Way up north; the ship carrying Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff has reached the point where the Fire Glacier ends and the sea begins. As the ship nears, everyone has to look up because the glacier stands high above the ship.
"Whoa, that is a lot of ice," exclaims Kristoff.
"I've heard about places like this, but I have never dreamt of it being this massive," adds Anna as she marvels at the sheer size of the glacier. "You must almost be in heaven right now."
"I won't deny about being excited," replies Kristoff. "But I am still more impressed by the flawless nature of Elsa's creations."
"All I can think of is the power that it must have taken to create all this ice," interjects Elsa. "It must have taken centuries to form, and all that power is just sitting here."
Just then a shout is heard coming from the captain of the ship. "Your highness, this is as close as we can get to the glacier; and I see no place to land! The rock walls are nearly sheer faces, and the glacier top is too high to reach!"
"Thank you, captain; but that is a simple matter for me to overcome," replies Elsa. "Prepare the sled, and bring Sven above deck."
"Elsa, are you sure you will be all right to use your magic again?" asks a concerned Anna.
"I've avoided using my abilities for some time now," replies Elsa. "I should be fine for doing this. Besides, it could take us a few days to find a place to land, and I don't want to delay our mission."
For the next several minutes, the crew of the ship prepares the sled. Supplies are loaded onto the sled, including a stack of wood. While the crew was busy loading the sled, Kristoff was seeing to Sven and harnessing him up to the sled. Once everything was prepared; Anna and Elsa climb into the back seat of the sled, while Kristoff climbs into the driver's seat. Meanwhile, Mattias finds a perch on the back seat.
"Is everyone ready?" asks Elsa as she addresses Anna and Kristoff.
"Yes, I'm ready to go," replies Anna.
"Same here, and I am eager to get back on solid ground," adds Kristoff.
So Elsa stands up in the sled, and she grabs the back of the driver's seat to make sure she won't fall over. Then with her free hand, Elsa begins to cause ice to form on the deck of the ship. This ice soon forms a ramp over the railing of the ship and down onto the water. Once the ice went over the railing, Sven started to move the sled. As the sled moves, Elsa continues to create a solid ice surface on the water for the sled to move on. Soon enough the sled comes to a stop just right in front of the glacier.
"OK, we are here. So, how do we get to the top of all this ice?" asks Kristoff.
"It is a simple matter of a lift," says Elsa as she now stretches both of her hands out.
As she does this, several short stubby posts form on the top of the ice. Once these posts were formed, nothing else seems to happen.
"Elsa, is something else supposed to happen?" asks a puzzled Anna.
"They haven't reaches the bottom yet," replies Elsa.
"The bottom?" asks Anna.
However, before Anna could receive an answer, a loud crack is heard as the thick ice sheet that the sled was sitting on cracks. Then the ice sheet tilts a little.
"Elsa!" exclaims Anna as she becomes scared.
"Sorry," replies Elsa as the ice sheet soon levels off. "The ground below the water must be uneven. Things will go much smoother now."
Soon the ice sheet begins to lift into the air, and Anna and Kristoff are astonished by the rise of the sled. "You're creating legs under us!" exclaims Anna.
"Of course, how else did you expect me to lift us up to the top of the glacier," replies a smiling Elsa.
Soon enough, the sled and its passengers were lifted to the top of the glacier. Once there, Sven pulls the sled onto the glacier; and he continues on his way to the home of Tollak.
For the first day, things went smoothly. The air had a bit of a nip in it, but everyone was well equipped to handle the colder air. Kristoff was in the driver's seat with the reins in his hands. Meanwhile, Elsa and Anna sat behind Kristoff. Anna had a blanket wrapped around her. However, Elsa did not bother to cover herself up. She never felt the need too. As for Mattias, he alternated what he was doing. Sometimes he flew through the air. Other times he rested on the sled.
At the end of the day, it was decided that it would be best if everyone got some rest. So Elsa creates a simple ice structure around the sled. Meanwhile, Kristoff spreads a large tarp on a snow pile for Sven to lie on. It was the closes thing to a straw pile that Kristoff and Elsa could create. As for Anna and Kristoff, they made a place on the sled to lie down on. Items were taken off the sled so that they could have room to lie down. Meanwhile, Mattias found a spot between Anna and Kristoff to sleep. Mattias's special fire ring was brought along for this purpose. It was a snug fit for all three of them on the sled, but Anna and Kristoff were kept warm by Mattias's fire.
As for Elsa, she was able to create a comfortable bed for herself near the sled. She had the best accommodations of everyone. However, while her bed was soft, it was also cold. It was too cold for anyone else besides Elsa to be comfortable on. However, Elsa did use some blankets from the sled to wrap herself in, when she fell asleep.
Next morning after everyone has eaten; the sled was prepared to leave. Then Mattias melted a hole in the side of the ice structure, and the group was once again on its way. On this second day of travel, things were a little tougher. The air temperature was colder, and the wind blew a little stronger. Everyone still managed to tolerate these conditions, but it was less comfortable for Anna and Kristoff. Elsa was not bothered much by these conditions because of her magic. As for Mattias, his only problem was the wind. His own fire keeps him warm enough despite the cold temperature. Then at the end of the day, the sled stops once again to allow everyone to sleep.
On the third day of travel, it was extremely difficult. The temperature was extremely cold and the wind howled. Kristoff did the best that he could to withstand the cold. A scarf was pulled over his face, and Kristoff had a blanket pulled over his shoulders to try and keep the wind off. Meanwhile Anna and Elsa sit in the seat behind Kristoff. Anna has a blanket draped over her, and Elsa sits under the blanket with Anna.
"So how long do you think it will take us to get to this Tollak guy?" asks Anna as she addresses Elsa.
"The reports that I have read say it takes about a week to get to this volcanic mountain," replies Elsa. "However, with Sven and Kristoff taking us there, I hope that we will be able to get there sooner."
"I can't think of a better team to accomplish this goal," says Anna. "Both Kristoff and Sven have grown up working in frigid conditions. They know how to handle themselves, and Sven is the fastest in winter conditions."
"I know, and I am counting on them to not disappoint," replies Elsa.
"I'm sure they won't," replies Anna. "So Elsa, I was just thinking about what we might be doing when we reach Tollak's home, to face him."
"We, what do you mean we?" says Elsa. "I'm only allowing you to come along to help me get to Tollak. I don't even want you or Kristoff near him."
"Elsa, I am not going to let you face him alone," replies Anna. "I'm going to be by your side, whether you like it or not."
"Anna, don't you remember what happened with Goran," says a concerned Elsa. "He almost destroyed you, and he almost destroyed me."
"That's just it, Elsa," objects Anna. "You were barely able to survive against Goran's magic. Now we are actually going to confront someone who gave Goran his power. So it is likely that Tollak is going to be beyond anything that either one of us has ever experienced. So you need to have some kind of plan."
"I'm aware of this. So I wasn't planning on facing Tollak in an aggressive manner," replies Elsa. "I was first going to try to negotiate with Tollak. Maybe I can offer him something in exchange for releasing Kristian from the curse."
"The thing he is going to want is your magic, Elsa," says Anna. "That is something that you can't offer him. It would mean the end of your life. That is something I don't want to happen, and I know Kristian wouldn't want that to happen either."
I know that is what Tollak wants, but maybe there is something I could offer him instead," replies Elsa. "As I understand from Grand Pabbie, Tollak's condition limits his movements. Maybe I could offer him something from outside his world that he cannot obtain on his own."
"That seems like a plausible idea," responds Anna. "However, what Tollak might want may be difficult for us to obtain."
"That doesn't matter. It is my fault that Kristian has to be going through this, and I will do everything that I can to make it right," says Elsa.
"What?" replies a surprised Anna. "Elsa, you cannot keep blaming yourself for every mishap that happens to people around you. If it wasn't for you, Kristian would still be following Goran around; and Goran would have used Kristian to harm many in order to obtain his kingdom. So in truth, you gave Kristian a chance at a happy life. The only reason that Kristian is having this problem is because of his past association with Goran."
Elsa smiles a little after hearing this. "I knew there was another reason that I allowed you to come. Your ability to improve my spirits during difficult times," says Elsa.
"I've come to know you too well," replies Anna with a smile. "It is just a consequence of me being your sister."
Just then, a sudden gust of cold air shoots across the sled. The cold air causes everyone to react negatively to it. Anna pulls the blanket up around her tighter. While Elsa raises a hand up to block the blowing snow from her eyes. As for Kristoff, he raises a hand up in front of his face and he cries out in discomfort. His cry was loud enough for both Anna and Elsa to hear.
"Kristoff is not handling this weather very well," says Anna with some concern. "I never thought about how this weather would be affecting him, and here I am sitting very comfortably under this blanket."
"You're right. It is unfair for Kristoff to have to suffer through this weather," replies Elsa. "I should take over for him. So he can try and warm up a bit." So Elsa stands up and grabs the back of the driver's seat. Then she says, "Kristoff, why don't you let me drive for a while. The cold seems to be getting to you."
"I'll be all right," replies Kristoff. "I've gone through colder conditions, though I did end up with numb fingers and toes. Still I will be able to handle this."
"Nonsense," says Elsa as she climbs over the seat and sits down next to Kristoff. "Go in the back and try and warm yourself up. I can handle the reins for a while."
"But Elsa, you are a queen," objects Kristoff. "You have never driven a sled before. How would you know how to handle the reins?"
"I am more capable of doing this than you realize," replies Elsa. "I've ridden horses and know how to handle them. Besides, there really isn't much to do now. All I have to do is keep on the glacier, and I should be able to do that. Plus, if I do get into any trouble, I'm sure that Sven will be able to help me out. So why don't you hand over the reins and try and get some feeling back into your fingers."
Kristoff ponders what Elsa has said for a moment. Then he says, "Fine; but if you get into trouble, let me know. I'll be ready to take over if you need me." With that, Kristoff hands the reins over to Elsa; and he begins to climb into the back seat.
Elsa shifts herself over and positions herself to drive the sled. "Well Sven, it is you and me now," says Elsa. "Let's see if I can do something to help you out with this weather." So Elsa lifts a hand up, and she begins to create a fitted blanket around Sven to help keep him warm. Sven responds favorably to this added protection, and he gives a favorable snort for the gift of the blanket.
While Elsa begins to work on driving the sled, Kristoff was settling down next to Anna. "I'm glad that you took Elsa up on her offer to drive for a while," says Anna as Kristoff begins to get comfortable next to her. "You were looking kind of miserable up there."
This weather is miserable to be traveling in," says Kristoff as he wraps up in his own blanket. "It seems like the weather gets worse the closer we get to Tollak. It's like there is some kind of magic causing it."
"Well, instead of complaining about the weather condition, why don't you climb under this blanket with me to warm up?" offers Anna with a smile.
"Anna, I'm totally iced over. If I get under that blanket with you, I'll only make you as miserable as I am," replies Kristoff.
"It will be impossible for you to make me miserable," says Anna with a silly lint in her voice. "In fact, I bet I know how to get you to enjoy this weather real fast."
"Why would you think that I could enjoy this bitter cold, and why are you not suffering like I am from this weather?" asks Kristoff.
"Oh, I am nice and toasty under this blanket, and you can be too if you will join me," says Anna with a smile.
"This wind can cut right through any sort of protection. How can you be warm under there?" asks Kristoff.
"Because I am holding onto a fire," replies Anna with a lint in her voice, as she lifts the blanket up.
What Kristoff sees is Mattias curled up on Anna's lap. As the blanket was lifted, Mattias lifted up his head to see what was going on. "Mattias! Why didn't you tell me you had Mattias under there?" exclaims Kristoff as he tosses off his blanket and climbs under Anna's blanket. As Kristoff slides up against Anna, Mattias moves over so that he is lying on both Anna's and Kristoff's legs.
"I just did tell you about Mattias," giggles Anna. "So since you are here, why don't you cuddle up with me?"
"If you don't mind I think I will cuddle up with Mattias for a while," replies Kristoff with a smile.
"So what is this, you prefer Mattias over me," says Anna with a smile.
"Under normal circumstances, there is no one else I would rather be with than you. However, my cold and numb fingers would prefer to hang onto this hot bird," replies Kristoff with a smile.
"OK, I'll accept your answer; but if you start to hang out with Mattias more than me, we're through," giggles Anna as she snuggles up against Kristoff.
"If I start to spend more time with Mattias than you, then there really would be something wrong with me," replies Kristoff with a grin. "Right now, I just want to warn up."
"Sure, but maybe I can help you warm up too," says Anna with a smile.
For the rest of the day's journey, Anna and Kristoff sit together and enjoy each other's company. Meanwhile Elsa handles the reins of the sled. As the end of the day nears, a red glow can be seen in sky. In a little while later, a volcano can be seen. This volcano is the home of Tollak. Elsa tenses up a bit when she sees this volcano. This is because it means that she will soon have to confront Tollak.
However, the first one to say anything is Kristoff. "There it is," says Kristoff with a hint of regret. "That should be the home of Tollak."
"It looks rather ominous," adds Anna. "Why would Tollak choose to live in such a place? This is such a barren and desolate area."
"Who knows? Maybe he chose to come here to hide," replies Kristoff. "The way Elsa and Kristian both had to hide who they were from others. You would have to admit, this is a very safe place if you didn't want to be hunted down by those that feared the type of magic that Tollak possesses."
"Yes, perhaps that is it," responds Anna. "Then Anna shifts herself around so that she can stand up and talk with Elsa. "Elsa, so how much farther do you think we should go today?" asks Anna. "We should rest before we try and negotiate with Tollak."
"I would prefer to get to Tollak as soon as possible, but I think I should trust your judgement on this," replies Elsa. "After what happened at sea, I may need to rely on you to provide me some sound reasoning."
So in a little while, the sled came to a stop in a slightly sheltered area. However, the volcano home of Tollak can be easily seen reaching into the sky. As like the previous two nights, Elsa creates a simple ice structure to provide shelter for everyone.
Once the evening preparations were made and everyone fed, Elsa leaves Anna and Kristoff sitting by the fire. The fire was Mattias, and he was happily flaring away in the center of his special fire ring. Occasionally, Kristoff of Anna would hand Mattias a piece of firewood to keep him happy and the fire burning.
Meanwhile, Elsa heads outside to look at the volcano in the near distance. Elsa lets out a slight sigh, and then she says, "Tomorrow I will be seeing you Tollak, and I hope that I am ready to handle anything you might do. I need to do this for Kristian. I just hope that bringing Anna to see you is not going to be a mistake that I will regret."
Back inside Anna and Kristoff are busy talking with one another and staying warm. "It certainly is a blessing that we have made it this far," says Anna.
"Ya, we have been lucky; but I'm just glad that the ship ride is over," replies Kristoff. "Being out on a ship has never been a thrill for me, and I know Sven hopes that he will never be on a ship again."
Sven, who has been resting nearby, lets out a positive snort to Kristoff's statement.
Anna giggles a little. Then she says, "You two are terrible shipmates. If I didn't like the both of you, I wouldn't have bothered to spend most of the ship's voyage with you."
"I didn't think that I was that bad," replies Kristoff. "Anyway, I did enjoy your bedside manner. Maybe I should be sick more often."
"No, you were not that bad; but don't worry, you will definitely be getting sick again," responds a smiling Anna. "Don't forget we have a long ship ride home."
"Don't remind me," groans Kristoff. "Well at least this time we shouldn't have to be in a hurry. So Elsa doesn't need to use her magic to speed the ship along. Without the ship tossing as much, I might be able to enjoy the trip more."
"I don't think you are going to have that kind of luck," says Anna with a smile. "Elsa is going to want to get home quickly to see how Kristian is doing. Elsa may be willing to take a little extra time, but she still is going to hurry the journey home."
"Oh man, you are right," groans Kristoff. "That sister and that boyfriend of hers. Why do they both have to have special abilities? If only one of them didn't have their magic, we wouldn't have to be going through this mess."
That is not really fair to them," replies Anna, a little indignant with Kristoff. "If either one of them didn't have their magic, they would have never met in the first place. Even worse, Elsa might not even be with us today. Since there would have been no one to help Elsa defeat Goran."
"I'm sorry. I'm just not looking forward to another rough boat ride," apologies Kristoff. "I guess the more important person to blame here is Tollak. It is his fault that we have to be going through this ordeal, and that our lives have been interrupted."
"Yes, all our lives are on hold until we help Kristian," adds Anna. "Even our lives are being affected. Speaking of which, Kristian's affliction interrupted our engagement dance. We never got back to finish that dance."
"I'm sure we will be able to do the whole engagement thing over again if you want too," replies Kristoff. "I don't think anyone would object to a repeat performance."
"I sure everyone will be up for a party," says Anna with a slight smile. Then her smile fades as she says, "Though I am sorry about the delay that this is causing to our relationship."
"Delay, what do you mean by delay?" asks Kristoff. "I think our relationship is moving forward just fine. We are still together enjoying each other's company."
Yes we are, but this mission that we are on is going to delay everything concerning our wedding," replies Anna. "Because of this journey, we haven't even had an opportunity to make plans. It will take time to make all the appropriate arrangements, and summer is already half over. By the time things are ready, it could be winter."
Hey, a winter wedding would be all right by me," interjects Kristoff. "I'm sure Elsa could easily make a winter wedding magical."
"I wouldn't mind a winter wedding either, but a winter wedding would not be possible," replies Anna. "Maybe if I was the daughter to a duke and duchess, I could have a winter wedding; but my father was a king. So being second in line to the thrown of Arendelle means that my wedding is an important affair. Important dignitaries will want to attend. So the earliest that we could have our wedding would be in the springtime. For that, I regret having to disappoint you."
"So, what does that mean?" asks Kristoff. "You want to call off our engagement."
"What!" exclaims a surprised Anna. "No, I didn't mean that! I still want to marry you! It's just that I want to do things right by you, and so far I haven't."
Kristoff begins to laugh as Anna looks at him in total disbelief. "Anna, it wouldn't matter to me if we had to wait ten years before we are married," says Kristoff with a smile. "I already have the most important thing that I want, your love. All our marriage will do is to confirm that love, but I don't need that to know that you love me. As long as I know that I have your love, I will be content on waiting."
Anna smiles brightly as she moves towards Kristoff, and she gives him a hug and kiss. "You will always have my love," replies Anna with a smile. "I will promise you that."
"And hey, don't worry," says Kristoff. "Our lives will turn back to normal once our journey is over. Well, at least as normal as our lives can be."
"Yes, it will get back to normal; but the most dangerous part of our journey isn't here yet," says Anna with some concern. "Tomorrow we will have to face Tollak, and I am worried that we will not be able to convince him to release Kristian from the curse. If that is the case, I'm concerned for Elsa's safety. Elsa will not simply walk away from Tollak if she fails to convince him. I'm afraid of what will happen if Elsa has to fight Tollak."
"It is not going to be easy," replies Kristoff. "Hopefully, we will have some element of surprise on our side. Then maybe Elsa can catch him by surprise. Even then, we should prepare ourselves to try and make a quick exit."
"I think that would be a wise move," says Anna. "I just hope Elsa will be able to escape from Tollak's presence."
"So where is Elsa, we should talk this over with her before we head off to sleep," replies Kristoff. "Or at the very least, head to bed early so that we are well rested for tomorrow's encounter."
"I think Elsa has gone outside. I'll go and get her so we can get things straighten out," says Anna as she gets up to go and retrieve her sister.
