I wrap my arms around my legs and stare into the fire place. Alexander is right beside me on the couch. He's tapping his fingers against the armrest anxiously as Mom makes tea for us. Toby is in the recliner in the corner, and Peter and Monique are on the loveseat.
"So how have you been?" Mom asks everyone as she brings a tray of mugs into the living room. Alex smiles up at her gratefully.
"We're been surviving. The whole 'being immortal' thing makes it easier," Peter answers. Mom nods. She opens her mouth to ask another question.
"I doubt they want to be hounded with questions, Mom," I state, cutting her off.
"You can't talk to your mother like that, Hazel," Monique scolds me. I roll my eyes and stand up.
"I need to speak to Niklaus," I mumble before leaving the house. As I walk down the street, I hear Mom sigh sadly.

I watch Klaus pull a blazer out of a bag. "Don't you think we're both a little too old to be going to a high school dance?"
He shrugs. "It's not like anyone will actually care. I'm giving a bunch of alcoholic teenagers drinks and food. They'll be satisfied."
I stand from the bed. "Speaking of drinks, do you have anymore liquid vervain?" I ask. He nods and tosses a small vial at me. I catch it easily and pour it into his tea. I quickly drink some of it, coughing as it burns my throat.
"That should last you three days at least," he tells me. I nod. "And tonight, I need you to stay in the mansion until I give you the signal," he adds. I frown.
"What's the point of going if I can't actually celebrate?" He turns to me.
"Just trust me, alright? I need you safe. That means stay in the house, you understand?" he questions, pulling his Henley off. I nod.
He goes to take a sip of his tea, coughing as it goes down his throat. "Oh, I forgot to tell you. I put the vervain in that," I state. He scowls and throws his shoe at me. I laugh and duck out of the way.

I smooth my blue t-shirt as I sit on the couch in the mansion. I close my eyes for a small second.
"Why aren't you out there with your brother?" I groan and open my eyes.
"Can you not interrupt the small moment of peace I was having?" Katerina shrugs and throws me a blood bag. I catch it and watch her carefully.
"I figured you might need a little drink if you're going to be stuck up here all night. And I wanted to talk to Elijah," she states, nervously adding the last part. I glance at Elijah for some reassurance.
"Let me control your body," he commands. I take a deep breath and relax my muscles. Suddenly, I'm sitting where Elijah was and there's a brown-eyed, brunette version of me sitting where I was.
She stands and readjusts the sweater we're wearing. "Katerina, what did you wish to speak of?"
"Elijah?" Katerina gasps and her eyes widen.
"Answer the question," Elijah commands.
"What do I get in return if I help Hazel get you back?" the doppelganger asks. Elijah hums.
"I won't kill you," he answers.
"What did I do?" she exclaims.
"You led Hazeline and her family to their deaths. You could've helped her get out of being stuck with Niklaus, but instead you left her there. I could very well kill you right now, but I'm letting you live. Now, leave before I change my mind." Katerina disappears and I'm back in my own body.
I grab a piece of my shoulder-length hair and inspect it, finding it to be jet black. I sigh in relief and turn to Elijah, who is now back in all his bad ass glory.
"Did you know that you change my hair and eye color just by controlling my body?" I ask. He shakes his head.
"I did not know that. But I need to tell you something, my father is here. Do you remember what I told you about him?" I nod. "He's going to try to kill my brother tonight. He's compelling all of the hybrids and I know Niklaus has you drinking vervain. Some hybrids will come for you, fight them," he tells me. I nod again and he disappears.
I drink the blood that Katerina gave me and throw the bag away. A few hybrids come into the room and I smile. "Yes?"
"Klaus wants you downstairs," one of them says. I nod before snapping her neck. Another hybrid runs at me and I pull his heart out. I soon fight all of the hybrids off and take a deep breath. As I walk out of the room, I feel someone's hands on my head and they turn it to the side.

When I wake up, I'm being pushed into someone's arms. "Fine, I'll just kill this one instead. She's the only one you trust, isn't she?"
I open my eyes and find myself staring into Klaus' icy blue eyes. He's crying and I'm being held by calloused hands. I blink several times as a ringing sounds in my ears. After a few moments, it goes away.
"Your choice, Niklaus." I feel a stake being driven into my chest. The calloused hands drop me and I fall to my knees. I fall back and stare into the dark blue, starry sky. My chest hurts so bad. The last thing I see before everything goes black is Elijah's wide brown eyes.
