Harry had a Potions test the next day and he had to get to studying for it. Harry always chose to put studying off until the last minute. It was his usual routine with school. He knew Snape was going to make the test especially hard, which is why he was studying especially hard as well. As he flipped through the pages of numerous books Harry didn't notice Ron sit down across from him.
"Harry. Can I ask you something?" Ron asked from the other side of the table.
He caught Harry's attention. Harry looked up from the book he was skimming through and nodded to Ron as his signal for Ron to go on.
"Are you and Hermione seeing each other?"
"What! No!" Harry exclaimed then noticing he shouted that out a bit too loud. Why would Ron think that? Did Hermione tell himself? Maybe something about the dream? Did Ron overhear something she was talking about with Ginny? "Why do you ask Ron?"
"Because…Neville said he saw you two sleeping downstairs in the common room. Together…" Ron stammered liking Harry's answer, but still concerned.
Harry thought to himself and then laughed to himself taking off his glasses and rubbing his eyes. After setting his glasses back on his nose he shook his head to Ron.
"That was nothing Ron. I had gone downstairs because I couldn't get any sleep. Hermione was down there. She soon fell asleep and laid on my shoulder. I didn't want to wake her up so I eventually fell asleep too. That is all that was Ron. Don't worry," Harry explained to Ron. Harry wished that Hermione and him were together, but they weren't.
"Oh alright. I was just wondering. Because…I know you know I have feelings for Hermione and all. I just didn't know why…"
"Ron don't worry. I know you like Hermione," Harry said with a small smile to Ron.
Ron nodded to Harry glad with his answer. Ron looked at all of the books Harry had stacked before him. Just the sight of them made Ron grimace at the look of them.
"Well…I shall leave you to your studying," Ron laughed standing up from the table Harry was sitting at.
"Alright. I'll see you at dinner then Ron," Harry said resuming his studies. Out of respect for Ron's feelings for Hermione, Harry had promised him that he would never ask Hermione out or anything like that. At the time Harry made that promise Harry really hadn't developed feelings for Hermione. But over time the feelings grew from friends to more then friends. Every day it seemed harder for Harry to keep that promise. No matter how hard it was however, Harry was going to try his best to uphold that promise. Even if it meant that Hermione never knew of his feelings for her.
Hermione was making her way to the library when she saw Ron step out of it. It wasn't like Ron to ever been in the library. It gave Hermione quite a surprise to see him exiting it.
"Ronald. What were you doing in the library?" Hermione asked as she moved towards him.
Ron spun around and saw Hermione. He looked around and scratched the back of his neck. "Oh I was just visiting with Harry. I was just leaving. Sorry." It wasn't like Ron to get nervous around Hermione, but with everything going on now he started to get nervous around her. "Um…I forgot. I have to meet Fred and George…Somewhere…Bye."
"Oh. Okay Ron. Bye," Hermione said watching Ron scramble away. What was that about?
Hermione turned in to the library seeing Harry studying. Hermione still didn't know if she was ready to talk to Harry about her dream. So she slowly slipped by him and checked the books she had been studying from back in to the library. Every few seconds she would look over her shoulders to see if Harry had spotted her. After she had finished with the librarian Hermione slipped out of the library again. Just as she was making her way out of the library Harry turned around and saw her.
"Hermione," Harry stated her name catching her attention.
Hermione knew she couldn't slip out of this. So she slowly turned around and looked at Harry with a smile. "Hi Harry. Sorry. Didn't see you there."
"Oh it is okay. Just studying for Potions. Are you leaving? If not I was wondering if you might be able to help me with this. We have the Potions test tomorrow and I really need to get this studying done. I really could use your help to understand it," Harry pleaded to her. That was only half of the reason Harry wanted Hermione to stay with him. He also just wanted to spend time with her. Maybe she would tell him more of the dream as time moved on.
Hermione bit her bottom lip not sure what to do. Oh come on! He is your best friend! You're going to let a dream get in the way of that. Stop being silly Hermione. Hermione snapped out of her trance and met Harry's eyes. She slowly nodded putting a smile on her face.
"Of course I will help you Harry," Hermione stated as she took a seat next to Harry looking at the books he had stacked up. "Wow Harry. You really are studying hard aren't you."
"When it comes to a class with Snape, you kind of have to study as hard as possible," Harry said then adding a laugh on to the end of his sentence. He looked over to Hermione and smirked to her.
Hermione looked Harry in the eyes for a moment. Harry was looking back. They stayed in that locked gaze for a minute. Both of there heads spinning with millions of thoughts rushing in at once. Hermione shook her head and broke the gaze.
"Well I guess we better get started shouldn't we," Hermione stammered feeling butterflies beginning to emerge in her stomach.
"Um…Yes we should," Harry said looking back to his book and pushing the book he was reading from closer to Hermione so she could read what he was studying.
As Harry began to speak Hermione got lost in a deep train of thought. She at first was looking down at the book, but soon her eyes began to travel from the text on the page to Harry's eyes once more. She then just thought back to a moment ago when she got lost in his eyes.
What was that? That feeling I had when looking in his eyes. Am I…Harry soon noticed that Hermione wasn't fully with him. Harry looked up to Hermione who was staring at him again. Harry smirked looking around and then letting his jaw drop slightly.
"Hermione. Are you still with me?"
"What! Oh sorry Harry. What were you saying?"
Harry and Hermione soon got to studying again. The whole time the butterflies remained in Hermione's stomach. It was a feeling she hadn't felt for quite some time. The last time she had a feeling such as this was during their fourth year at Hogwarts. At the Yule Ball, when she was dancing with Victor.
Dinner had finished and all of the students were heading up to their common rooms. Ron and Harry were walking ahead together talking amongst themselves. Hermione however was sticking behind them a little ways walking slowly. Soon Ginny took a place at Hermione's side and she looked over to her with curiosity washing over her eyes.
"Hermione? Are you okay?" Ginny inquired.
Hermione looked over to Ginny. She didn't nod or say anything. She simply looked forward taking a deep breath. "Have you ever had a feeling…A feeling like butterflies were in your stomach?"
Ginny giggled and then nodded her head. The first time she met Harry was the first time she had that sort of feeling. "Why yes I have Hermione. Why do you ask?"
"What does that feeling mean? What does it mean to you at least?"
"Well, it usually means, to me at least, that I have a crush. Or I love someone. Who are you having this feeling for?"
"Is that all you have the feeling for?"
"Well…I sometimes get it when I'm called in class. But other then that no. Why?" Ginny asked trying to get something out of Hermione.
"Oh no reason. Just wondering."
"Now Hermione. You can't expect me to believe that can you. You have a crush on someone. Who is it? You must tell me!" Ginny giggled to Hermione.
"I don't have a crush Ginny!" Hermione stated quite firmly.
"Oh…Sorry."
Hermione then shook her head feeling like a jerk. Ginny was just curious. Hermione was sure that if Ginny had a crush on someone then she would want to know as well.
"I'm sorry Ginny. I didn't mean to snap at you like that. I'm just…Not sure if it is a crush or not," Hermione whispered to her then looking up to Harry and Ron biting her bottom lip.
"Well who is it that you are getting this feeling for Hermione?"
Hermione didn't answer. With Harry only walking a few feet ahead of them she didn't want to risk him overhearing their conversation. Hermione just leaned over to Ginny and whispered in to her ear "I'll tell you later." And that was that. The conversation ceased and they just continued their way up to the common room.
As soon as they made their way through the portrait hole some of the boys made their way up to their dormitory including Ron and Harry. Hermione and Ginny sat down on the couch. Ginny curled up on the couch bringing her knees up and wrapping her arms around her legs. Ginny looked over to Hermione with a small smile emerging on her face waiting for Hermione to speak. Hermione looked over to Ginny feeling a little pressure. Hermione's mouth went dry for a moment and she just inhaled deeply and slowly exhaled.
"Alright. You have to promise not to tell anyone. Understand me," Hermione ordered Ginny. If this got out, then things could very well go to hell around Hogwarts. For Hermione at least.
"I promise Hermione. Now who is it!" Ginny exclaimed eagerly.
Hermione bit her lip again and leaned over to Ginny cupping her hand over her mouth. "Harry…" she said in a light whisper. Barely loud enough for Ginny to hear, but she however did pick it up.
Ginny's first reaction was jumping back from Hermione clasping her hand over her mouth. She exhaled deeply in surprise not expecting it to be Harry. Hermione looked around the room gritting her teeth.
"Really! I never thought…" Ginny stammered. Before she could go any further Hermione covered Ginny's mouth. Ginny took a deep breath and nodded to Hermione.
Hermione took her hand back and looked around the room to make sure no one was staring. She then looked back over to Ginny. Ginny was in a little bit of shock but then just giggled.
"Do you think he likes you back Hermione?"
"I am not sure. But I don't want to risk ruining our friendship. So please don't tell anyone. I'm begging you," Hermione pleaded to Ginny.
"Hermione, you have my word. This won't get out. I promise."
Hermione let out a sigh of relief and then a light giggle herself. Hermione still wasn't sure if the feelings were as for a crush on Harry. She was just denying it to herself for a little while, but as the night went on she admitted it to herself.
I have a crush on Harry Potter.
Hermione didn't think Harry had a crush on her. Harry usually had girls flirting with him left and right. Beautiful girls that Harry would be much more obliged to go out with then Hermione. Hermione never saw the beauty in herself.
Harry however did. No matter how many other girls came along, Hermione was always the one that stood out to him.
Harry tossed and turned in his bed still thinking of the dream. Just wondering what it could be about. Curiosity was a major problem with Harry. He always had to know, because not knowing drove him insane.
Hermione soon had fallen asleep in the girl's dormitory and began to have another dream. This time it did not involve Voldemort or Harry even. She was the only one in this dream. The dream was of her running down one of the corridors of Hogwarts. It was shrouded in darkness with the only light shining in from the moon. The sound of her running down the corridor echoed throughout the hallway. The sound becoming louder and louder as she ran along. She took a right in to one of the girl's bathrooms. She was crying she then noticed. She ran to the sinks and clasped them with her hands. Tears falling down her cheeks and they kept forming on her eyelids. Hermione then collapsed on the floor running her hands through her hair and leaning back on the wall behind her. She continued to whip away tears. The sound of her crying becoming much louder as it bounced off the walls.
"How could this happen? Why did this happen?" Hermione whimpered as she continued to cry.
The sound of running came from the hallway outside again. Whoever was running down the hall was running much faster. As they ran along their gasps for breath started to increase.
"Hermione!" yelled a boy from the corridor.
Hermione couldn't recognize the voice. Suddenly a person ran to the entrance of the girl's bathroom. The darkness covered the boy's face making it so Hermione couldn't see him. The boy started to run to Hermione still yelling her name. Hermione rose to her feet whipping away a last tear that was streaming down her face. Just before the boy came in to the moonlight so she could see him Hermione woke up.
Little did she realize that she was also crying in real life. The dream seemed so real that she was also crying for real. Hermione tried to remember the dream seeing if she could recognize the person who was running to her. But it was of no use. The dream had ended too soon.
Hermione whipped away some remaining tears and got out of bed. She grabbed some clothes and went to the showers to wash up for the day. As she made her way to the showers she tried to grasp the dream. Trying to see if she could remember the voice. But the voice had also escaped her. For now she just had to hope that tonight the dream would continue. She could only hope however.
