed,
Unable to sleep.
I go into the kitchen,
Sit down in a chair,
And all I can think about,
Is the glisten in her stare.
"Oh how I wish I could take that away
I have ruined all we had,
And now I must sit here,
Heart soaking in bad.
Why did I not let my feelings forth,
And let myself be heard?
Now that I have ruined it,
To me you will not speak a word."
Someone touches my shoulder,
I turn slow and without care,
And as she pulls my lips to hers I am caught,
In the glisten of her stare.
Robin stumbled into the kitchen and leaned against the counter. Starfire was making breakfast.
"Man, you look terrible! Did you sleep at all last night?" Cyborg asked. Robin smiled.
"Not much. I had other things going on." Starfire's cheeks turned red, and it wasn't because of her standing over a hot stove. No, she, too, was caught up…
In the glisten of his stare.
