A/N: I know, I'm the worst. Only the epilogue left and it takes me this long. My external memory crashed with all my material on it. I know it isn't an excuse, but that's the excuse. Anyway, for whoever is still interested, and epilogue as the finishing touch.

Niamh, thank you so much for your excitement, encouragement, and ideas throughout this story, not to mention your fabulous beta capabilities. I couldn't have done it without you x.

Chapter 15: Epilogue

"Oh my God, he's so perfect," Lorelai coos, looking down at the new born baby in her arms, as she shifts to make herself more comfortable on the bed. "Luke, look at him."

"He's beautiful," I reply, leaning over Lorelai's shoulder, looking down as the baby grabs my finger tightly in his little fist. "He looks just like you," I add, pressing a soft kiss to her temple.

Lorelai lets out a chuckle. "Yeah, if he knows what's good for him," she jokes, staring down at the baby and trailing her finger softly from his forehead over his nose, closely inspecting the details of the new born.

As he opens his eyes, I rub his tummy gently. "Hi, little man," I say as he stares up at us.

"Hi Tobias," Lorelai coos, her smile growing even bigger—if that's possible. "Awh, he's looking at me," she continues and I can hear the emotion in her voice.

"He sure is," Rory agrees as she smiles tiredly at her mother.

Lorelai looks up at her daughter who's situated next to her on the bed and she presses a kiss to her cheek. "You did so good, honey," she compliments her.

"Thank you," Rory whispers emotionally.

"I agree. Finally some more testosterone in this family," I say jokingly.

James nods and Rory pats his cheek jokingly. "Poor boys," she says, as Lorelai snickers.

She looks up at me with twinkling eyes. "Admit it. You love it." I simply shrug my shoulders in reply, but I know the small grin on my face gives me away.

"Talking about your female offspring, perhaps it's time to bring the girls in to meet their nephew, huh?" James suggests. I nod in agreement and attempt to go, but Rory's husband stops me and leaves the room himself.

"God, Rory, he's so perfect. I think I'm gonna take him home with me," Lorelai decides, placing a kiss to Tobias' chubby cheek.

"Ha! Not a chance!" Rory informs her. "You wanna go home with mommy, don't you Toby?" she asks the little boy. "Yes, you do," she answers her own question.

"'Mommy'," Lorelai repeats softly, trying out the name Rory used for herself. "That's gonna take some getting used to," she tells Rory who nods in agreement.

We are quiet for a little while, simply staring at the snoozing new addition to our family.

"God, at this moment, everything is right in the world," Lorelai says dreamily.

"Well…" Rory replies doubtfully.

Lorelai's head shoots up as she looks incredulously at her daughter. "Isn't it?"

Rory carries a tired but cheeky grin. "Now, if you two would just get married again, then everything would be right in the world," she explains, causing me to chuckle. After nine years of being back together, she still doesn't give up—I don't think she ever will.

"Sweets…" Lorelai says with a sigh, having had this discussion many times before, "You know we don't need to get married to know we want to spend the rest of our lives together."

"Yeah, I know," Rory sighs. "Such a shame though. I love me a good party."

Lorelai laughs at that. "Hon, I don't think you're gonna have time for parties any time soon," she tells her, looking down at Toby and swaying him a bit to make her point clear.

"True," Rory laughs.

"Nice try though," she tells her daughter, "Getting on my back about this on an emotional day like this. You must be a Gilmore."

"And proud to be so," Rory chimes in, followed by a big yawn.

"Besides, who would want to marry a grandmother, right Toby?" Lorelai says, trailing her forefinger over the outline of the sleeping baby's face again.

I chuckle. "You're not old," I tell her, combing my hand through her dark curls.

She looks up at me with a cheeky grin. "You're right." She turns back towards her grandson. "I may be your grandmother, but I'm only 47, so no calling me 'grandma'. Agreed? Luke however…" she trails off.

At that moment, the door opens and Elly and Abby come into the room, followed by James, who reclaims his position by Rory's side, saving me from having to reply to Lorelai's teasing.

"Oh my God, he's so small!" Abby exclaims, sitting down by her mother's legs to peer over the baby.

"Well, yeah, he is a new born," I deadpan.

"Hardy har har." Abby playfully narrows her eyes at me, before looking back at her nephew.

"Rory," Elly says in awe, "He's so beautiful."

"Thank you. You wanna hold him?" Rory asks.

Elly nods eagerly, as Lorelai cradles the baby closer to her chest, while whining, "Nuh uh!'.

"Oh puh-lease mom. You've held him all this time, not even giving Luke a turn," Rory tells her.

Lorelai pouts, but gives in and tells her daughter to sit down in the empty chair. I take the baby from her arms and place him gently in Elly's arms. Abby quickly repositions onto her knees next to the chair, ooh-ing and aah-ing over the baby.

"Okay, I have changed my mind," Elly informs us, looking from me to her mother and back, "I don't want to go far away to college after all. I want to stay close to my cutie wittle nephew," and she coos down at the baby.

"Fat chance," I reply, "It's already been paid," receiving a huge grin from my daughter to that news.

Abby snorts. "You should have thought about that sooner," resulting in an eye-roll from Elly.

"It was a joke," she tells Abby. Then she looks up at the new parents. "I want weekly pictures and videos," she informs them sternly, "And you better give him a kiss from me every night."

Rory laughs. "We'll do our best little sis."

"Okay, my turn to hold him," Abby states, always the impatient one. Elly stands up and Abby takes her place in the chair, as Elly hands the baby over to her little sister.

"By the way, mom, you're horrible," Elly says.

"What do you mean?" Lorelai asks confused.

"Rory has been in labour for hours, and James has been with her all this time, yet you claim her bed," she explains.

"Only half of it!" Lorelai defends herself.

Elly rolls her eyes, as Abby chimes in, "Get off the bed and let the ones that actually did the work get some rest."

Lorelai looks aghast at me. I raise my eyebrows at her. "They do have a point," earning a scoff from Lorelai.

"I'll have you know that I spent the same amount of hours sweating in the waiting room!" Lorelai exclaims.

"Yeah, sitting with your legs on dad's lap while reading magazines," Elly notes.

Lorelai folds her arms defiantly over her chest. "And yet you teenagers claimed the only available chair," Lorelai says as she points at the sixteen year old sitting on the chair and her eighteen year old sister on the handrail.

"Oh so now you're suddenly old?" I ask. "I thought you were explaining how young you are not ten minutes ago."

Lorelai narrows her eyes at me, mouthing a playful I hate you as she reluctantly gets off the bed.

Rory is laughing as she informs her, "Really mom, you don't have to move."

"It's okay sweets," she presses a kiss to the top of Rory's head, who scoots further to the middle of the bed, wincing slightly. "We should go anyway. You need your rest."

Rory smiles gratefully. "I would argue that you can stay, but really, I can barely keep my eyes open," she confesses.

"Alright, we're leaving," I inform as the girls groan, reluctantly agreeing to leave their nephew.

Lorelai takes Tobias from Abby's arms and gives him to his father. "You better take good care of them, or you'll hear from me," I tell James, who nods solemnly.

Rory laughs. "Don't worry, Luke. We'll be fine."

I nod and walk towards the exit as my three girls hug Rory and James, kiss the baby, and follow me, so the new parents can follow Toby's suit and get some sleep.

"We'll see you tomorrow, sweets," Lorelai says, as I place my hand on the small of her back, guiding her towards the now open door.

"Hey Luke!" Rory calls after me, causing me to turn around.

"Yeah?" I ask.

"You may not officially be my stepfather anymore, but you don't mind this little one calling you 'grandpa', do you?" she asks nervously, her hand rubbing lovingly over Tobias' belly in her husbands arms.

I smile back at her, genuinely touched by the gesture. "Not in the slightest," I answer.

I look back at Lorelai, a proud smile plastered on her beautiful face. Then her face changes into something more familiar: mischief; mock; joy. "Of course he doesn't mind," she says with a wide grin. "After all, he is over fifty," she whispers conspiratorially.

I simply roll my eyes at her and Rory laughs. "I love you, Mom," she tells her.

"Love you too, kid. And I'm very proud of you." Lorelai walks back over to Rory to kiss her forehead and quickly kisses Tobias' cheek for the umpteenth time. "Night sweets," she tells her and we finally leave the room.

I wrap my arm around Lorelai's shoulder and pull her close to my side as I see her eyes finally tearing up. We follow our daughters to the car at a small distance.

"A new generation of Gilmores," I tell her, squeezing her side softly, "How about that." She looks up at me with a broad, teary smile, before she lays her head on my shoulder as we walk out of the hospital.

"How about that," she repeats softly.
