Author's Note: So, for the prompt "books", I decided to write a modern AU.

"Jinora! We're leaving!" Tenzin Gyatso called from the kitchen of his house.

"Coming dad!" Jinora shouted, grabbing her backpack and running down the stairs. She met her dad at the door. Her little brother Meelo was already in the car, as was her younger sister, Ikki. Jinora jumped in the front seat, and her dad got in the driver's seat and turned the ignition key. The high school was the closest, so Tenzin dropped off Jinora at school first. Ikki was still in middle school and Meelo was in elementary school, so they would get dropped off next. As Jinora walked through the doors, she was swept up in the tide of students heading to their first period. Jinora headed to Ms. Sato's classroom. When she got in Ms. Sato waved her over. Jinora put her backpack at her desk and walked over to her.

"Good morning Ms. Sato. Do you need something?" Jinora asked.

"Actually yes," Ms. Sato said, "I was wondering if you could tutor a student for me? He's been having some trouble with history and since your grades are so great, I thought you could tutor him."

"Oh!" Jinora said, "Um, sure. I guess I could do that. Who is it?"

"Kai Lightfoot."

"Kai?" Jinora said. Kai sat in the back of the classroom. He had a reputation as a "bad boy" and lived with foster parents since his real ones died in a fire when he was young. Kai was also quite the looker. He had emerald green eyes with a mischievous glint in them. He had brown hair that was shaved at the sides. Many girls had a secret crush on him.

"Yes, is there a problem with that?" Ms. Sato asked.

"N-No. I can tutor Kai," Jinora stammered.

"Okay, good. I knew I could count on you Jinora," her teacher said with a smile. Jinora went back to her seat in a daze. She'd be tutoring one of the cutest guys in school! She watched as Ms. Sato called Kai up to her desk. After exchanging a few words with the teacher, Kai walked over to Jinora's desk.

"So, you're gonna be my history tutor," he said nonchalantly. Jinora felt like she couldn't speak. She nodded.

"Cool," Kai said, shoving his hands in his pockets, "So, Saturday at your place?"

"W-What?" Jinora managed to get out.

"First tutoring session," Kai explained, "Does Saturday at your house work?"

"Oh, um, yeah, that should be fine," Jinora said, a rosy blush appearing on her cheeks.

"Great," Kai said, "I guess I'll see you Saturday then." He started back to his desk, but then turned back, looking as if he'd forgotten something.

"Oh, I don't know where you live," Kai said, walking back over to Jinora.

"O-Oh yeah," Jinora stammered.

"Here, I'll give you my cellphone number and you can text me the address. Sound good?"

Jinora nodded and Kai took out a piece of scrap paper and scribbled something on it with a pen. He gave it to her.

Kai's number: 838-902-3026

Jinora looked back up at Kai.

"Will that work?" he said.

"Yes."

"Good." He gave her a grin that made Jinora feel all warm inside, then headed back to his own desk.

The doorbell rang at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday. Tenzin Gyatso opened the door to find a boy that looked Jinora's age standing on the front porch. The boy wore jeans and had a hoodie pulled over his shirt. A backpack was slung over one shoulder. His green eyes were stunning and his brown hair was shaved at the sides.

"May I help you?" Tenzin asked cautiously.

"Oh! Hey there. My name's Kai. I go to school with Jinora and she is supposed to tutor me. She said today would work for our first lesson," the boy said.

"Oh really? Jinora must have forgot to mention it to us. One second please." Tenzin walked inside.

"JINORA! COME HERE PLEASE," he called.

Jinora appeared a few moments later.

"Oh! Kai!" she said seeing the boy who stood outside.

"Hey Jinora," Kai said with a grin.

"Jinora, you didn't tell us you were having someone over today," Tenzin said to his daughter.

"Oh, uh, I must have forgotten to tell you dad, sorry. I'm actually tutoring him for school, so yeah…" Jinora said. Tenzin raised his eyebrow.

"Tutoring. That's all, right?" he asked suspiciously.

"Yes! Gosh dad, you seriously need to stop reading too much in between the lines. We're just having a tutoring session! If my word's not good enough for you, you can call Ms. Sato and ask her," Jinora said, sounding exasperated.

"Fine," Tenzin said, "Kai, go ahead and come in." Kai walked in the door and whistled as he came into the house.

"Man, this is a nice place you got here," he said, sounding impressed.

"Thanks," Jinora said.

"Where do you live Kai?" Tenzin asked.

"I live downtown with my foster parents."

"Oh really? A downtown guy, huh?" Tenzin said, "I've heard it's pretty rough there."

"Nah, not really. I get along just fine," Kai said.

"Hm," Tenzin said.

"Um, Kai and I are gonna go get started now, okay dad?" Jinora said.

"Fine."

As Jinora and Kai walked up the stairs toward her room, they heard Tenzin call out one more thing.

"AND LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN JINORA!"

Jinora blushed at her dad's words, but Kai just acted as if Tenzin hadn't said anything. When they got to Jinora's room, Kai put down his backpack and sat down on the floor next to it. Jinora grabbed her textbooks and sat down next to him.

"So, um, Ms. Sato asked me to help you get ready for the exam that's coming up. If you do well on that, it could bring up your grade significantly according to her," Jinora said.

"Okay," Kai said, a determined look in his eyes, "Let's do this." And so, they dug into the books.

On their last tutoring session before the exam, Kai knocked on the door wearing jeans and a t-shirt that fit him well. His jacket was slung over his shoulder and he had his books under his arm.

"Hi Kai," Jinora said, letting him in. After many tutoring session, the initial nervousness of being around a good looking "bad boy" like Kai had worn off. In fact, Jinora had learned that Kai was not actually bad at all. It was just the fact that he lived downtown and had stolen once when he was eight years old only because he was starving and needed food, that he'd gained that reputation.

"So, you feeling ready for the exam on Monday?" Jinora asked him as they headed to her room.

"Yep, all thanks to you," Kai replied.

They once again sat down on the floor and pulled out their history textbooks. However, this time, Jinora found Kai sitting a lot closer to her. In fact, he was so close their knees were almost touching. Jinora tried focus, but could not. She looked over to fined Kai staring at her intensely.

"K-Kai?" she stammered, the nerves back.

"Shhh," he said, hushing her. He then took her face in his hands and pressed his lips to hers. Jinora's heart sped up significantly. She found herself wrapping her arms around his neck and Kai took this as a sign to deepen the kiss. Jinora couldn't believe this was happening. How could she be making out with one of the hottest guys in school? Eventually the two had to part so that they could breath. Jinora took the opportunity to speak.

"I don't think my lips are on the exam Kai," she said. Kai chuckled.

"Does it really matter?" he asked her.

Jinora shook her head with a smile and let Kai kiss her again.
