Chapter 1
Finally Fitting In
A girl sat alone in a compartment, looking out the window, to the stars outside. Her skin was pale, making her violet eyes even brighter. Her ears were pointed and her heart shaped face was framed by wild and thick hair that was jet black in colour.
Nurah Potter never felt like she truly fit in anywhere. As she was a half Vulcanian, she felt different to the other children at school. Her father was a human, from one of the human colonies on Vulcan, and he had married a Vulcan woman named Elair. He fell in love with her, when she visited his colony to see if the colonists needed any supplies or repairs. A human being married to a Vulcan on their planet was accepted by most in their society, though it wasn't common. There were always some bigots who thought it was unnatural. It only made Nurah feel more like an outsider. As she was growing up, she often expressed her sadness to her father, James Potter, crying into his chest about how she never felt like she belonged. Her father would always say comforting words in her ear, to help her calm down.
However, something changed on her 13th birthday. She had been waiting for it, ever since her father told her when she was six, but after opening her presents, a Taillow, which was often referred to as a space owl, appeared in their house and dropped a letter in Nurahs lap. It was her Hogwarts acceptance letter. She had been so excited. Her father may be human, but he had magical blood. Something any one could have, no matter their species. Her father told Nurah that, when she turned 13, she would be able to go to Hogwarts, a magical castle floating in deep space, protected by an air bubble, where she would spend five years learning any and every aspect of magic. After receiving her letter, her mother and father took her to Arcadia Space Station, to buy her everything she would need for her first year at Hogwarts. Ever since getting her wand, 11 ½ inches, made from Vine Wood with a Core made from the tail feather of a Thunderbird, she couldn't stop running her hand along it. Every time she held it, she felt tingles in her entire body as she felt the magic flow through her. However, even though she was excited to go to Hogwarts, she still felt nervous. A part of her felt like she still wouldn't fit in.
A knock on her compartment door snapped Nurah out from her thoughts. She looked to see three humanoid females standing in the doorway. One was a human, with sapphire blue eyes and her hair was a dark brown, going down several inches past her shoulders in wavy curls. The second, and the tallest of the three, was a Bajoran, her eyes were a dark brown, with a sprinkle of freckles across her cheeks and her face was framed by fiery red hair at her upper back. Nurah could tell from the girls eyes that she can pack a punch. Then there was the smallest of the group. She looked human, but instead of freckles, she icy blue hexagonal like shapes across her cheeks, which stood out on her pale skin. Her eyes were a bright blue and her hair was a silver blonde, which was incredibly long, stopping an inch below her elbows.
"Sorry to disturb you" The dark haired girl said "Do you mind if we sit with you, the other people in our compartment are getting pretty rowdy and everywhere else is full"
"Not at all" Nurah said, gesturing to the other seats "Feel free"
The three girls smiled and put their hand held luggage away, before sitting down on the other seats.
"I'm Astoria Greengrass" The dark haired girl said "The red head is Ginny Weasley and the blonde is Luna Lovegood"
"Nice to meet you" Nurah smiled, giving the three the customary Vulcan salute "I am Nurah Potter"
Nurah couldn't help but smile nervously, as the three girls looked at her in shock, their eyes widening to the point Nurah was concerned they were going to pop out of their sockets.
"Nurah Potter?" Ginny repeated "Daughter of James Potter?"
Nurah nodded in response. Her father had told her, when she was old enough to understand, that several years ago, when Nurah was only a year old, a dark wizard known as Voldemort attacked them. Her father was badly wounded but was able to make defeat Voldemort, who retreated and, if it wasn't for her mother Elair, he probably would've died. Nurah had asked her father what happened to Voldemort, but her father didn't have an answer. Apparently he was never seen again after that night. Many believe he died, but her father believes he is still somewhere out there, hiding, waiting until the time was right to strike again. There were also still many of the wizards followers out there who, despite claiming innocence by being placed under the Imperius Curse, were waiting for his return.
"So, are you three looking forward to Hogwarts?" Nurah asked
"Oh yes" Astoria nodded, realising that Nurah wanted to move on with the conversation "Me and my twin sister Daphne are both going to Hogwarts this year, though we might end up in different Houses"
"I know for a fact I'm going to end up in Gryffindor" Ginny spoke up
"How do you know that?" Nurah asked
"I've had five older brothers go to Hogwarts, they all went to Gryffindor" Ginny replied "Every family member has been in Gryffindor for over 5 generations, I can't remember the last time there was a member in another House"
"What about you Nurah?" Luna asked, her voice soft and airy "Do you know which House you might be in?"
"No, but it's possible I might go to Ravenclaw" Nurah replied "My father always told me that I am quite smart for my age"
"Wouldn't surprise me, you look smart" Astoria said, making Nurah blush a little
…
Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, stood in his office, looking out a large circular window, which gave him a clear view of the galaxy outside. The students would be arriving soon. Nurah Potter would be amongst them. It was a day he was worried about. The young girl didn't know it, but she was part of a prophecy. A prophecy between her and Voldemort. Dumbledore was no fool. Unlike the rest of the Magical side of the galaxy, the ancient Headmaster knew he would return. It was only question as to when. When word reaches the Dark Lord that Nurah was in Hogwarts, it was only a matter of time until he discovered the prophecy and he went after the young girl. Dumbledore could only hope that he can stop that from happening.
…
Nurah found that she quite enjoyed Astoria's, Ginny's and Luna's company. During the journey, she had more of an idea as to the kind of people the three were. Astoria was a free spirit, and unlike other 'Pure-Blooded' magical beings, she didn't believe in the Pure-Blood supremacy, something the rest of the compartment shared an opinion on. Ginny, to put it mildly, was a little spitfire. Nurahs first thoughts were confirmed, from the stories the red head told, she isn't someone you want to cross when she's angry. Luna, was an interesting one. She was light hearted and airy, she doesn't seem to care what people thought about her or her beliefs. Something that Nurah thought was good mindset to have.
It wasn't long until they arrived at the castle. The four girls felt a strange tingling feeling as the shuttle passed through the air bubble. They waited until they received the signal that they were allowed to leave and Nurah couldn't help but look in awe at the castle that stood proud in front of them. She had read about the castle, how it was sent into space when the planet where it was built fell into civil war almost 1000 years ago, a war still going on to this day. This was done so students could still learn magic, without the risk and danger of war. However, the books Nurah read didn't do the castle justice. It looked more majestic then anything she first imagined. Nurah, and the rest of the First Year students, were greeted by a stern looking human female, who introduced herself as Professor McGonagall and led them into the Great Hall.
Nurah couldn't help but look around, at all the other students sat at the four tables. There were all kinds of different species, not just humans, sat at the tables: There were Arcadians, Axanars, Benzites, Dremans, Menks, Risans and many other species mingling together. Nurah turned her attention back to McGonagall, as the students stopped, in front of an old stool where a strange looking hat was sitting alone, looking like it hadn't been worn in centuries. McGonagall held out her palm, where a blue orb appeared, before turning into a holographic screen which held the names of every new student.
"It is now time for our new students to be sorted into their houses" She said "I will call each of you up one by one, the Sorting Hat will be placed on your head and it will sort you into the House it believes you fit in the most"
Nurah couldn't help but raise an eyebrow as the sorting started. She had read about how students were sorted. It may have been a tradition, but Nurah still felt like it was a primitive and outdated method by todays standards, especially in terms of technology. She shrugged those thoughts aside, as she watched the sorting, where many students went to different Houses, with Astoria, as well as her sister Daphne, going into Slytherin. After a while, Nurah's name was called out, where the young girl noticed the Headmaster, a Vulcan like herself, leant forward in his seat. Taking a small breath, Nurah made her way up and sat down on the stool, allowing the hat to be placed on her head.
"My, my, what a mind you have Miss Potter" The Hat said inside her mind "Such intelligence…shouldn't be surprising, as a half Vulcan…there is no need to delve into your mind, its clear where you belong…Miss Potter, I welcome you to…RAVENCLAW!"
Nurah smiled, as the Ravenclaw table cheered. Sitting down in an available seat, Nurah shook hands with some of the other students, turning her attention to the rest of the sorting. It was quite a long process, but eventually, every student was sorted. In the end, Luna went into Ravenclaw, sitting beside Nurah, and Ginny ended up in Gryffindor, something that surprised no one that heard the Weasley name. After the final student was sorted, the food appeared, allowing the students to tuck in. Nurah didn't stop smiling throughout the feast. As she spoke with Luna and some of the other Ravenclaw students, for the first time in her life, she felt like she was in a place where she belonged.
…
Elsewhere, deep in the galaxy, evil was brewing. The spirit of a Reman opened its ghostly eyes. It was growing stronger every day. It wouldn't be long until it was back to its full strength. When it was, it would be able to strike and bring the entire Wizarding Galaxy to it's knees. All it needed was a new body. It was useless in it's current state. Hopefully it's enforcer inside Hogwarts will be able to find something that could give it a new body. When it was whole again, the Wizarding Galaxy will live under its rule.
And anyone who refuses will burn.
…
And that is chapter one done.
What did you guys think? Unlike Star Wars, I am not familiar with Star Trek, it's a franchise I'm not really a fan of, so if there are mistakes I make regarding the lore of Star Trek feel free to let me know.
The main reason why this story has taken so long to actually start, is constant rewrites. I spent quite a while noting down ideas as to the direction I want the story to go down. Despite having an idea as to the direction, it's entirely possible that things will be changed. It happens to all authors, they have ideas, some things they remove and other things they change or add. No doubt it will happen here.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed the first chapter and I'll see you all next time.
