The next morning Mac left Elizabeth to sleep and never woke her for school, she thought a day off might help her clear her mind. Mac went to the dining room to find Catlin and Amy fighting over a cereal box.
Amy: I want it
Catlin: No it is mine
Amy: I got here first
Mac: WHAT IS GOING ON IN HERE
Both girls stopped pulling at the box and it fell to the floor, coco pops all over the floor.
Sam came over with a brush and shovel to clear it up
Mac: Sam the girls made this mess they can clear it up
Amy took the brush off Sam and started to sweep it up. Just as Rod came in
Mac: Catlin help your sister
Catlin: NO,
Rod: Catlin what did Mommy ask you to do (His voice was firm and Catlin knew she had to do what her Daddy said)
Catlin: That I have to help Amy
Rod: Then do it
Catlin helped Amy clean up the mess and then she picked up they toy that had fallen out the box. Rod kissed his wife and they sat down at the table
Amy: I want the toy
Catlin: Finders keepers
Amy: But I am older
Catlin: You got the toy last time
Mac and Rod were used to the arguments over who got the toy out the cereal, the twins were a nightmare, and Mac and Rod even had to open the cereal and take it out before the twins would argue when they were little.
Mac stood up and took the toy from Catlin
Mac: None of you will be getting the toy, now sit down and eat your breakfast
Amy sat down and started to eat, where as Catlin being a typical 3 year old threw a tantrum
Catlin: I FOUND IT, IT'S MINE
Mac: All right young lady I think it is time for a time out
Rod and Mac had found the best way to punish Catlin and sometimes Amy was to have a chair called the time out chair and when they are naughty have them sit there. They had only started this last week and Catlin was still resisting to sit in it.
Catlin: NO
She left the dining room and ran away to hide, she ran out of the residence and into the west wing and into Jim's office.
Catlin: Hi Mr Gardner
Jim: Hi Sweetie, does your Mom know you are here
Catlin: No I need to hide from her
Jim: OK stay here,
Jim called to the Residence, it was Rod that answered
Jim: Hi there is a little lady in my office hiding
Rod: Thanks Jim,
Rod went down to the Westwing and found Mac,
Rod: Hi
Mac: I can't find her
Rod: She is in Jim's office
Rod and Mac walked to Jim's officethey could see her feet sticking out from behind a chair
Mac walked over to the chair,
Mac: Catlin come out from there
Catlin: No
Rod: You do not say no to your mother, now come out right now
Catlin stood up
Mac: You know you are not allowed here unless Daddy or I are with you
Catlin: Sorry Mr Gardner
Mac: Daddy is going to take you upstairs and you are going to have a time out
Catlin: NO
Rod: Catlin if you continue this behaviour you will be in the time out chair for a lot longer
Rod carried Catlin back to the Residence and Sat her in the time out chair.
Elizabeth woke up and looked at her clock, she saw that is was 11.30 and she jumped out of bed. She went downstairs to find Catlin sitting on the time out chair and Rod sitting on the couch doing some work.
Catlin: You woke up come and play with me
Catlin ran to her big sister
Rod: Catlin, you are on a time out remember
Catlin: But I want to play with my play doe
Rod: Catlin do as I ask
Catlin: NO
Elizabeth: You know if you sit in it, you will be allowed to go back and play sooner
Catlin did as her older sister said
Elizabeth: Why did you not wake me for school
Rod: Your Mom thought you needed a day off
Elizabeth sat next to Rod
Elizabeth: Has she been in that chair all day
Rod: Most of it, she and Amy were fighting over the toy in the cereal and Catlin decided to go and hide in the West wing instead of coming here. She keeps throwing tantrums all day.
Just then Mac came in,
Mac: Hay I was wondering if we could all have lunch together
Rod: I think that is a wonderful idea
Mac: Great lets go,
Catlin: Can I get off the time out chair now
Rod: Yes, but I want you to be a good girl at Lunch
Catlin: OK Daddy
They had lunch together, before Mac had to go down to work
Elizabeth and Catlin went to the family room and played with her playdoe, they both had a great time together.
Kelly came into Mac's office
Kelly: Ma'am we have a problem
Mac: What is wrong
Kelly: This is the evening post, they have a story on how your kids got drunk in Scotland
Mac: How did they get that story,
Kelly: I found out, it was Emily she sold the story,and another one which is to be published tomorrow about Rachel,
Mac: The public all ready know about that
Kelly: Not from her point of view though.
Mac: I can't believe her, we thought of her as part of this family
Mac called the Whitehouse operator and asked her to put her through to Emily.
Mac: Hello Emily
Emily: Madam President, I thought you might call
Mac: Why did you publish this story,don't you think the kids have been through enough
Emily: I needed money to put me through Law school, and this seemed the best way, I never meant to hurt anyone
Mac: You have betrayed our trust, and if I can't trust you around my family, then you will not see them again
Emily: Yes Ma'am I understand, in fact this whole time I knew what I was going to do and I am very sorry
Mac: Why did you do it, and don't tell me it was for money
Emily: I guess I was jealous of Elizabeth and Catlin, they got to see Mom, I never
Mac thought, how could anyone be jealous of Elizabeth's life, if only she knew what she had been through.
Mac: Don't call here, or come here or go anywhere near my children
Emily: Yes Ma'am.
Mac went to the residence and spoke to Elizabeth, she felt so bad for the poor child, she told her what Emily had did as she would find out the next day when her story was in the paper.
Elizabeth: I don't want to see her again
Mac: She won't come anywhere near you again baby
Elizabeth: I am going to go to my room.
Elizabeth left and went upstairs, she felt so lost and lonely, everyone who comes into her life leaves her she thought. She remembered when her Grandfather had died, her grandmother, her father, her Mom had made her feel so alone, and then chose to leave her and now Emily. She was scared that Mac and Rod would do the same, everyone else had so why were they so different.
