I slowly open my eyes, my head hurting too much to be aware of anything around me. All I know is that there is a deafening ringing in my ears and a blinding light shining in my eyes. I rub my eyes a few times before actually trying to take in what's happening.
The first thing I process is that I'm in the cab of a moving truck. The next thing I know is that my chest aches, like there's a large hole in my heart.
"Good morning, love. Have a nice nap?" a voice sarcastically asks. I turn my head to the left to see a gorgeous, blond man. It takes me a second to remember who he is.
"Niklaus," I mumble. "You sound unsure of yourself. I wonder why that is," he mumbles. I look around once again.
"Where's my mother?" He glances to the side view mirror. "She's driving the car behind us." I glance at my side view mirror and have to do a double take.
"That's my jeep!" I exclaim. "You're right. I've had people following us in it. This time, I let your mother take it for a spin," he smirks. I turn back to him. "You let random people touch my car?" He nods.
"I can't wait until I find a damn white oak stake. You don't let random people touch my car. Oh, my baby probably has so many problems with her," I say. He rolls his eyes.
"Is it really that big of a deal?" I turn to him with so much anger running through my veins. "Yes, it is a very big deal. If that car gets hurt in anyway, what makes you think that I have the money to pay for it?"
"How'd you get here from England then?" His bright blue eyes turn to me as he asks. I throw my hands in the air. "My grandparents payed for it."
I smile at my mother as we follow Klaus' truck down the highway. She stares at me for a minute. "How did you even manage to get him to let you drive your jeep?" she asks.
My smile grows wider as images of me slapping Klaus every time he refused to let me drive my car come to mind. "I don't slap and tell, mum." She rolls her eyes and turns away.
I turn on the radio and tap ye steering wheel along to the beat of the song. Mom finally turns back to me with wide eyes. "Do you know who this is?"
I shake my head. Her grin widens as she turns the sound up. "It's Pentatonix!" My eyes widen. Amelia had made me listen to them on every car ride we took. How did I not recognize them?
"You have to learn to love again!" I shout along with the song. Mom laughs at me loudly before she starts singing along with me. "You don't know why, you don't know how, you don't know where to love again!"
We pass the 'Welcome to Mystic Falls' sign and I frown. "Why are we back?" Mom looks at me like I'm the stupidest person ever. "He figured it out."
"Who figured what out?" I can smell the disbelief that comes off of her. "Klaus... figured out that... Elena... is alive." As I turn to her in surprise, I accidentally jerk the steering wheel to the side. While I straighten the jeep out, my phone starts ringing. I groan and let Mom grab it.
She answers it. "Hello?" "What the bloody hell was that?"
I roll my eyes. "Niklaus, nice to hear your voice. I thought I saw something." He replies, "Maybe you shouldn't be driving. I can't let you die."
"It wasn't him. It was a damn bird, nothing to worry about. And why do you need me alive?" He's silent for a second. "You're the queen of the wolves, and something would happen to my brother if you died."
"Alright, we'll talk later." Mom hangs up and I growl. "He's not telling me something."
"How do you know?" Oh, my mother, forever the optimist. "He's manipulative. He's saving me for something; he's either bargaining me for something or he's waiting for the perfect time to play his cards."
She frowns and looks out the window. I can hear her heart beating like crazy and it's worrying me. Oh, what is to come next?
