Chapter 20: The Great Escape

Once the door was sealed shut, I instantly shot up, wincing as I did so, and looked around for the missing prince. I had noticed his absence while conversing with Josephine and wondered where he could've disappeared to. I softly called out to the vanished trickster, as I slid my body across the floor.

"Loki." I spoke, roaming my eyes across the room slowly. Silence. I said his name once again, but this time, with more force.

"Lo- "I was cut off unexpectantly, when a strong, pale hand shot out from under my bed, and grabbed my foot, causing me to cry out. Another hand of the same physicalities appeared from under the bed to silence my shocked outburst. A face came into view then, a face that filled me with anger.

"Mmph.." I tried to shout, but my words were muffled by the almost choking grip of Loki's hand.

"Quiet." He hissed, glancing at the door, before slowly releasing his hold on me.

"I was being quiet until you attacked me, you big-Wait." I paused, mid insult as realization filled me. A smile slowly spread across my face. "You were hiding under the bed?" I asked, chuckling at the ludicrous notion of the God of Mischief, cowering under the bed, like a kid playing hide and seek.

"Not another word." Loki growled, sending me into a laughing fit, which I promptly tried to stop, by covering my hands over my mouth. Loki scowled at me until I regained my composure. I let out a few more chuckles, and wiped a few tears from my eyes.

"Perhaps next time I shall continue to keep you silenced. Permanently." Loki threatened, glaring at me with glowing green eyes.

I instantly straightened up and swallowed, remembering who I was laughing at. Don't get too comfortable around him. He's still a dangerous criminal. My subconscious spoke. I agreed, and tried to put some distance between me and the angry God, but found that I couldn't.

His hand was still gripped firmly to my ankle.

I wiggled a bit, hoping that Loki would take the hint and let me go, but he seemed to know what my intentions were, for he squeezed my foot tighter. I gasped, at the now, serpent like grip.

"Loki, will you please let me go?" I asked, in exasperation, my foot beginning to throb.

He stared at me unwavering while he spoke.

"That's Prince Loki to you." He said, raising his head slightly.

I stared at him for a moment, before sighing deeply. "Fine. Prince Loki, will you please let me go?" I huffed, deciding it was no use in arguing with him about the validity of that title. I crossed my arms and quirked an eyebrow at him, determined not to back down.

"Why?" He asked, smirking slightly. I grit my teeth and glared at him, hissing out an answer.

"I don't need any more bruises."

Loki frowned, glancing at my arm, before freeing me. I immediately slid away from him, and checked my foot for any injuries. All of a sudden, I felt a light touch upon my arm. I jumped, and jerked my head up.

He was beside me, to my disbelief, but to my utter shock, he was touching me. It wasn't so much the fact that he was touching me that flabbergasted me. It was the fat that he was doing it gently.

I racked my brain for words or even a sound, but I was completely astonished into silence. His somehow soft fingertips skimmed along my arm and to my wrist, sending pleasant shivers through my body. I closed my eyes briefly, savoring the unexpected pleasure.

"Thor always did have too much power with which he didn't know how to properly handle." Loki said quietly, causing me to open my eyes and look at him.

"What are you talking about?"

"The bruises. I overheard you speaking to your friend about them. My brother was always rough. Gave the most horrendous bruises. Believe me; you never forget marks like these."

I was silent, unsure of how to respond.

Loki stared transfixed at the markings along my arm, with an intense look in his eyes. I swallowed, my throat somehow becoming even dryer than before. I cleared my throat, trying to get Loki's attention.

"So, you never did tell me how you escaped." I said, changing the topic. Loki lifted his head to meet my eyes. I swore I could feel my heart stutter for a second.

"Does it matter?" He asked, in a surprisingly soft tone.

"No, I suppose not. Just trying to make conversation." I sighed, running my fingers through my tangled hair, with my free hand. Loki stared at me for a moment, before dropping my arm and moving to sit on the wall opposite me. I sat in silence, waiting for him to speak.

"When you arrived in my cell and applied that healing ointment, it was quite warm in the room at the time. The heat only got worse as the time passed. So much so, that I was able to slide out of my restraints with the aid of your slippery concoction." Loki said in one breath, leaning his head back against the wall.

Looks like the salve aided him in more ways than it was intended. I thought, smiling slightly. Remembering the salve gave me another realization. The clothes! The porridge! I frantically thought. I left them in my haste to free Loki! My eyes widened and I hurriedly tried to stand.

Loki glanced over at me and gave me a look of confusion. I already knew what he was going to ask.

"I have to go back." I stated simply, forcing my wobbly knees to a standing position.

"You are idiotic for doing so."

"Would you rather someone find the bowl and clothing and realize you are still in Asgard?" I asked harshly, using the bed to push myself up.

"I care not what those imbeciles realize." Loki said calmly. "Why do you?"

"Because I love you!"

Author's Note: Hey guys! So so so sorry this took forever. I had major writer's block, plus school and other obstacles were in my way. I hope this chapter will suffice for now. It's more of a filler chapter than anything. How'd you like my surprise ending? I'm saving all the good parts for the next chapters. Also if you guys noticed, there are fewer chapters in this story because I took out all the one-shots and unneeded chapters. None of the story has changed though, so don't worry. I will also be doing a little bit more editing, such as cleaning up errors and such.
