Please read both author's notes.
Okay this is the messed up couples chapter. It may seem out of place and you may not like it. It is definitely not what you guys probably expected. I was actually seriously considering not posting this until the end as a part of a little unused chapters in this story, but I did say I was writing this chapter and I hope you at least enjoy this. I promise that the pace is going to start picking back up after this.
This is, I guess you can say, the calm before the storm. I'm sorry if I'm not living up to the standards of my previous chapters, but I hope you guys enjoy this. And I will get back to normal. Things will start becoming action packed soon! And thank you for your suggestions and advice. I will post a new chapter soon.
If you don't like this chapter, I will tell you the irrelevance will be a one time deal. I guess just think of it as a bridge from one point in my story to another. Out of all my chapters, this is the one I am the most self-conscious about.
Disclaimer, I do not own Percy Jackson all rights belong to Rick Riordan
Leo almost forgot how much fun it was to be alone in the control room. It was a great place to think. He sighed happily as he continued to navigate the boat through the ocean. The teen couldn't really remember where they were going or why they were going there, but he sure did appreciate the alone time.
His brown eyes closed, savoring the feeling of the sun.
"Hey Leo." Hazel's voice chimed behind him.
He tried not to sound annoyed, "Yeah."
When he turned to face her, the younger teen was wearing a jacket with a weird symbol embroidered on the shoulder. Leo squinted and tried to make it out, but Hazel shed the jacket as if she were too warm to wear it. She walked up to him and smiled softly.
"You know she's looking for you." Hazel reminded him.
She? he wondered. Who was she?
"Hazel." A familiar voice called into the room. Jason came waltzing in with his usual smile. "Oh you have my jacket still."
The teen bowed her head, "Sorry I was cold and I figured you wouldn't mind."
To Leo's surprise, instead of grabbing the jacket Jason's arm wrapped around Hazel's waist. She didn't protest at all and brought her arms around his neck. A giggle escaped her as she nuzzled her face into Jason's shirt. The son of Hephaestus fought the urge to smack his head against the wall. He might have even felt slightly jealous that Jason was holding her in such a way.
He was equally ticked that he seemed to be cheating on Piper.
"Uh..." Leo began lamely as he scratched his head. "What about Frank?"
The couple blinked at him innocently, "What about him?"
Leo blushed even more. He and the big guy might not get along, but he didn't think he could keep Hazel cheating on him a secrete. He quickly excused himself from the room and searched for Frank. Being the bearer of bad news was not the most pleasant job. Especially when the guy could easily turn into a swarm of bees and sting you to death.
The ship seemed different to Leo somehow. The walls seemed higher than he remembered. Why did he feel like he was being followed? Annabeth's familiar laughter reached his ears, he let his eyes wonder to her cabin door. Maybe she'd know where Frank was.
"Really?" Her voice questioned. "I thought I showed you how to get out of these already."
"Well I guess I forgot." That was Frank!
Leo hurried his pace to the bedroom. Without addressing himself, the demigod barged in. He really wished that he had knocked first. Frank had his large arms around Annabeth, the Chinese hand-cuffs around his fingers kept them locked in their circular position. A smile was on the daughter of Athena's face as she worked to separate his fingers.
"You know you can always turn into an iguana again. Iguana boy." she teased. They didn't even realize they were being watched.
"I like it when you help me." Frank whispered in her ear. Without looking around Annabeth slapped him on the shoulder.
"Iguana boy."
This was all wrong. Completely and totally wrong! Leo didn't understand what was happening. He resisted the urge to pull his hair out and cleared his throat. The two looked up at him.
"Oh hey Leo." Frank chirped.
"What about Percy?" Leo demanded as he ignored Frank. "You've been worried sick."
Leo couldn't exactly remember what had happen to the son of Poseidon, but he knew it was nothing good.
"He's getting married." Annabeth told him with a roll of her eyes. "But why would I be worried about him, she's a nice girl."
The younger demigod wanted to shout some pretty intense things at Annabeth in Spanish. She had spent the last few days driving them crazy about finding Percy. Percy this, and Percy that. It was almost sickening to think she went from being on one plane of existence to another. Leo tried to protest when a pair of arms wrapped around his abdomen.
"Why so serious, Repair boy?" The Latino blushed. Without second thought he immediately grabbed the girl's tan arms and pried them away.
"Pipe, I like you, but not like that." He tried to argue. Leo was sure that it was wrong for Piper to be acting that way towards him.
She simply laughed and wrapped her arms around his neck. Their noses nearly touched, "Come one Repair boy, you know Cupid says we should be together."
Leo tried to duck out of her hold but she held him tightly. The faint sent of her perfume reached her noes and lulled him in like a bee to honey. He shook his head. He shouldn't be having these thoughts. Especially about Piper. With a start he realized that Cupid, the wannabe god of love, was mentioned.
"You said Cupid?" He demanded. Leo struggled to remember what they had done to him. "Didn't, didn't you get rid of the guy?"
Piper gave a dismissive wave of her hand before ensnaring her arm around his neck again, "My charm speak didn't work remember. A good thing too because now we're all happy. Especially Percy and Calypso."
Leo scowled. If he remembered correctly, the son of Poseidon was head over heels in love with the daughter of Athena, not Calypso. It was strange for him to try and paw his mind for memories that were seemingly laying dormant. With a groan he gave up. Piper gave him a cheeky smile, but her eyes seemed to no longer bubble with colors like they normally did. She didn't give him a chance to try and figure it out as she tried to capture his lips with hers.
"Wo, wo, wo Beauty queen." He protested and with surprise strength he pulled out of her arms. "I need some air."
The son of Hephaestus took off for the deck. Despite the sun above his head, Leo felt dead cold. He ran up to the mast and began punching it, trying to clear his head. Imminently he pulled his fist away and studied the knuckles. There was blood, but he didn't feel any pain.
He was too confused to.
"Hey what's wrong Leo?" A familiar voice asked.
He whorled around to see Calypso. His heart began beating rapidly like it did every time he saw her. Leo couldn't be in love her. With her beautifully styled hair and a long, elegant white dress that complemented her lightly sun kissed skin. He ached for her affection, despite his insistence that he did not.
But she wasn't alone.
Next to her stood Percy Jackson. He wore a nice suite and his face held a nearly blank expression. What surprised Leo the most were his eyes. Red was definitely not their natural color. Leo could see faint strings tied to the other demigod's wrist, elbows, knees, and legs. It looked as if the son of Poseidon was a life sized puppet.
"Leo?" Calypso spoke again.
He looked at her and noticed that she too was tied in the same strings as Percy. How could they not notice? Leo sent a glance to Percy who still wore a blank expression. Well, how could Calypso not know?
"She's blinded by her own desire." Gaea's voice spoke in his mind. "So much so that she'll never see where this path will lead."
Leo's fist clenched at his side. He let his eyes cast up to the sea nymph, "She's strong, smart, and beautiful. She'll fight you! She'll see right through your ruse."
Gaea appeared next to him, she let her fingers trail along his shoulders, "How about you forget her? I can make it so you can be with Piper. Jason will have Hazel, and Frank with Annabeth. Just like it is in this dream."
"I knew something was up." Leo growled and pulled away from her. He hated how stupid he could be at times.
"Say the word and I'll send Cupid to make this dream a reality." Gaea cooed. "Think about it Leo, everyone will be happy this way."
"Except them." Leo pointed to Percy and Calypso. "And the others wont ever be truly happy being romantic with the wrong person."
Gaea smiled, "But you could be."
"Get lost you witch."
"Fine." Gaea scowled. "Be ignorant, but know this, you will never be able to save Calypso. She's made her choice and she now must live with it."
Calypso let out a shriek as the strings that held her turned into large chains. Her body hunched over as if she was straining under a great weight. The beautiful dress she wore was torn and a creamy brown. Sobs escaped her and bombarded his ears. Leo wanted to help her.
"And the son of Poseidon." Gaea continued as she shifted to be behind Percy. She put her hands together palms up and a bright golden light began forming in her hands. Percy began to fade away like dust and he began slipping into her hand. "Well, he belongs to me. He will be what ever I desire him to be. A warrior, a slave, whatever I want. Once he's under my control, I shall take over the world. Nothing will stop me. Especially not you!"
Percy finally crumbled away and into the golden light. Gaea's hand closed around the light as if confirming her possession over the demigod. Leo tried to lunge at her, but the ship rocked sideways and sent him flying to her left. He let out a scream as sailed over the deck railing and into darkness.
"You will always fail." Gaea whispered to him. "You will die unwanted and unloved."
"AHHH!" Leo screamed.
Argo II gave a sharp rock to the right and sent him flailing off of his bed. He groaned as he steadied himself on the floor with his hands. With a cough he reached up for the side of his bed and attempted to get onto his feet, but the boat gave another jerk and sent him flying in another direction. His head hit a wall, hard. Leo was getting very annoyed.
Whose steering Argo II? Why would someone take it off autopilot anyway?
Leo managed to get to his feet and looked out his room's port window as a large wave smashed into it. He felt sick, and it wasn't just because of the roughly rocking boat. Something was seriously wrong with the sea god. The fire starter didn't even bothering to get dressed as he stumbled out of his room in search of the others. He used the walls as a guide and pounded on the doors of the others as he passed wondering if one of them was awake.
"OH PLUTO!" He heard Frank curse. The teen came tumbling out of his room and into a wall. "WHAT IS GOING ON?"
"I'm not sure." Leo would have laughed at Frank's face plant, but he figured there were bigger things at hand. "We need to get to the control panel."
Together the two teens trudged forward to the control center of Argo II. He was sure he had set it to run smoothly on it's own, not steer them into hazardous waters. It was a relief when he finally reached the door that'd lead him to his desired location. The boat writhed again against the raging waves. Leo fell backwards into Frank.
"Woe, careful."
Leo clenched his teeth as he righted himself, "Well, duh!"
After finally arriving at the control room he could see that someone had indeed taken it off of autopilot and into manual. The only major problem was that no one was even attempting to sooth the out of control ship. The room was completely empty! Leo rushed to the remote and tried to take control of his abused ship. Despite his attempts the waves still fought against him.
"Do something!" Frank demanded frantically. The son of Hephaestus bit his lip trying to refrain from snapping at the other teen. The son of Mars walked to the giant window of the room. "Is that Annabeth on the deck?"
Leo also looked out of the window and felt his face blanch. "I hope not."
He watched helplessly as hundred foot wave began towering over Argo II. It rolled towards them with a furry like no other. Leo could tell at that moment that Poseidon must have been one of the scariest gods in existence. The wave continued to escalate taller and taller as it grew near.
"Oh gods help us. We're going to die."
Like I said I'm not sure how well this chapter turned out, I guess it does get better as it goes on. Gaea was trying to make a deal with Leo so she could get what she wants, but her plans to halt our fearless crew will not be stopped. Please read and review.
If the dream seems out of place or illogical I can tell you I do have dreams like that. I pretty much dream EVERY night. I can smell things, feel pain, and pretty much anything else that happens. It's pretty weird.
Quick tips to those of you who want to be writers and are experiencing a hard time getting what you want down.
1. Plan out how you want your story to go and then figure out how you want to get from one point to another.
2. When I have a hard time figuring out the tone I want for a chapter in a story I just listen to music to match the mood and it helps me to focus on the emotion.
Anyway if you didn't like this chapter be gentle and don't give up reading the story. Please.
