While Elsa and Tollak begin their battle, Kristoff is doing his best to run through the tunnel with Anna on his shoulder.
"Kristoff, let me down!" exclaims Anna. "We need to go back!"
"Sorry Anna, but the safest place for us will be outside next to Sven," replies Kristoff. "We can wait for Elsa there. We might need to make a quick exit when she shows up."
As Kristoff was talking, Anna notices the fire beasts that Tollak had sent after them. "Kristoff, maybe you should be picking up the pace then," says a worried Anna.
"First you wanted to go back. Now you want to go outside. What changed you mind?" says Kristoff.
"Simply the fact that we are being chased by a group of fire creatures!" exclaims Anna.
Kristoff turns to look and he sees the beasts behind them. "Oh man!" exclaims Kristoff as he tries to quicken his pace.
"Hurry!" exclaims Anna as the beasts get closer.
"This isn't exactly easy!" exclaims Kristoff. "You're not exactly a light weight!"
"Are you calling me fat!" replies Anna.
"Compared to an elephant, no," says Kristoff. "I was thinking of something more like a big sack of potatoes."
"Now you are calling my lumpy!" exclaims Anna in a worried huff.
Now Kristoff drops Anna onto her feet and grabs her hand. Kristoff pulls Anna along as they both run outside. "Well…, ya, I guess that I am; but at least all of your lumps are in the right places," replies Kristoff to Anna's comment.
Once outside, Anna and Kristoff quickly head over to where Sven and the sled are located. However, before they are able to get there, one of the three remaining fire beasts leaps at Anna and Kristoff. "Down!" exclaims Kristoff as he partly pulls Anna down to the ground. This causes the fire beast to sail over the top of the both of them. However, now their pathway is blocked by a fire beast.
"What do we do now?" exclaims a scared Anna.
"We try and not get burned!" exclaims Kristoff as he pulls his ice axe out.
Now Kristoff tries to keep the fire beast off of himself and Anna. The three beast circle Anna and Kristoff. Only when one of the beasts gets close would Kristoff swing the ice axe at that beast. Howevr, it doesn't take long before one of the beasts makes a lunge at Anna and Kristoff. Anna screams and Kristoff tries to block the attack with his ice axe. However, the next thing that either one of them knows is that the fire beast continues to go up into the air.
"What on earth?" says Kristoff as he briefly watches the beast soar into the air. This is because Kristoff still has two other creatures to worry about.
"It's Mattias!" exclaims Anna as she watches the firebird climb into the air with his catch. "And he is big!"
"It was a dang good thing that turkey decided to come along!" exclaims Kristoff as he keeps fending off the other two fire beasts. "We wouldn't have made it this far without him!"
In a moment, Mattias stops his climb, and he sets himself into a sharp dive with his struggling cargo. Mattias speed increases greatly; and at the last second, the fire bird pulls up sharply. As he does this, Mattias releases the fire beast with a fling. The creature roars as it quickly falls through the air. In an instant the beast crashes into the ice of the glacier. As it does, a huge plume of steam can be seen rising from the glacier, as the beast is vaporized by the melting ice.
Anna was able to witness this. Afterwards, she turns towards Kristoff. "Kristoff, we have to get onto the glacier!" exclaims Anna. The ice might help protect us!"
"Just a second, Anna!" exclaims Kristoff as he is busy with the fire beasts.
Soon one of the beast lunges, and Kristoff swings his ice axe and hits the beast squarely on the head. "Go!" exclaims Kristoff just before he delivers his strike on the fire beast. With this blow, the fire beast falls to the ground. Meanwhile Anna begins to run towards the ice of the glacier.
However, the other fire beast begins to move towards Anna. Fortunately, Kristoff was also moving. Kristoff was able to dive and trip up the fire beast using his ice axe. Then Kristoff was able to get up and strike the beast on the head before he starts to run after Anna. Afterwards, Kristoff follows Anna onto the ice of the glacier.
Anna and Kristoff both manage to get onto the ice before the two fire beast regain their senses and pursue them. Kristoff looks back and sees the two beasts close in on them. "They're catching up!" exclaims Kristoff as he looks back towards Anna.
Anna then turns to look at the creatures. Since Anna looked backwards while she was running, she trips and falls to the ground. "Anna!" cries out Kristoff as he quickly comes to Anna's aid.
However, since Kristoff had to stop to help Anna up, the fire beasts are able to get to the pair. Anna screams as the beasts leap at her and Kristoff. However, at the same instant, a fire comes streaking out of the sky. It is Mattias. The firebird strikes both beasts, and soon a battle between all three creatures ensues. As the creatures battle, a cloud of steam arises from the glacier.
"Kristoff, we have to do something to help Mattias!" exclaims Anna.
"I know but how do we fight against a creature made of fire?" replies Kristoff.
"You take care of a fire by putting it out with water!" exclaims Anna.
"Or the next best thing, ice!" exclaims Kristoff as he looks down towards the ground. Kristoff then takes his ice axe and pries a long shard of ice out of the glacier. "Anna, you need to get to safety. While I try and help Mattias."
"You're not the only one who can help," replies Anna as she throws a snowball into the mist of steam.
"Anna!" exclaims Kristoff as he watches the snowball disappear into the steam.
Suddenly a roar is heard and one of the fire beasts emerges from the steam. Anna then throws a second snowball before she starts to run. "Help Mattias, I'll distract this one!" shouts Anna as she runs towards Sven. The fire beast then chases after her.
Kristoff starts to move in the direction that the fire beast took, but he stops after a step or two. Then he turns back towards the steam cloud. "Right, need to do this fast; before Anna gets into too much trouble," says Kristoff to himself. With that, Kristoff moves into the steam cloud.
It doesn't take Kristoff long before he is at the edge of a large hole in the ice. What Kristoff is able to see is Tollak's fire beast about to its shoulder in the hole. Underneath this beast is Mattias, rapidly shrinking in size. "OK, Kristoff just act fast and get it over with," says Kristoff to himself.
With that, Kristoff leaps off the edge of the hole with the long ice shard in his hands. Kristoff yells as he sails through the air. Then with the ice shard, he drives the point deep inside the beast. Kristoff tries to keep from touching the side of the beast himself, but he still hits it before falling to the bottom of the hole. Kristoff's clothing was smoking as he fell to the bottom.
The beast itself roars out of pain as it rears upwards. Meanwhile, Kristoff quickly scrambles away and starts to climb out of the hole. Due to Kristoff's actions the beast had shrunk to about half of its original size.
While Kristoff was trying to deal with one of the fire beast, Anna was running away from the other beast. Anna was trying to get to Sven and the sled. While running, Anna calls out to the reindeer. "Sven, I need you!"
In response, Sven comes running. In no time, Sven is able to come alongside of Anna with the sled. Then Sven slows down to allow Anna the chance to jump aboard the moving sled. Once Anna was on board, Sven increases his speed. However, the fire beast is able to stay right behind the sled.
"Come on Sven, we just need to keep this thing preoccupied long enough for Kristoff and Mattias to take care of the other one!" exclaims Anna to the reindeer.
Sven does his best to stay ahead of the fire beast. Quick turns by the reindeer would often leave the fire beast sliding on the ice. This would give Sven and Anna a bit of space before the fire beast would gain again.
While Anna and Sven were busy with their problem, Kristoff watches the fire beast that he is dealing with climb out of a hole in the ice. This hole was created by the battle of three ice creatures. One of these creatures was Mattias.
"I see that you don't like to play on the ice," says Kristoff as he watches the beast pull itself out of the hole. "That is too bad for you, for I am the Arendelle Ice Master; and I know how to handle myself on the ice." With that, Kristoff takes his ice axe and drives it into the ice beneath him.
It was after this motion that the fire beast begins to charge. As the creature nears, Kristoff uses the anchored ice axe to throw himself off to the side. Meanwhile, the fire beast tries to change directions, but it just ends up sliding across the ice. Steam rises from its feet as it tries to make the sharp turn.
After the fire beast passes, Kristoff quickly gets back to his ice axe. Kristoff then pulls his axe out, and he quickly does several more strikes into the ice around him. By now, the fire creature was once again charging at Kristoff. Kristoff notices this, and with one solid blow, Kristoff dives his ice axe at a sharp angle into the ice. This blow manages to pop free a flat piece of ice from the spot that Kristoff was working around.
By then, the fire beast was almost on top of Kristoff. Fortunately, as Kristoff was working on obtaining his flat piece of ice, a second creature emerges from the hole in the ice. It was Mattias. The battle on the ice had taken a toll on the firebird. So Mattias was less than his normal size, and his flame was flaring erratically. However, the firebird still had some fight in him.
So as Kristoff tries to get out of the way of the fire beast, Mattias flies in and harasses the larger fire beast. Mattias does this by getting into the beasts face. This action causes the fire beast to stumble a bit as it now tries to bat at the annoying firebird.
This action by Mattias allows Kristoff to run several yards away. Once Kristoff gets to a suitable distance, he stops and quickly cuts a narrow channel into the ice. Then taking the flat piece of ice that he was carrying, Kristoff wedges the edge of the ice into the channel. Doing this causes the ice to stand on end.
Once Kristoff was done, he turns and calls out to Mattias. "Mattias, clear off!" shouts Kristoff. With this command, Mattias departs from annoying the fire beast. Then Kristoff shouts, "Hey, flaming nuisance, I'm over here!"
The fire beast hears Kristoff, and it turns towards him. It roars as the beast begins to charge at Kristoff. "Come on! Bring it!" shouts Kristoff as he aggressively stands with his ice axe at the ready.
As the beast nears, Kristoff begins to charge the fire creature. Then with only a few yards between the two, Kristoff leaps forward with a yell. In response, the fire beast leaps forward as well. However, the next thing that Kristoff does is to fall onto his back. This move surprises the beast. Still, it tries to respond as the fire beast begins to bring its front feet down on top of Kristoff.
However as Kristoff slides underneath the fire beast, he uses his ice axe to take the legs out from underneath the beast. This action causes the fire beast to fall onto its belly. Afterwards, the forward momentum of the creature causes the beast to slide on the ice of the glacier. A trail of steam and melted ice is left behind the beast as it slides uncontrollably.
The fire beast was already reduced in size, and this contact with the ice causes it to shrink some more. However, this was not the worst that the fire beast would experience. The direction of the beasts slide is taking it straight towards the flat piece of ice that Kristoff had wedged into the glacier. Soon enough the fire beast strikes the flat piece of ice that is standing up on its edge. Another burst of steam is seen as the fire beast is split in two. Then the two halves of the creature vaporize into a cloud of smoke.
As this was happening, Kristoff was lying on his side as he watched the demise of the fire beast. Once the smoke clouds rose into the air, Kristoff sits up and kissed his ice axe. "I'm glad that I never became a baker," says Kristoff to himself. Then just as Kristoff was beginning to push himself up off the ice, Mattias flies in. "Whoa!" exclaims Kristoff as he quickly sits himself down again. Kristoff also raises the head of his ice axe into the air.
Mattias, then with little effort, lands on the head of Kristoff's ice axe. The firebird then lets out a scraggily squawk. Mattias was also flaming a bit erratically. "You startled me, Mattias. You need to be a little more careful when you are flaring like this," says Kristoff. Mattias replies to this with another scraggily squawk.
"It looks like you got roughed up a bit. Here, you can have my glove. I already lost the other one to Tollak," says Kristoff as he hands his glove over to the firebird.
Mattias accepts the glove and consumes it in flames. Afterwards, Mattias's fire stabilizes. Then the firebird lets out a solid screech. However, Mattias was still a bit smaller than normal. The glove was not enough to restore Mattias to normal.
"You feeling better now?" asks Kristoff. In response, Mattias flaps his wings and ruffles his feathers. "Good, then go help Anna. We've got one more creature to get rid of."
With that, Mattias takes to the air and heads in the direction of Anna. It doesn't take long for Mattias to locate the sled. Then it takes only a few moments for the firebird to fly to the sled. Once there, Mattias is able to land on the back rest of the drives seat. It took some precision flying to do this. This is because Sven and Anna were constantly changing the direction of the sled to keep ahead of the fire beast. Before landing Mattias lets out a screech.
"Mattias, you're here!" says Anna excitedly. "And you shrunk! If you are here that means the other beast is gone. Now we just need to find a way to take care of this flaming monster. Sven, head back to Kristoff! Maybe he will have a plan to deal with it."
With this command, Sven turns sharply to head back in the direction of Kristoff. As for Mattias, he moves to the back of the sled to his fire ring. Anna is puzzled by this action of Mattias. "Mattias, what are you doing?" asks a confused Anna as she looks into the back of the sled.
What Anna sees is Mattias start to pull pieces of firewood into the center of his fire ring. "Of course!" exclaims Anna as she crawls into the back. The she starts to help Mattias by placing the larger pieces of firewood into the fire ring. It doesn't take long before a sizable fire is burning on the back of the sled.
As the fire grows in size, Mattias begins to absorb the flames. It only takes a minute or so, but soon Mattias is once again big. When standing up right, Mattias is now about four feet in height. The firebird is still too small to take on the fire beast directly, but his new size made Mattias much more capable of helping Anna and Kristoff.
Once Mattias's new size stabilizes, the firebird once again takes to the air. The first thing that Mattias does is to harass the fire beast to slow its chase of the sled. This allows Anna and Sven to create some distance as the sled moves towards Kristoff. Eventually, Mattias has to veer off of the beast to keep from being hurt. After veering off, Mattias then takes up position several feet over the top of the sled.
While this was going on, Anna had crawled back into the driver's seat once again. After getting herself situated, Anna hears a screech coming from Mattias. Anna looks up at the firebird and asks, "Mattias, what is it?"
In response, Mattias looks down at Anna; and then he looks straight ahead. Anna then looks forward and carefully stands up to get a better view. What Anna sees is Kristoff frantically waving at her and Sven. "What's he trying to say?" asks a concerned Anna. Then Anna sees Kristoff point to a spot on the ice. Then Kristoff tries to wave Anna and Sven off. Anna looks at the spot in the ice and tries to figure out what Kristoff is trying to say. Finally Anna is able to discern what Kristoff was trying to indicate.
"There is a hole in the glacier, a big hole!" exclaims Anna. Then Anna hears the roar of the fire beast chasing the sled. She looks back at the closing beast and wonders how she is going to handle this fire menace. Then an idea comes to Anna. "Sven head straight at that hole!" exclaims Anna. "If we do this right, we will get rid of this infernal beast!"
Sven snorts in agreement as he starts to make a beeline for the hole. As for Mattias, he lets out a screech before he changes his location. The firebird changes his flight so that he is directly behind the sled and close to the ground. Once there, Mattias allows his flame to surge. This surge of flame does two things. First, it partly obscures the sight of the sled from the fire beast. Second, the heat from Mattias's fire partly melts the ice of the glacier.
While Mattias was doing this, Sven continues to bear down on the hole in the glacier. It doesn't take Sven long before he is almost to the hole. In an instant, the reindeer and the sled pass Kristoff. Kristoff stands there, waving frantically as they pass. "Sven, Anna! No, turn away!" shouts Kristoff out of fear of what might happen.
Then at the last possible moment, Anna shouts as she pulls hard on the reins, "Sven, now!" Sven then turns sharply as he tries to turn the fast moving sled. For a moment, the sled continues to pull everyone towards the hole. Yet, Sven manages to regain the momentum and pull the sled away from the edge.
While Sven was trying to maneuver the sled, Mattias flies straight at the hole. Just as the firebird gets to the center of the hole, Mattias soars skyward. This draws the attention of the fire beast towards Mattias for a moment. So it is too late for the beast to react when its attention is once again down to the ground.
The fire beast tries to stop or turn its direction; but because of Mattias, the ice is slippery. As anyone with experience with ice knows, ice is the slipperiest when it is close to the melting point. Mattias had melted the surface of the glacier, and this condition made it impossible for the fire beast to maneuver on the ice. In the end, the fire beast crashes into the hole. This sudden impact causes a massive plum of steam to erupt out of the hole as the fire beast is extinguished in the ice.
While the plum of steam rises into the air, Sven comes to a stop near Kristoff. As the sled comes to a stop, Kristoff exclaims, "Anna, are you crazy? You could have gotten yourself into a lot of trouble, if Sven didn't make that turn."
"Yes, but he did make it," replies a smiling Anna. "I knew that I could count on Sven to get me through."
Just then Mattias comes down and lands near the sled. As he does, the firebird lets out a screech. Everybody looks over towards Mattias. Then Anna asks, "Is there something you want to tell us Mattias?"
Mattias then looks up to the sky, in the direction of the volcano. Then Mattias looks back down at Anna and screeches again. After this, Anna and Kristoff both look up into the sky to see what it is that Mattias was trying to tell them. What they see are the blue energy spheres around the volcano. These spheres were moving towards the mouth of the volcano, and they were entering the mountain.
"No," quietly says Anna out of fear.
"That is not a good sign," adds Kristoff. "All these magical energies are being drawn in, but what is drawing them inside the mountain?"
"I pray that it is not Elsa," replies Anna. "Just absorbing a little bit of that magic last night changed Elsa. If she absorbs only a few of these spheres, the change could be unthinkable. We need to go to her!" With this, Anna quickly heads off to the entrance to the volcano.
"Wait up, Anna!" shouts Kristoff as he quickly follows Anna.
Mattias also takes to the air. However, instead of following Anna and Kristoff, Mattias heads up to the mouth of the volcano. Once up there, Mattias begins to release his excess energy as he creates a fire barrier over the mouth of the volcano. This barrier nearly stops the magical energy from entering the volcano through its mouth.
(An apology. This may be the last chapter that I can post for some time. My occupation is demanding my time.)
