The earth trembled with increasing frequency and might. Gandalf franticly rummaged through towers of books, a small bundle resting in the crook of his arm. Another quake—this time nearly causing the feeble old man to loose his footing. Gandalf didn't think twice of it, though; there was little time left, and he should not spend these last moments consumed in thought.
'This earth on which I stand will soon cease to exist,' he thought, holding the bundle tighter. So many horrible events had occurred within the last few days-- all the horses ran away, a volcano appeared and subsequently erupted on the Shire, Sam never called. So many horrible, horrible events.
At last he found the book he had been searching for. He breathed deeply as his fingers gently cracked open the dusty, creased leather cover. "Gordimium ackelstuff sordiddle num!" he chanted rhythmically over and over. "GORDIMIUM ACKELSTUFF SORDIDDLE NUM!" Middle Earth trembled harder. Gandalf looked from side to side in fear. Why wasn't the charm working?
The floor beneath him cracked and split, revealing a horrific chasm spelling his doom. Gandalf gulped and clutched the bundle tighter. "Gordimium ackelstuff sordiddle num?"
At last a pillar of blue light appeared before him, glimmering like the sun in June—a blue sun. Gandalf's bundle began to twitch and whimper. "Shhh, my pretty," Gandalf cooed. "Soon we will be in our new home." The bundle grew still.
He stepped into the pillar of light and vanished from sight.
