Letting Go
Chapter one
Sharpay Evans gagged slightly as she looked over just in time to see Troy make another loving face at Gabriella. They were sitting impossibly close in their coffee house booth table, as they had been for the past hour.
It wasn't fair. She was here first. It had always been Sharpay and Troy, Troy and Sharpay. Then one day, little Miss Perfect, Gabriella waltzes in, and Sharpay is tossed to the side like yesterday's garbage.
Sharpay was yanked out of her daze by the sound of snapping fingers. She reluctantly left her thoughts, and looked over at her friend Taylor.
"Hello?! SHARPAY!!"
"Sorry Tay", Sharpay apologized, "I was just..um..thinking, that's all"
"No, you were just plotting to break up Troy and Gabriella..again!", Taylor retorted.
Sharpay contemplated denying this accusation, but decided against it.
"Well what else am I supposed to do, Taylor? Just sit here and watch her steal Troy away forever?"
"You could try to just be happy for them. They really love each other."
"Eww. Please, Taylor. I just had breakfast," Sharpay said, as she tried in vain to hold back imaginary vomit. "Let's go. I don't think I can't take much more of this 'Let's stare into each others eyes and sigh happily' crap."
"It's not crap, Sharpay. They're being romantic. Your crazy breakup schemes are never going to work. I wish you would just give up and be happy for Troy. He is your best friend, after all."
"Exactly! He's my best friend! That's why I have to get him to see what I see...that Gabriella is so wrong for him. I won't give up until I succeed in doing just that."
As they made their way out of the coffee shop, Taylor sighed, defeated. She would never be able to change Sharpay's mind. She hated herself for it, but she couldn't help but admire her friend's persistence. Even though her qualities were not currently being used for good, Sharpay was extremely determined. Taylor groaned in annoyance as she noted that mischievous glint in Sharpay's eye. The one that inhabited her features only when she was planning her next outrageous scheme. She couldn't wait to see what crazy thing Sharpay would come up with next.
