Habits and Burdens

Each of the soldiers bore unique burdens- trinkets, tokens, favors, mementos- and each of these burdens bore their own unique heft.

Havoc was well known at HQ for his nicotine habit – it seemed no matter what he was doing, he had that familiar cigarette hanging out of his mouth, and the familiar cloud of smoke hanging about his head. He carried the puff of smoke with him – it was his identity, but also his shroud. Hiding in his cloud of smoke allowed people to get an impression of him without him letting them in. The smoke permeated his clothes, and his pants pocket had a square notch from his cigarette pack he always had with him. It was easier being known as Havoc the Smoker than it might be to be known as anything else.

Cain Feury was the meek little bespectacled soldier. His spectacles were of thick glass, adding a protective barrier over his eyes and the top half of his face. Though they aided his vision they often clouded the vision of others; this barrier often prevented people from getting anything more than a first impression of him, a first impression that said "meek, mousy, quiet, and insecure". He was all right with this. Letting people keep their first impressions was the easiest thing in the world. His glasses allowed him to let people keep their first impression of him without a second glance or thought.

Each soldier bore unique burdens that made them alike, and made them unique. Their burdens made them human.
