My Purpose

Sometimes I long for those days. They were never full of sunshine – well, rarely anyway – but Hikari, dear Hikari, how I'd jump at any second to sink my claws into whatever darkness threatened your delicate innocence. The very darkness I knew from the inside out, the darkness I knew must never be your burden to bear. The exhilaration of at last finding my purpose.

Glowing sunshine warms my eyelids and I inhale slowly. Like one of our rare happier times. In fact...it makes me drowsy...here we walk together, leisurely, in a digital field of dandelion puffs. But I'm still ready...casting suspicious glances, unable to let my guard down, for I know the price of error would be your gently smiling eyes.

A shadow creeps over the saccharine sky and my nose twitches with the sudden drop of a few degrees' temperature. All at once the evil is before us, but I'm ready, Hikari, to protect you--! A swift leap in front of you and I pour all my strength --

Slash!

"Bwuaaah, aahn aaaaaahhnnn!"

I blink.

"Oh my goodness!" My Hikari rushes toward me, but fear is in her eyes. I've failed.

"Tailmon! Did you do this??" She scoops up the bawling child and offers it soothing words. Before listening to what I have to say, she whisks it away in her strong, protective arms.
