SORRY! I know it's been a while since I last updated! I have had a serious writer's block. I know how this story is going to end, I just am having a hard time getting there. I think I'm going to have a few chapters more before the story is done. Thank you guys for waiting. I will try to get the next chapter up sooner. And to those of you who have an account. What should I do when my 'Doc Manager' is full?
Disclaimer, I do not own Percy Jackson, all rights belong to Rick Riordan.
Annabeth felt blood running down the three slashes she had recieved on her shoulder from the Hellhound that had dragged her away from Percy yet again. She had killed it only to find that both Percy and Piper had gone missing from where she last saw them. She wanted to scream! They were so close yet she hadn't had more than a moment with her boyfriend. With a furious roar she stabbed a Draken in the throat and watched as it crumpled into dust before her.
Even with that one victory more monsters seemed to be surrounding her. The daughter of Athena was exhausted, it was a lot easier to fight all of these monsters with Percy as her wingman. She raised her blade again, preparing to slice another beast open, but before she could make the first strike a Gryphon came from out of nowhere and clasped its rough clawed feet onto her arms. It was bringing her up higher and higher into the air. The monsters below bellowed for their stolen prey.
"Let go of me!" She shouted.
Annabeth didn't know what the thing had planned for her, but she was sure she wouldn't like it. She kicked out desperately, hoping whatever weight she could throw into her swing would make the giant creature release her. It wouldn't. If her she had more mobility in her arms she might have just stabbed the thing with her blade. Annabeth's brain was going on overload, she needed to get free. Her attention diverted, however, as most of the monsters on the battle field were swept away by a large wave.
Percy Annabeth thought as she searched the drenched ground for the one person she could never live without. The Gryphon squalled once and brought her higher into the air. It was taking her off of the island!
"No!" Annabeth screamed. "I can't lose him! Never again!"
She realized that her arm with the shoulder wound was slick with her blood, if she pulled hard enough she'd be free. Annabeth grit her teeth and began to slide her arm from the creatures grasp. After a long moment she was successful, she was so relived that she could have cried. Annabeth used her blade and stabbed the beast in the chest with all of the strength she could muster. And then she was falling.
Was falling to your death better than being food for some stupid monster?
The wind rushed around her providing no sympathy, it didn't care that she was falling towards her death or that she had a future. She wondered if it was the air that was whistling so loudly, so desperately around her. Annabeth frantically looked for Percy, if she could just see him one more time she'd be happy. He was no where in sight. She would have cried if the wind wasn't drying out her eyes. Because she let her guard down she was going to lose everything.
Suddenly her decent stopped.
Air rushed from Annabeth's lungs as she made contact with a hard surface. At first she thought it was the ground, but it slowly dawned on her, she wasn't dead. Around her she could hear the flapping of wings. Maybe it was Frank who turned into a bird. Annabeth's head was rested against something soft and hairy and it smelled like hay. Slowly she opened her eyes and was met by the black maned neck of a horse.
Blackjack? She thought. How'd he get here?
Percy's horse looked at her over his shoulder. There was a playful gleam in his eyes that reminded her of Percy and how perfectly her boyfriend and this horse were matched as friends. She wished she could ask him questions and be able to understand him back. The black Pegasus gave a little whinny.
"I'm okay." She hoped that she was answering his question. "Can you take me back to Percy?"
Blackjack's head immediately shot towards the direction of the island. Annabeth thought back to when Percy had first went missing, she never had thought about telling the poor Pegasus at first, her soul focus was finding Percy. After a few days without Percy taking him on flights, the poor horse got restless and began tromping around the whole camp day and night searching for Percy in the loudest ways possible. At one point he was even stomping on the roof of her cabin, so she decided to tell him.
To sum up everything after that, Blackjack was devastated. It took hundreds of sugar cubes for Annabeth to get him to let her take him out, and the promise that she would find his 'boss'.
Annabeth was brought out of her memories when Blackjack made a fast decent towards the island. With a yelp the daughter of Athena wrapped her arms around the horse's neck. She could still see plenty of monsters that needed slaying, but the constant flow of them seemed to stop. Waiting for them at the center of the island was Percy. He was covered in mud and fighting monsters right and left. She could see Hazel and Frank fighting together to keep the monsters off of Percy's blind spot while Piper and Jason were slowly working their way towards the other two to help.
At the sight of Percy Blackjack gave a gleeful call and landed heavily right next to the son of Poseidon. Percy killed on more monster before finally looking at them. Despite the dirt that he was caked in, he was absolutely beautiful. Annabeth ached to reach out and wipe the dirt from his cheeks. Percy came around and helped her off of the Pegasus. She wasted no time wrapping her arms around him and burring her face into his shoulder.
"Thanks buddy." Percy told the Pegasus. "I think you beat your record."
Blackjack gave a snort followed by a whinny. "Yeah, Yeah, plenty of sugar cubes and donuts when I get home, how about you head out so you don't get hurt."
Annabeth couldn't help but smile at how causally Percy talked with Black Jack. After giving Percy an affectionate face nuzzling the horse took for the sky.
"I'm glad he got to you in time Wise girl." Percy tightened his arms around her. "I was so afraid, when I saw you falling..."
Annabeth cupped his face in her hands. "No matter what happens, we're always together. Now, lets kick some monster butt and get off of this island."
They immediately were swamped by monsters. Annabeth missed fighting beside Percy, it was so natural, almost like breathing. She screamed duck when a monster came up behind him and he did without any hesitation. She smiled and helped him to his feet after killing the monster. One time he even pulled her away and stabbed a monster that was coming after her. For the longest time, there was nothing except her and Percy battling so flawlessly together, almost like they were dancing.
She caught glimpses of the others working seamlessly, but her main concern was Percy.
Just when it seemed as if they were nearing the end of the battle, Gaea let out a scream of anger. The island began to crumble around them like a plate someone shattered on the ground. A large quiver of the Earth sent the her and Percy tumbling apart, separating them with a long wide crack in the ground. Annabeth screamed for Percy and he shouted for her. Molten liquid began to seep from some of the crevasse.
"ENOUGH OF THIS!" The Earth goddess screamed. "I WILL HAVE WHAT I WANT!"
Despite the devastated terrain, Earthborn began to erupt from the ground. Annabeth looked over her shoulder she could see the others were being attacked by the Earth goddess's monsters. She felt her heart sink, they had been so close to wining. How could everything be falling apart?
"Ah!" Percy yelped.
Fear raced through Annabeth as she looked at her boyfriend. A single root was holding him up by one of his arms. His face was contorted in pain as he put all of his energy into swinging Riptide upwards and slashing through the vine. They were like the Hydra, you cut away one and two more would appear in their place. Annabeth scrambled to her feet and tried to run to him, ignoring the Earthborn that chased after her, ignoring the large gap that separated her and Percy, and ignoring the heat that the lava was creating. She was going to get to him, Gaea couldn't win.
Annabeth prayed that one of the gods would give her the distance she needed to reach Percy. He did the imposable, so could she. Closing her eyes Annabeth jumped. She almost let out a cry of joy when her feet touched the ground. After enjoying her victory Annabeth ran to Percy . He was covered in the remains of vines that hadn't released their vice grips when they had been killed.
"I've got your back Seaweed brain." She told him as she pressed her back against his.
Annabeth could feel the heat of his skin through both of their shirts. She wished she could enjoy being this close to him, she wanted to go back to Paris and spend time with him again. She would get back to that peace.
"I will destroy you daughter of Athena!" Gaea declared. "You've gotten in my way. Percy Jackson belongs to me!"
The blond demigod cut down a vine that was heading strait for her chest. "He's not an object to be owned. Percy doesn't belong to anyone."
"He's a weapon, an unpredictable one." The Earth goddess continued. "Yet probably one of the most powerful. He was born to serve me. Just like the rest of you were meant to by my sacrifices."
Percy reached out and grabbed her free hand as if to comfort her. I'm always going to be here Wise girl. Gaea wouldn't win, she couldn't. Both demigods continued to bat away the vines that continued to reach out for them. The laughter of the Earth goddess was like a annoying cackle that Annabeth wanted to silence.
"He'll always be mine." Gaea bellowed. "I am Mother Earth, I own everything!"
A whole horde of Earthborn broke their way from the ground around them. If Annabeth didn't have so much adrenalin coursing through her veins she might have collapsed to her knees. Percy again squeezed her hand in his, assuring her they could win.
"We've fought greater odds." He spoke lowly as he raised Riptide in defense.
Sorry about not updating in a long time. I had a really bad writer's block and I still had it when writing a lot of this chapter. I hope you enjoyed it and I will try to update this soon.
