Lordy how they could love

Swore to be true to each other

Just as true as the stars above

I was hovering at the window… watching Artemis. I'm not a stalker or anything. Worse really, I'm a stupid, careless elf that's fallen in love. And worse than that… I've expressed my love.

I was so sure we could overcome the barriers. I thought that all that really mattered was that we were in love. I forgot that I was just assuming that Artemis loved me back.

My brain keeps flashing back to that moment…

Holly stood, barely reaching Artemis's shoulder, her eyes tilted upwards, watching him carefully. Tentatively, she reached up and touched his face. He turned to look at her with those blue eyes... Totally absorbed, she rose up to kiss him-

"Holly!" Artemis exclaimed, "What are you doing?" Holly jumped back. "Holly." He began again, "Listen."

"I love you Artemis!" She blurted out. Horrified, she covered her mouth. Artemis's eyes widened, and he stepped back, shaking his head slowly, as if trying to clear it. That was enough for Holly. She ran.

That was it. My one chance to tell him how I felt and I ran. The song that was playing keeps echoing through my head. It wasn't one of those famous, catchy songs, but an old one. A sad one too, but all I could hear were the parts that I wanted to hear… the parts I thought were real.

Now I sit here, looking at Artemis through his bedroom window. It's pointless. I'm pointless. And yet…

Swore to be true to each other…

...Just as true as the stars above…

Artemis couldn't stop thinking about Holly. She'd told him that she loved him. The words- Her words "I love you" ran through his head over and over. As he sat, hunched over, on his bed he couldn't help but wonder if he shouldn't have said the same words back to Holly. They were true weren't they? But somehow… he couldn't bring himself to do it. He would open his mouth, but even when Holly wasn't there, they just wouldn't come out.

And Holly was gone. He would never kiss her; she would never touch his face…

Slowly, sadly, Artemis got up to look out the window… and stopped, paralyzed, for there was Holly, watching him. She was there, at the window!

--

He's there… at my window!

--

He could tell her…

--

I can explain.

--

…that he loved her!

--

But what if…

--

But what if…

--

…he doesn't care?

--

…she's changed her mind?

--

So many questions.

--

Not enough answers!

--

"He was her man…"

Yes?

--

"…but he was doing her wrong."

No.

Artemis slowly reached across and closed the curtains. He couldn't do it. "Goodbye Holly." He mouthed slowly. Then he bowed his head. It was just too hard. He couldn't help but do her wrong.

This story has no moral

A/N- Yeah… it was weird, I agree. Still, I hope you liked it (and reviews very much appreciated, even if they are negative. I know my writing has a lot of improving to do)

End Author's Note.

A/N- So there it was… the original. I made NO changes… even keeping the original A/Ns and stuff because people replied to them (at least… I think they did… o.O)

It was alright, I guess… heh. I'm still glad I rewrote it though. The idea's a little strange to begin with really. Please review- it'll be muchos, muchos, MUCHOS appreciated.

Again (is this the third time I've said this?… heh… sorry), many, many many thanks to my absolupositifaboowondersuperduper AMAZING reviewers. It's reviews that make me want to improve a story that it meets the standards of the wonderful people who are reading it.

Rigth well… enough of me babbling. Thanks again for reading…

Muchos luff and all that kind of Shtuff

Froggie.

PS. I'm not posting the song lyrics after all. It turns out they made the story stretch for like…6 pages. Who knew the song was so long? It seems rather short in my head. The general gist of it is this: Frankie and Johnny are married, but he cheats on her with a gal named Nellie (or Alice depending on the version) Bligh. For whatever reason he does this is the lobby of a hotel where pretty much everyone can see him (he's a little thick)… so Frankie being the levelheaded woman that she is goes and shoots him. Three times. (It says' Rooty toot toot' in the song! Yay!). Surprise surprise Johnny keels over… and then Frankie gets dragged off to jail where she sort of looks around and sees stuff ( I don't really get that part… whatever)… and then she talks to the sheriff who tells her she's going to the electric chair. So anyway, even though she shot him, it all gets blamed on men in the end. Good song, good song. (Wow… my description is as long as the song itself) It's got nothing to do with Holly/Artemis… but a good song all the same. Joyness!
