As Anna steps out of the structure, she stops to scan the area for Elsa. In a moment, her eyes fall upon her sister. Elsa is standing nearby on a short hill. She is standing there looking at the volcano where Tollak is living.
"Elsa!" shouts Anna as she begins to walk towards her sister. However, Elsa does not respond to Anna's call. "Hey Elsa, can you hear me?" calls Anna again as she nears. Yet, Elsa still does not respond. Anna senses something is wrong with Elsa, and she is becoming concerned.
Finally, Anna is almost right up alongside Elsa. "Elsa, are you all right?" asks a concerned Anna.
"I'm fine," replies Elsa with no emotion and without turning towards Anna.
This unfeeling response from Elsa really begins to worry Anna. So Anna moves in front of Elsa to look into her face. As Anna looks back at Elsa, she is aghast at what she sees. Elsa's appearance had changed. What Anna finds is that almost half of Elsa's hair had changed color. Instead of Elsa's usual white hair, almost half her head was covered by a dark blue to almost black hair.
Along with Elsa's hair, Elsa's face was also beginning to change color. Almost half of her face had changed to a light blue. There are also, what best could be described as, light blue frost lines extending to the other side of her face. Elsa was changing and Anna could see this.
"Elsa, what have you been doing?!" exclaims a worried Anna. "I thought you were going to take it easy with your magic powers!"
"I haven't used my magic," says Elsa with no emotion, as she continues to look at the volcano in the distance. "Tollak has been the only thing on my mind, and I will make him submit to my will."
"But Elsa, your magic must have been active," replies Anna. "And its effect on you is more severe that last time. Please Elsa, I care about you; and I don't want to lose the only family member that I have left. You need, for your sake and mine, to come inside and warm up next to the fire."
As Anna was talking, she had placed her hands onto Elsa's arm to try and move her towards the small ice structure. However, Elsa resists Anna's effort. Then Elsa turns and glares at Anna. This almost menacing look from Elsa startles Anna, and Anna takes a step back from her sister.
"I have not been affected by my magic, and your emotional wellbeing is of no concern to me," coldly says Elsa as she raises a hand into the air. "The only thing that matters is this." With that, Elsa generates a swirling ball of cold air and snow. This ball literally crackles in the air with surging power. "And it also matters what I am going to do with this power."
As this ball crackles in the air, Anna takes a few more steps back out of fear. Finally Anna stops as tears begin to well up in her eyes. However, Anna has decided to change tactics. So her resolve strengthens as Anna becomes determined to persuade Elsa to do as she wishes.
"So you don't care about me anymore, fine; but do you still care about ruling Arendelle as queen?" harshly asks Anna.
"I am the Queen of Arendelle, and no one can change that," replies Elsa coldly.
"Then you will be the queen of nothing!" exclaims Anna. "A queen takes care of her subjects, and if she doesn't then she won't have any subjects to rule over! Elsa, I am one of your subjects; and you are totally disregarding my needs!"
"I will never be able to meet this emotional need of yours. It is always more than what I am able to deliver," replies Elsa.
"You don't have to meet my needs to be a good queen, but you need to at least try," says Anna. "Then what about the promises that you have made? Are you willing to start going back on your word to people?"
"I have always been loyal to my word. So what makes you think that I would go back on my word?" asks Elsa with a cold harshness.
"You have forgotten that you are not alone in this. Kristoff and I are both here to help you," replies Anna. "And what about relying on my judgement? Are you going to stop trusting in my advice? Finally there is your own emotional state. I know you have already lost all feelings for me, but have you forgotten how you use to feel about me? All this makes me wonder if your word is worth anything anymore, even your promises that you have made to me."
"So what is it that you want from me then?" asks Elsa as her face takes on a totally blank look.
"All that I want now is for you to come inside and sit by the fire with me," replies Anna.
"That is a pointless act," replies Elsa. "Nothing will be gained by my presence near the fire."
"No harm will be done either," counters Anna. "So why would you ignore such a simple request to perform?"
Elsa stands there for a moment with a blank look on her face. Finally Elsa says, "Very well, I shall submit myself to your pointless request." With that, Elsa turns and begins to walk towards the small ice structure.
As Elsa walks away, Anna lets out a deep and slow breath. The intensity of this conversation with Elsa almost was too much for Anna. Anna needed to release some of the tension before she has to deal with Elsa inside.
In a short while, Elsa and Anna enter the small ice structure. After they enter, Anna moves over to the fire and offers Elsa a place to sit. "Here you go, Elsa. You can sit yourself down here," says Anna.
Elsa moves over to this spot and sits down in front of the fire. As this was happening, Kristoff watches Elsa with an astonished look on his face. After Elsa was seated, Kristoff asks, "Elsa, are you all right?"
"I'm fine," replies Elsa with no emotion.
"If you say so," replies Kristoff. "But you certainly don't look that entirely fine to me."
"Both you and Anna are making something out of nothing," says Elsa as the tone of her voice seems to get darker. "Listening to your futile comments is nothing but a waste of energy."
"You don't have to listen to us, Elsa," interrupts Anna. "However, your presence by the fire is very much desired. If you want to keep your word to me, just do this little thing."
"I shall remain here for the time being, but only until something more deserving of my time arises," replies Elsa coldly.
As this conversation was going on, Mattias was listening in. Mattias was actual part of the fire that everyone was sitting around. As people were talking, Mattias had solidified his form. Then he hopped up next to Elsa. Once Elsa had finished talking, Mattias lets out a squawk. However, Elsa does not respond to the firebird. The next thing that Mattias does is to nudge his beak against Elsa's arm. Still Elsa does not react to the firebird.
"Elsa, I think Mattias wants your attention," says Anna calmly and cautiously.
"There is no reason for me to give it to him," replies Elsa coldly. "Besides, what can I possibly give a creature of fire?"
After this comment from Elsa, Mattias goes and bits Elsa on the arm aggressively. This causes Elsa to jerk her arm up due to the pain. Other than the jerk of her arm, there is no other response or movement from Elsa.
"Hey!" exclaims Anna as she sees Mattias bit Elsa. She starts to make a move towards Elsa and Mattias, but Kristoff grabs onto Anna and pulls her back down.
"Wait a second, Anna," says Kristoff. "I think Mattias might have a better understanding of Elsa than we do right now. Let him just do his thing."
With Elsa's arm temporarily raised, Mattias scoots himself over until his body is right against Elsa's side. So when Elsa brings her arm back down, her arm goes across the top of Mattias. For a few moments, the two of them sit like this. Mattias looks up at Elsa, but Elsa continues to stare straight ahead. As Mattias looks up at Elsa, his body begins to flare up. The flames crawl up Elsa's side until the flames flare above the edge of Elsa's shoulder.
As this was happening, Anna turns towards Kristoff with concern on her face. Kristoff looks back at her with the same concern. "Just give it a little more time," says Kristoff. "Elsa can handle a little bit of fire."
After a few moments of blazing like this, Mattias then reaches his beak onto Elsa's lap. Elsa has her other hand on her lap and Mattias begins to nudge this hand with his beak. Mattias does this for several seconds. As Mattias continues to nudge Elsa's hand, a blue aura begins to form around Elsa. With the formation of this aura, the blue color of Elsa's hair and skin begin to fade away.
Anna starts to become excited as she sees the normal color come back to Elsa's face and hair. Out of her excitement, Anna reaches out and takes a hold of Kristoff's hand. She then looks over to Kristoff and quietly says, "Kristoff!"
"I know. I know. It is working," quietly replies Kristoff.
Once all of Elsa's color returns to normal, the blue aura flashes up and away from Elsa. This aura quickly leaves the structure by passing easily through the wall. Once the aura left her, Elsa lifts the hand on her lap and begins to pet the head of Mattias.
"Poor Mattias," says Elsa. "You must be missing Kristian if you are looking for affection from me."
"Elsa!" exclaims Anna as she gets up and rushes over to Elsa's side. Once there, Anna wraps her arms around her sister.
"Anna! What?" exclaims Elsa as she is surprised by Anna's dramatic behavior. "Are you all right?" asks Elsa as she sees a few tears on Anna's face.
"Am I all right?! I'm just thankful that you're all right!" exclaims Anna. "Elsa, your magic powers were affecting you again; and this time your condition was much more severe."
"That can't be possible," replies Elsa. "After creating this building for us, I haven't even used my magic."
"You must have done something. How else would you have been affected by such magical energy?" says Anna.
"I swear Anna. I have not used my powers. I have no idea how I was being affected," replies Elsa.
"It's this weather!" exclaims Kristoff as he interrupts the conversation. With Kristoff's interruption, Anna and Elsa turn to look at him. "Anna, remember when I said that this weather was not natural. I even suggested that it was being created by magic. Well if this weather is being created by magic, that magic might be present in the very air."
"Is that possible?" questions Anna. "Why would there even be cold magic in this area?"
"Tollak needs that type of magic for some reason," replies Elsa. "It is why he is trying to force Kristian to fight me. Since Tollak wants my magic as well. So it is possible that this area could have cold magical energy in the air."
"If that is the case, then you are likely being affected by this magical energy," says Anna. "Just like Kristian is being affected by the curse, you are being affected by this cold magic in the air."
"If I am being affected by this energy, how am I going to protect myself from it?" asks a concerned Elsa.
"We can protect you by using the very thing that has been able to bring you back from your affected state, Mattias," replies Anna. "His magic is the opposite of that cold energy, and Mattias's magic should be able to shield you from this external magic."
"Perhaps, but what about you and Kristoff? Both of you need his heat to keep warm as well. I can't just monopolize Mattias's warmth all to myself," says Elsa.
"Mattias gives off more heat than you think," replies Kristoff. "Besides, we are almost to our destination. I can keep myself warm enough until then."
"Elsa, Kristoff and I will be fine," adds Anna. "My only concern is to make sure that you will be safe. We will figure out how to handle tomorrow, but tonight I want you to sleep next to Mattias."
"No, I won't do that," replies Elsa. "You and Kristoff need him for warmth tonight. I shall be fine until morning."
"Don't worry, Elsa," says Kristoff. "We brought enough firewood along where I can have a separate fire burning. You can take my sleeping place on the sled tonight. I can bed down with Sven next to a fire. We have slept together before."
"I can vouch for that," replies Anna with a smile. "I've seen him do it."
"You don't have to vouch for it, Anna," says Elsa with a smile. "His aroma can more than vouch for his claim."
"Hey!" exclaims Kristoff in disapproval. "I don't smell that bad."
In response, both Anna and Elsa begin to laugh at Kristoff's reaction. Then Elsa says, "Very well, if you believe you can be warm enough sleeping with Sven, then I shall accept the sleeping arrangements."
For the rest of the evening, everyone sat around the camp fire. They discussed the day's events and what will be occurring tomorrow. As for Mattias, he decided to rest on Elsa's lap; and Elsa gently strokes the bird as she talks with Kristoff and Anna. Eventually, everyone settles down for a restful sleep.
