Here's a short, fluffy chapter (emphasis on fluffy- I was feeling fluffy, sorry). Enjoy! :)
Annabeth POV: During Mark of Athena
It was one of those days where we really had nothing to do. I know, that's extremely rare for a demigod- but it was happening now. All of the seven were lounging about in the conference room and kitchen. Leo was eating spaghetti, Hazel and Frank were playing a card game, Piper was sketching, Jason was sharpening a few weapons, and I was doing a crossword puzzle on the table. I glanced for a moment over to where my boyfriend lay sprawled on the couch, one leg off and an elbow shielding his head. I knew he wasn't sleeping though, because every once in a while he would peek at me, grin lopsidedly with a loving expression, then cover his face again, leaving me to chuckle and shake my head a little. I was so glad we had found him, I'd missed him so much. Stupid Hera, thinking she was the queen of the world and could do anything.
Well, I guess she kind of was. But that still doesn't make it okay for her to take my boyfriend from me for eight months.
However, I had him back now. And I wasn't going to let him go.
I looked back down at my crossword puzzle, reading the next clue. "The Greek god of war."
Oh, I wonder. These are really hard (sarcasm totally intended). But they gave me something to do at the moment, so I pressed on.
Percy let out a large, exaggerated sigh and I rolled my eyes. That was his not-so-subtle way of saying he was bored.
"Percy?" I asked, continuing when he grunted. "What's an eight letter word for 'perfect in character, beauty, and skill'?" I knew it was "flawless," but I wanted him to get this right. So badly.
He sat up, swinging his legs down over the side, his hunched over muscular back facing me. He ran a hand over his hair, making the ebony mess even more unruly.
After thinking for a moment, he counted on his fingers silently, pulling a small smile out of me as I twirled the pencil in my fingers absentmindedly.
Then he answered, saying confidently without hesitation: "Annabeth."
My fingers froze, and I'm pretty sure I heard Leo scoff and whisper, "He's whipped." Jason snorted slightly, looking over his glasses at Percy with a smirk while Piper got an Aphrodite that-is-so-adorable expression on her face. Hazel and Frank just smiled and shook their heads, carrying on with their game.
I just stared at the back of my boyfriend's head, a grin slowly growing on my face. He was the cheesiest boyfriend. And I loved him. I got up, dropping the pencil on the table, and walked around the couch to stand in front of him, hands on my hips. He looked up at me under long and dark lashes, eyebrows raised. Then a cheeky, lopsided grin lit up his face, making me shake my head and lean down to capture his lips with mine.
"They're so cute," I heard Piper coo.
"Gods," Leo replied with a disgusted tone. "Don't be such an Aphrodite kid, Beauty Queen."
I heard a smack and Leo yelped, but I didn't care.
I had Percy again, and he was being the irritating yet lovable boy I knew he was. I even ignored the obnoxious "Get a room!" from Leo. But Percy broke our embrace and glared at him.
"Hey," the son of Poseidon said, defending himself. "I've got eight months of kisses to make up for. Deal with it, buddy."
I laughed, leaning back to look at Percy, who had a dazed countenance.
"If you ask another question," he said hopefully, "and I get it right again, do I get another kiss." I sent my eyes to the heavens, stepping up to go back to my puzzle.
"Percy, the answer you gave me wasn't right. It was 'flawless.'"
Percy shrugged. "I don't see any difference."
Cue the "aww"s from the other two girls in the room.
"Well, aren't you just the charmer, Perce," Frank commented, smiling as he laid down a card in the game he was playing. He looked like a cuddly bear sitting cross-legged on the floor.
Percy returned the smile, laying down on the couch, his head barely visible over the back of the couch. "I try, Frank, I try."
"I don't even have to try," Leo said, flexing and doing stupid poses. But his attempts to look cool were lost in the noodle hanging from the side of his sauce-covered mouth. "Girls just fall on their feet, begging to be with the Leo McShizzle."
Piper rolled her eyes. "Yeah, that explains your countless girlfriends."
Leo stuck his tongue out at her as Jason snickered. I just shook my head, going back to my crossword puzzle. I wrote down "F-L-A-W-E-S-S" in the open line, listening to the friendly bickering going on around me. For once, the Fates were on my side as I realized I had stumbled across some of the best friends possible. And the best boyfriend.
I saw Percy staring at me and I looked back, eyebrow raised in a question. His grin returned, his sea-green eyes alight with mirth.
"Just wondering how I got the perfect girlfriend."
I laughed at his words. "Only the gods know, Seaweed Brain."
He put on a pouty face. Then he asked, "Do I still get another kiss?" When I smirked and shook my head, he whined. "That's no fair. You said yes."
"Um, no," I protested. "No, I didn't."
"You didn't?" Percy asked, feigning innocence. I exhaled, just going back to my crossword puzzle. I could feel Percy's grinning gaze trained on me, and I tried to hide my smile in return, the arguments going on around the room filling my ears.
I had all my friends. Now we just had to make it out of this quest together.
Thanks for reading! Sorry again- it's pretty short. Please leave a review, and thanks for being awesome! :)
