Chapter 3

A couple of days later, Roderick arrive early to the choir room. It was empty as he predicted. He wanted to go early because he wanted to have some time alone. He couldn't forget what he saw in the mall that last week. He didn't know why was he feeling uneasy. It shouldn't have bothered him that Mason and Jane were a couple but he just couldn't let it go. He was about to put on his new headphones that he got back from the shop when he heard a voice in front of him

"You're early Roderick" The voice said as he slowly looked up. He saw Rachel standing in front of her with a large stack of music sheets

" Ms. Berry, I'm sorry if I was too early. Maybe I should come back later" Roderick said as he started to leave but Rachel stopped him

"N-no. It's alright. I was kinda arrived early too. Wanted to prepare some music sheets. Why are you here this early?" Rachel said while looking at him

"It's nothing, I just needed to clear my head" Roderick said while looking down

"Did anything happened?" She asked him with a worried face

"It's nothing. Don't you worry about it" He said as he continued to look down not wanting to look at her

"Alright then. I'm going to sort some music sheets out" She said as she started to walk away

" . Can I ask you a question?" Roderick said and Rachel was stopped in her tracks. She walked back and sat in front of him

"Sure, what is it?"

"What would you do if you really like this certain someone but that certain someone is your bestfriend. Do you think it will be alright if you confess your true feelings for that someone?" Roderick asked and Rachel was shocked

"That's a really tough question. Do you happened to like someone Roderick?" She asked and Roderick blushed while looking down

"You do like someone. Who is it?"

"I cannot tell but back to my question " Roderick said and Rachel managed to calm down

"Well, if that someone loves you back. That's great but if she doesn't. You will sacrifice your friendship with her. Would you do that?" Rachel asked him

"I don't want to sacrifice my friendship with her but I want her to know my true feelings" Roderick said with a sighed as he didn't know what to do

"Well follow what your heart tells you. I know you will do what's right" Rachel said to him patting him on the arm

"Thanks for the advice Ms. Berry "

"You're welcome Roderick' Rachel said as she stood up.

Moments after that, the other members of the Glee Club arrived. Jane and Mason came in together while holding hands with an irritated looking Madison following behind them. Spencer and Kitty was arguing about something but he couldn't hear them. Jane sat next to him as she gave him a smile. His heart started to beat fast again and he really wanted to tell his feelings towards her at that moment but he was interrupted by Kurt in front

"Hello. I bet you guys are anxious to know what is our theme for this week right?" Kurt inquired and all of them nodded anxiously. Rachel and Kurt flipped the writing board over.

"This week's theme is Love Week. We just had Valentine's day yesterday but we thought why don't we make a whole week just based on the theme love" Kurt said enthusiastically

"We want you to perform a love song either as a solo or a duet. It can be from the classics or the newer ones." Rachel explained to all of them.

As the day ended. Everyone was chatting among themselves whether they should do a solo or a duet. Roderick could clearly hear Mason and Jane talking about doing a duet. His heart fell into a million pieces as he wanted to ask her first. While the others wanted to do a solo. He was lost in his thoughts as he didn't know what to do

"Roderick? What songs are you doing?" Jane asked him but Roderick didn't heard her. He was still in his own world

"Roderick? Can you hear me?" Jane said and finally Roderick was back to reality

"What did you say Jane?" Roderick said while looking at her

"I asked what songs will you do?"

"Oh. I haven't decided yet. Maybe I would do some classics. Sorry but I gotta go home. I'm really tired" Roderick lied. He was actually really devastated but he pretended to look tired.

"Oh alright. Take care Roderick. See you tomorrow?" Jane asked as she looked at him with a concern face

"See you tomorrow" Roderick said as he walked away heads down. Jane knew something was wrong with him but she just couldn't figure out what. If only she knew that she was the reason for him feeling sad. When he was walking home, the song "I can't make you love me" By Bonnie Raitt kept playing in his head. So he started singing it

Turn down the lights;
Turn down the bed.
Turn down these voices
Inside my head.

He arrived at his house looking down. His mother greeted him but he didn't heard her. He slowly went up the stairs and locked the door. He wasn't in a mood to do anything.

Lay down with me;
Tell me no lies.
Just hold me close;
Don't patronize.

Don't patronize me.

Roderick laid on his bed looking at his phone. He looked at the pictures of him and Jane in his phone. He smiled looking at the picture of her and him in Rachel's party dressed as King and Queen.

'Cuz I can't make you love me

Here in the dark
In these final hours,

He slowly closed his eyes as the sadness and heartache took over. Flashbacks of Jane kept coming to his mind. He really missed the chance. He should probably stay friends with her. He shouldn't have to tell his true feelings.

I'll close my eyes,
Then I won't see
The love you don't feel
When you're holding me.

Morning will come,
And I'll do what's right;
Just give me till then
To give up this fight.

And I will give up this fight.

As he closed his eyes, tears streamed on his cheeks as he realized that he won't have the chance to express his true feelings for her. He missed the chance and probably won't have it again.
