Maureen grabbed the phone and dialed frantically.
Pick up, c'mon honey pick up.. Pick up she mumbled to herself over and over until she heard Mark and Roger's answering machine sing "Speak"
"Mark, honey, are you there?" she asked curiously
"Yea, hey Mo... how are you?" he asked, a little uncomfortable about the insecurity in her voice.
"Listen, Mark, can you come down here? I need to talk to you..."she mumbled looking around her room, "in person... okay?"
"Sure thing" Mark smiled, grabbed his scarf and took his bike from behind Roger's chair.
"Oh.. I get it" joked Roger sarcastically, "Mo wants to... uh...talk to you again, hmm? Cohen I don't know how you do it." and he went back to strumming his guitar although without admitting it, he was curious about what was going to happen, after all, Mark was his best friend.
"Shut up Rog" Mark joked and ran out of the loft eagerly pondering about Maureen... his Maureen.
Mark walked in to Maureen's apartment not really sure of what to expect.
"Uh... Mo? You home?" he asked loosening his blue and white striped scarf. Maureen walked out of the closet, trying to clean up.
"Hey pookie" she said, kissing him and the cheek and laughing as he blushed. "How's it going?"
"It's good... haven't seen you in a long time, tho.. Why –"
"Mark,"she began.. "Listen, honey.. I know it's been great for you, trust me, that wasn't one sided, but... um. How do I say this?" (The later part was meant just for her, but she mumbled it a little too loudly.)
Mark's face sank... Oh my god... no, this sucks... Not even pookie?.. it's over- No! Stay positive, Cohen... it's OH-kay.
Maureen noticed the sadness on his face, "Honey, I know you still want to be with me.. but well, the truth is.."she sighed, "There's uh... someone else."
Mark wanted to scream, he wanted to cry, he just stared agape at Maureen trying to string words together but all he could get out was, "who?"
Maureen smiled even though she knew she shouldn't. "A wonderful lawyer named JoAnne"
"Well great" spat Mark, blinking back tears," you and your wonderful lawyer have a good time." and he ran out of the room. Maureen could only look out the door after him...
"oh well" she grinned and turned to Joanne who was chuckling in the corner, "that could've gone better!"
