Chapter Two: Acknowledgment
Disclaimer: I don't own this show. If I did, House/Wilson would be more than a 'non'-canon pairing. Not that there is 'canon' on that show...
"...You betrayed him!" She finishes yelling at you, her eyes flashing. "It's not always what you think is right, Wilson." She snaps and you resist the urge to roll your eyes at her. She was annoying you more than usual lately, the look in her eyes mirroring the one House had.
"I'm his friend." You say evenly and she laughs harshly, making you even angrier. "Cameron, I swear-"
"Look what you got back. Look what he's lost. Tell me to my face that you didn't do it for your own good." She hisses and stalks off, not even giving you a chance to do anything. You stare at her back in frustration and sigh. Her refusal to admit that it might be cancer is grating on you, and all you can do is keep trying.
"Don't take it to heart, Wilson," Cuddy says to you softly, her hand on your shoulder. She looks at you in sympathy and you can barely hold her gaze. "Cameron knows that you did this for House; she just can't accept that she wasn't the one to do it." She pulls her hand away, looking down at her feet.
"I did," you whisper and she smiles at you sadly. "I never would have done it to get everything back-Cuddy, he was everything..." She nods and and you look away, not willing to go into that corner of your mind, to awaken those feelings. "I have to go Cuddy. We have a patient dying, you know."
As you walk away, she calls after you, her voice laced with fear and sadness, "Who'll stop House from dying?"
You can't answer that, and you move on, trying not to follow her example and cry.
"House?" You call, looking around in his apartment. The day before had been bad, the patient ended up with the diagnosis. Today a patient had just died on you and you blamed yourself for it. Now the pharmacist just told you that House stole your patient's pills.
"Please House! I can't be too late," you plead, looking around the room. You run when a sound, a groan, can be heard and you turn House over.
The feeling that is rising inside of you makes you realize what House, Cuddy and Cameron felt when they stared at you. They seemed to think you had no experience with the feeling. But you did, and now you know why.
You knew your own share of hatred, oh yes. Especially in the way he stared at you the day you presented him with the deal. But even more so in the way you stood up and walked out, leaving him on the floor, suffering the consequences of his OD.
