(A response to an inquiry: This is about the young troll in the story. No, I never gave him a name. I didn't know were to begin to find an appropriate name, so I just started writing. The young troll was actually an after thought. However, his presence led to a plot development in my mind. The young troll led to the development of the Captain of the Palace Guard. I'm open to suggestion for the little guy. Otherwise I might have to go back to the Frozen movie and see what Kristoff calls his troll family when he returns to them.)
The servant, who had brought food to Kristian and the trolls, quickly departs the dungeon and reports to the other palace staff about what needs to be done. While the palace staff was making their arrangements, the Captain of the Palace Guards was just starting to make his case in front of the royal council. It was during the end of the heated discussion of the council that the boat landed on the palace island.
"The boat is here!" exclaims the young troll as he jumps down from the window.
"It is time then," says Kristian as he sits on the edge of his bed. Then with a big sigh, Kristian pushes himself up into a standing position.
With Kristian erect, the group begins to proceed at a slow pace. They move slowly because Kristian is trying to control his fire. Soon they come near the entrance of the dungeon. It was here that they were able to see the two guards at the entrance.
"We need to find a way around these guards, or a way to draw them away," says Kristian.
"Leave that to me!" exclaims the young troll. "I will be able to draw them away from the exits." In an instant, the young troll rolls up and quickly rolls out between the two guards. The guards are startled by this rolling stone, but they are even more startled when the young troll unrolls in front of them. "Hi guys! So what's up?" exclaims the young troll.
The guards are shocked, and they stand motionless for a brief moment. Finally they draw their swords. "Hold fast, monster!" says one of the guards as both men approach the young troll.
"Hold fast? Hold onto what?" replies the young troll cheekily. Then the young troll begins to move quickly away from the two guards.
The guards follow the young troll as he moves from one corner of the room to another corner. "Stop moving around!" shouts one of the guards. Eventually, the two guards get separated some. As they are separated, the young troll manages to get in between the two men. Once the young troll gets there, the two guards come charging at him. At the last second, the young troll jumps clear of the two guards. The guards try to respond to the youngster's quick movements, but they only end up colliding with one another. So in the end, the two men end up entangled with each other on the floor. Meanwhile, the young troll stands several feet away looking at the two men struggling on the floor.
"You guys need help?" says the young troll cheekily as he watches the two men.
Eventually the two men get untwined and they begin to get to their feet. "Get him!" exclaims one of the guards as both men begin to run after the young troll.
"You're welcome to try!" exclaims the young troll as he begins to run away from the two men, with a big grin on his face.
Soon the young troll runs out of the room, and the two guards run after him. Once the guards had left the vicinity, Kristian and the others walk out of the dungeon. "That kid has got some moves," says Kristian with a smile. "I hope he hasn't taken on more than he can handle."
"He should be fine, as long as he doesn't become too reckless," replies Grand Pabbie. "However, right now we need to get you to that boat."
"Don't worry about him," chirps Olaf. "While you two go outside to the boat, I'll go help the young guy out!" As Grand Pabbie and Kristian begin to head for the boat, Olaf hurries off in the direction that the young troll went.
In another part of the palace, the young troll is running away from the two guards that are chasing him. He is having a grand time of it. Every once in a while, the young troll will stop and wait for the guards to catch up before he darts off again. However, the young troll's fun is soon going to become more serious.
As the young troll runs through the palace, he passes some of the servants. They are a bit surprised to see the young troll but they are not afraid. All the servants were apprised of the troll's presence, and the reasons that they were in the palace. However, what really shocks these servants is the fact that the young troll is being chased by the two guards.
Eventually, the young troll's run brings him in front of another set of guards. These men were a little more prepared for the shock of seeing the young troll because of the commotion that the chase was making. The presence of these new guards force the young troll to make an abrupt stop. This allows the guards that were chasing him to catch up.
"Uh-oh," says the young troll as the big smile on his face fades a little. Now the young troll has to hop around the room as he tries to avoid being captured or injured. As his movements are now being more confined, more guards are able to show up to aid in the young troll's capture.
As things start to get a little dicey for the young troll, a voice is heard coming from outside the room. It is Olaf, and he yells, "Look out!" What happens next is that a handcart comes sliding into the room. The handcart knocks some of the guards off of their feet. This momentary distraction allows the young troll to dart for the door. However, some of the men are right on his tail.
Just as the young troll is about to be caught, Olaf steps into the room. Olaf then says, "Hi!"
"Look out!" exclaims the guard with his hand just on the young troll's shoulder. However, it was too late.
The young troll manages to move around Olaf, but the guard was not so lucky. The guard collides right into Olaf. This collision sends the guard and Olaf sprawling across the floor. As a snowman, Olaf's body sections become separated from one another. These body sections along with the fallen guard also cause the following men to be tripped up as well. This floundering group of men gives the young troll a little breathing room, but not for long.
"You stupid snowman!" exclaims one of the guards as he gets to his feet. In a moment, this guard and other men were once again chasing after the young troll.
Because of the bottlenecks that the guards were causing, the young troll eventually has to head up the stairs. While going up the stairs, the young troll passes a servant there. The servant is carrying a covered tray, and he pauses as he watches the young troll pass. Then the servant sees the guards who are chasing the young troll. In response, the servant drops the tray, and the tray goes sliding and tumbling down the stairs.
"Ah, watch it!" exclaims one of the guards as the men have to struggle to avoid the tray and lid.
"Oops, sorry," says the servant with a slight smile on his face.
As the troll was making his run through the palace, a vote was held with the royal council and the vote was split. The Captain of the Palace Guards was not pleased with this vote. "What is wrong with all of you!" exclaims the Captain angrily. "Don't you realize the grave danger that we are all in! Action must be taken before we ourselves are destroyed by this man's demonic fire!"
"We are all in agreement that action must be taken, but there is a disagreement about what that action should be," replies the Chancellor. "Many of us here, still do not believe that your finally solution for Kristian is warranted."
"It doesn't matter if the council as a whole does not support my solution to the problem. However, since the council does agree that action has to be taken, I intend to proceed with the elimination of Kristian," exclaims the Captain.
A few of the members of the council erupt in protest, while others respond in support of the Captain. Then after a short moment the Chancellor speaks up. "Captain! This discussion may be justified, but we are all forgetting an important detail! Queen Elsa has made Kristian a royal emissary of Arendelle! This title means that Kristian is a member of the royal court! As such, he must be presented with an opportunity to defend himself! We have also not asked Kristian, what he proposed to do about the current situation!"
"We cannot consult with this man!" exclaims the Captain. "Any such move would alert Kristian to our intentions, and we would loss any kind of advantage we would have over him!"
Just then shouts were heard coming from outside the room, and everyone is puzzled by the noise. As the Captain begins to walk towards the door, a guard comes running into the room. "Sir, there is a monster running lose in the palace!" exclaims the guard.
Then the Captain turns back towards the Chancellor. "And you thought that we should have consulted with this monster," snarls the Captain. "This discussion with the royal council may have already made us too late to act!" With that, the Captain storms out of the room to find out exactly what was happening.
In almost an instant, the Captain and the two guards that were with him find the source of the noise. What the Captain finds is the young troll running through the halls with a large number of his Elite Guards chasing after him. "What are my men doing?" says the Captain with distain. "Any fool can see that this is nothing more than a diversion." Then speaking with the two men that are with him, the Captain says, "Come, eventually this creature is going to want to go outside. We will be outside waiting for it."
As the Captain and his two guards head outside, the young troll runs through the second floor of the palace. He is partly enjoying this chase, but things have gotten a little more difficult for the young troll. Still this was an adventure for him. Of course he was not alone with the palace guards up here. There were also a few servants attending to their duties.
In one instance, the young troll comes across a servant carrying a load of linens. This servant steps off to the side without fear to let the troll pass. However, after the young troll passes, she lets out a fake scream and tosses the linens into the air. These linens come down on top of the guards chasing the young troll. Some of the guards are totally covered, and a few trip over the linens too. Those guards behind crash into the others and they all tumble to the floor. As this happens, the young troll turns around and waves to the servant and the servant waves back with a smile.
In another instance, the young troll comes into a long hall with a servant using a pail and mop. The floor was a bit wet so the young troll jumps and slides down the hall. As the young troll slides past, the servant kicks her pail over and the soapy water goes all over the floor. This causes the chasing guards to slip and fall to the floor again.
Finally the young troll makes it to the stairs, and he goes sliding down the banister. At the bottom, he runs into Olaf. "Come on, this way!" exclaims Olaf as he begins to run. The young troll follows Olaf to a door at the far end of the room. Once they get to the door, Olaf stops and turns around. "Head through the door and down the hall. The servants will direct you to where the boat is located," says Olaf. "I will delay your playmates."
So as the young troll departs through the door, the pursuing guards make it to the bottom of the stairs. However, as they come running to the door, Olaf shoves against a suit of armor. This suit of armor falls into another suit of armor, and this next suit falls into another suit of armor. Olaf has just set off a domino effect with a whole row of armor suits. These suits quickly fall and scatter across the floor. The men pursuing the young troll try to avoid the falling armor. A few of the men manage to jump clear, but others get entangled with each other and the falling armor.
While the guards struggle with the armor that now covers a large area of the floor, Olaf happily runs through the door. Once Olaf shuts the door behind him, a servant there pulls out a key and locks the door. "I can hold them here for a short while. So be quick," says the servant.
"Thank you, and thank everyone for their help!" exclaims Olaf as he waves while he runs away.
"Your welcome and my wishes for Kristian's recovery!" replies the servant loudly as so to be heard by the departing snowman.
Outside standing next to the boat is Kristian and Grand Pabbie. They are both waiting here for the young troll to show up after his diversionary run. As Kristian stands there, small flames can be seen coming off of his body. This is because Kristian can no longer contain and control the magic that is inside of him. Also with the boat are two men. The boat belongs to one man, while the other man was a palace guard. This guard was not a member of the Elites. He and many of his other fellow men were replaced by the Captain by the Elite Guards at the palace.
While waiting for the young troll to return, Grand Pabbie says, "What is that child up to? He knows we cannot stay here for long."
"I'm sure he will be fine," replies Kristian. "He is probably trying to distract as many men as possible."
Sirs, while you wait, shouldn't you at least board the boat?" asks the guard.
"We almost should," says Kristian to Grand Pabbie. "We may need to leave in a hurry." So Kristian and Grand Pabbie turn, and they walk towards the sailing boat. However, as they near Kristian stops and looks at the boat. "I never gave it a thought, but how am I going to board a wooden boat," says Kristian as he looks at his hands. Everyone can see small flames coming off of his fingers.
"There is a solution to this problem," says Grand Pabbie. "All you need is a barrier between you and the wood of the boat." So Grand Pabbie lifts up his hands, and his magic begins to do its work. Small stones begin to rise from the ground, and they quickly float through the air to the boat. In no time, the small stones cover an area of the boat in a uniform even mosaic.
While this was going on, the Captain has assembled some men in the courtyard. He was planning on capturing the young troll out here. "That monster will eventually be forced to depart the palace," states the Captain. "When he does, it will have to leave by the palace bridge. If we can force it onto the bridge, the monster will be trapped. With men at both ends of the bridge, there will be no place for this creature to go."
While the Captain was giving these instructions to the men, the Chancellor comes walking up to the Captain. "Captain, you are going beyond what is necessary!" exclaims the Chancellor. "What purpose will it serve to capture or even kill this being? All that is needed is to allow it to leave the palace."
"And if we do, what will stop the next creature from entering the palace?" strongly asks the Captain. "An example needs to be made, and elimination of this creature will prevent it from returning to Arendelle!"
Now back outside near the boat, Grand Pabbie has finished with his fire proofing of the boat. "There, the vessel is ready for you to board," says Grand Pabbie.
"Well let's see if it actually holds up against my fire then," replies Kristian.
However, before Kristian is able to attempt to put himself on board, the young troll comes running out of the palace through a side door. "Hey guys! Did you miss me?" exclaims the young troll.
"It was more being worried than actually missing you," replies Grand Pabbie. "Still, it is good to see you here. Now you can help me get on board."
"Sure thing Pabbie," responds the young troll as he goes to help lift Grand Pabbie onto the boat. Once Grand Pabbie was on board, the young troll easily hops onto the boat as well.
Now, Kristian moves to climb onto the boat. However, for Kristian to climb onto the boat, he has to step into the water. As he does this, the heat from Kristian's foot causes a burst of steam to erupt. The steam has enough force to partly lift Kristian off the ground. However, by using his upper body, Kristian is able to swing himself into the boat. However, he lands with a thud onto his back.
Unfortunately, this burst of steam shoots up high; and it is visible over the top of the courtyard wall. "What is that?" asks the Captain of the Palace Guard. Then a realization of what might be going on comes to the Captain. "You men with me!" then exclaims the Captain to a small group of men that were standing close to him. "Our quarry may have evaded us!"
With this, the Captain quickly proceeds to the location of the steam burst with his sword drawn. He is followed there by the small group of men. Unfortunate for the Captain, by the time he gets to the location, the sail boat was several yards off the bank. The only one the Captain finds on the shore is the guard. While the boat was away, the Captain could still see the individuals that were on the boat. Besides the boat's owner, the Captain could see Kristian and the two trolls.
"Why didn't you stop them?!" exclaims the Captain to the guard.
"Queen Elsa left orders that Kristian was to be taken care of," replies the guard. "I'm trying to do that to the best of my abilities."
"And by your actions, you have put all of Arendelle in danger!" exclaims the Captain.
"Why do you think that?" exclaims Olaf as he just comes up on the group of men. "With Kristian leaving the village, the risk of an accidental fire disappears."
"The risk is not gone! It is only delayed!" shouts the Captain. "And I intend to put an end to that risk." With that, the Captain sheaths his sword and grabs a loaded crossbow from one of the men. Now, the Captain aims the crossbow out to the boat and to the spot where Kristian was sitting.
"NO!" exclaims Olaf as he rushes forward and collides into the Captain. This collision causes the Captain to become unbalanced and his crossbow bolt sails way off its mark.
"Argh!" yells the Captain as he then quickly draws his sword. Without thinking, the Captain swings his sword down at Olaf.
Olaf screams as the sword comes down. However, all the sword manages to do is to knock Olaf's head off. You decapitated me!" says Olaf as his body reaches down to pick up his head. "That wasn't a very nice thing to do."
"You are a fool, Olaf!" exclaims the Captain. "Your idiocy is intolerable, and your existence should be ended!" Then the Captain turns to the guard that had helped Kristian to leave. "As for you sir, you are removed from the ranks of the guard; and for your actions, you shall be imprisoned for treason!"
"You shall do no such thing, Captain" exclaims the Chancellor as he comes walking up to the group. "You have every right to decide who will be allowed into the guards. However, I will protest the imprisonment of this man; and you will find that many on the council will agree with me. For this man has provided us a solution that we all have been seeking, a way to protect Arendelle. I think you will find that the council will be more than satisfied with the outcome of this incident."
"So be it!" loudly growls the Captain. "It is over for now; but I warn you, this man is a danger to Arendelle! In time you will all see that I am right!"
While this was happening by the palace, the sail boat travels out of sight. The boat continues for a while before it makes land again. By now the sail boat is far enough away that it would take horses a few hours to reach this location. Once the boat makes land, Kristian and the two trolls disembark from the vessel. Just as they were about to head inland, a horse and cart comes down the path towards the water.
The horse and cart stop a few feet away from Kristian, and the driver gets down from the cart. "Hello Kristian!" says the driver. "I was hoping that I would be able to get here before you left."
"Well you found me," replies Kristian, a little wary of what this individual might be up too. "Is there something that I can do for you?"
"You have already done enough for me, sir," replies the man. "My home was one of the many houses that were buried by the avalanche earlier this year. Thanks to you, I was able to get back into my home. I had not yet properly thanked you. So when I heard that you were in need of help, I offered my services and my horse and cart. They are at your service for as long as you need them."
"I really don't know what to say, but thanks," replies Kristian. "With all the trouble that I have been causing in Arendelle, I'm surprised that I have any friends left in the village."
"There are those that feel that you are a danger, but there are others that trust the queen. If she believes in you then that is enough for them to believe in you as well." Then this man heads down to the water were the boat is waiting. "It would be best if we did not hang around here too long. I shall head back with the boat, while my cart is at your disposal."
With this the man climbs onto the boat and waves goodbye to Kristian. Kristian returns this wave before turning back to the horse and cart. "You certainly have a lot of friends in Arendelle," says the young troll.
"Elsa has a lot of friends. I'm just being pulled along in her wake," replies Kristian.
"Perhaps you are, but I would not sell yourself short," says Grand Pabbie. "While Elsa may have allowed others to look at you in a more favorable light, it has been you alone that has kept these friends in these trying times. Now, why don't we prepare this cart for the last leg of this journey?"
With this, Grand Pabbie once again uses his magic to raise small pebbles from the ground. These pebbles quickly cover the back of the cart, thus creating a protective layer against Kristian's fire. Once done, everyone climbs onto the cart with Grand Pabbie taking the reins. Then the cart takes off to a safe location among the rock trolls.
Once among the trolls, Kristian was taken to a place where he could lay down comfortably without his fire causing any harm. It was a pleasant place that had a stream nearby that helped cool the air. Kristian also had several trolls that would take turns attending to him.
For the rest of the day, Kristian's only company was the trolls. However, shortly after the sun set for the day, another individual showed up among the trolls. It was Olaf, and he had one of the horses from the palace harnessed up to Kristoff's ice cart. The cart has several blocks of ice on it.
"Hey Kristian!" chirps Olaf as he stops the cart. Then Olaf quickly hops down from the cart. "Are you doing OK?"
"I wish I was doing better," replies Kristian as he lies on his bed. Flames project off the surface of his body. "But in my current condition, I'm fortunate that I am still around. I can tell it already, that the fire that I am producing is beginning to take its toll on me."
"You just need to be cooled down," says Olaf as he stands next to Kristian's bed. "That is why I bothered to bring all this ice with me."
"We will certainly make good use of it," replies Grand Pabbie. "We will utilize the ice to help reduce Kristian's body temperature. The longer that we are able to keep Kristian cool, the longer we will be able stave off the petrification."
"The petri-what?" asks a puzzled Olaf.
"The process of turning an object into stone," replies Grand Pabbie. "The ice you brought will be a good start to slow the process, but we will need more. Are you able to obtain more ice?"
"Sure, Kristoff has a whole building full of ice," chirps Olaf. "I can easily get more."
"Olaf, you can't use up all of Kristoff's ice for me," objects Kristian. "His ice business is his life. If you take it all, he won't have a business left for the rest of the year."
"Kristoff has more to his life than just ice. Ice is only his business," replies Olaf. "A big part of his life is Anna, and along with Anna is Arendelle. You are now a big part of Arendelle and an important part in Anna's life. After all; you are dating her sister, Elsa. So I am sure the Kristoff won't mind if I use his ice to help you out."
"I'm not all that certain about that," says Kristian as he is uneasy about taking advantage of Kristoff like this.
"Oh, it will be fine," chirps Olaf. "Besides, if Kristoff needs more ice, I'm certain that Elsa will be able to make more for him without any problem.
As Kristian thinks about this, he realizes that Olaf was right about this. "OK, Olaf, I guess Kristoff won't be too upset with us taking his stored ice," replies Kristian.
"It is good that you got that settled," says Grand Pabbie. "Now let me get to work and see if I can give you a good night's sleep." With that, Grand Pabbie creates his magical ether. This ether moves over the ice blocks on the cart, and it begins to peel off small crystals of ice. Soon the ether is full of glittering ice crystals as it floats back over to Kristian.
Kristian is soon enveloped by this ether, and the flames on his body soon recede to small flickers. As Kristian's body temperature drops so do the lids of his eyes. Soon Kristian is able to fall into a restful sleep. As Kristian sleeps, Grand Pabbie and other experienced trolls continue to maintain this magical ether for the duration of Kristian's stay with the trolls.
