After spending hours on end writing 'Some Things Run Too Deep', I've been having 'writing about Snape' withdrawal.
Based on the song 'Part of Me' by Lara Fabian (excellent song, check it out) and the end of GOF when Snape returns to Voldemort after his rebirth. Most of the song lines used are paraphrased to suit the story.
Part of MeSnape stepped out into the night, walking toward a destination he couldn't see in the obscurity. It had been two hours since the Dark Mark had burned for the first time in thirteen years.
Slowly the light emitted by the castle began to fade as he walked, as did the sounds of those who lingered on the grounds whose job it was to wrap up the Tournament. The hem of his cloak danced lightly on the rough path as he walked. His heart was beating ridiculously fast, his breathing coming in an uneven rhythm.
Once he reached the gate and stepped beyond the castle's enchantments, he turned around and glanced at Hogwarts as he Disapparated, wondering if this would be the last time he'd ever see it.
Though he had no fixed idea where exactly Voldemort was, he knew the vile connection of the Dark Mark would guide him to precisely where he would be. Within moments, his surroundings reformed around him. He was standing on an old and unused dirt road in the village Little Hangleton, the Riddle house looming against the dark sky like a bad omen. A single square of light from a second floor window broke the darkness. He had been here many times in what now felt like another life, and that light had always been a beacon to him that represented purpose and belonging. But now, it was a horribly real, painfully tangible reminder of all he had lost.
But Lily was the reason he was here now, Lily and his vow to protect her son – who had been unfortunate enough to witness Voldemort's rebirth. He felt the sting of pity for Harry.
Slowly he began to walk toward the house, refining the story he planned to tell Voldemort to keep him from being killed without a second glance, willing himself to feel nothing.
When you look in my eyes, all you will see is darkness. You'll never see the little space inside my heart where there is light. I won't let you see me, thought Snape. I will hide and I will lie, and never again will you be a part of me.
