Harry's eyes slowly opened to the Great Hall. It was shrouded in darkness and a cool air filled the entire room. As Harry took every breath, when he exhaled a cloud of fog shot along out of his mouth.
He looked around disoriented and confused. The last thing he remembered was saying good night to Hermione and going upstairs to his bed. Then everything went black until this point. Harry sat up and managed to stand up although he was very weak for some reason. It was as if his body was drained all of all power. A large feeling of fatigue flushed over his body as he felt his legs wobble under him.
His eyes traveled around the room looking to see if anyone else was in the Great Hall. He was beginning to feel sick to his stomach as he looked around. It was as if his body was failing on him one part at a time.
Harry slowly moved out of the Great Hall. With each step his legs became weaker. It was if his shoes were made of bricks and his legs were made of steel. As he moved out of the Great Hall the air became colder. He looked around for people again, but yet again saw no one.
"Harry…" whispered a voice in the hallway.
Harry looked all around seeing if he could find a source of where the voice was coming from. His head began to pound in pain and his heart felt as if it was sinking down in to his stomach. He never had felt this terrible before except for when he was in the graveyard in his fourth year as he saw Voldemort come back.
Quickly, Harry made a decision to walk down the right side of the hall to see if he could find anyone in the school. It was very odd for no one to be in the halls. Even at night it was strange. Usually some teachers would be walking around, or prefects, or at least Filch would be making his rounds. However, Filch's stench did not fill the air of the hall like it had when he was approaching.
"Come find me Harry," the voice whispered through the halls again. This time when he heard the voice he recalled whose voice it was. The moment he realized whose voice it was it sent a shiver up his spine. It was the voice he had last heard in his nightmares. It was Voldemort who owned the voice that was whispering to Harry.
Harry tried to move faster, but something was holding him back to a slow walk. He wanted to desperately find where this voice was coming from. As he moved along many thoughts rushed through his head filling him with worry. Where is Hermione? Where is Ron? Where are the teachers? How did Voldemort get in to the school? Has he hurt Hermione? Why is Voldemort here? How could he be here?
"Hurry Harry…" Voldemort whispered again.
Harry continued to try to speed up, but a force was holding him back. He tried to fight the force as well as he could, but he was unsuccessful.
Soon Harry led himself outside. He looked around and saw a figure down by the Black Lake. Harry hurried along reaching for his wand. As he reached for it, instead of brushing his hand along the wooden handle of his wand, he instead just felt his back pocket. His wand was not on him. Harry became worried stopping in his tracks. He felt around to find that his wand was not in any of his pockets.
Harry looked up to see if the figure was still in the same place, but he found that it was no longer by the lake. Harry looked around with a worried look. As he looked around another chill shot up his spine. As he turned around he saw the face that haunted his dreams. It was the face of Voldemort. He had a wicked grin on with his wand in hand.
"You found me Harry," Voldemort said in his chilling voice.
Harry stepped back from Voldemort feeling his hand shaking slightly. Without his wand Voldemort could very well kill Harry right now. Harry thought about Hermione and hoped she was okay.
Harry's eyes darted around to see if help would be coming from any direction. However, it seemed as if only Harry and Voldemort remained on the Hogwarts grounds. None of the teachers were at the school. No friends of Harry. It was deserted.
Has everyone left me for dead?
"Oh Harry…" whispered Voldemort.
Harry looked over to where Voldemort was standing to go in to a state of shock. Within one of Voldemort's hands was Hermione who was struggling trying to escape form his grasp. In the other hand was his wand pressed in to Hermione's neck.
"No!" Harry shouted stepping forward reaching out for Hermione.
Voldemort pointed his wand at Harry and uttered Crucio making Harry instantly fall to the ground. Harry twitched and stirred on the ground in pain. Voldemort simply laughed then breaking the spell pointing the wand back to Hermione who had tears forming on her eyelids.
Harry took deep breaths still shaking from the pain he had just gone through. He looked up to Voldemort who was grinning down to Harry and tracing his wand down Hermione's cheek.
"Beautiful girl…For a mudblood," Voldemort hissed and then snickered jamming the wand in to Hermione's neck making her wince and whine in pain.
"Leave her alone!" Harry shouted again from the ground getting to his feet again.
Voldemort glared over to Harry and locked eyes with him. "And who is going to stop me Harry? You? Dumbledore? Oh wait that is right, Dumbledore isn't here to protect you today Harry. It is just me, you, and the mudblood." Voldemort said looking over to Hermione again digging the wand in to her neck again.
Harry looked over to Hermione who closed her eyes in pain again and she whimpered in pain. A tear escaped from her eyelids and streamed down her cheek making it easy for more tears to then escape. Harry didn't know what to do. He didn't have his wand to battle Voldemort with. And if he ran at Voldemort he would just begin to torture Harry again or maybe even kill Hermione.
Harry felt his legs then lock in place until he could figure out a plan. Voldemort grinned to Harry telling that he was feeling hopeless.
"Well Harry…I'll make this quick," Voldemort said glaring at Harry still and looking over to Hermione.
"Make what quick?" Harry said then feeling sick to his stomach. He looked over to Hermione and saw her biting her lip in pain. She then saw Harry's eyes were locked with hers and she mouthed I love you to Harry.
Before he had the chance to mouth the same words back to her Voldemort interrupted. "Killing her. Avada Kedavra!" Voldemort exclaimed with his wand still dug in to Hermione's neck. Harry saw the green beam from Voldemort's wand shoot in to Hermione and right then Harry went cold. Harry saw the life escape from Hermione's eyes in an instant. Her body became limp as Voldemort took his wand out of her neck and let her go.
Tears formed in Harry's eyes and began to escape as he saw Hermione begin to fall to the ground. Her body just collapsed to the ground as if all life had escaped her and she was just a house of cards falling apart. As she collided with the ground there was no emotion in Hermione's eyes. Her face was now a ghostly pale and her eyes were now were just a light gray.
"No!" Harry shouted falling to his knees looking at Hermione on the ground. Voldemort just smiled admiring Hermione's dead body. Harry then got up to his feet running over to Hermione's body taking her face in his hand. He looked in to her eyes brushing her cheek hoping that she may still be alive. "Come on Hermione…Come back…Please…Hermione!" Harry exclaimed weak and hopeless. He still cried as he looked down to the girl he loved.
He couldn't believe this was happening. Hermione couldn't be dead. It was impossible. He ran his hands through her hair denying what just happened in his head. "No…This is a dream…Wake up Harry! Wake up!" Harry ordered himself yet he couldn't bring himself to wake up.
He then just brought Hermione up in his arms and held her close to him as he cried. He rocked back in forward in a state of shock. He muttered to himself as he held Hermione close to him. "I love you Hermione…I love you…I love you…I love you Hermione…"
Harry's sadness then turned to rage knowing who had done this. Voldemort had taken everything from him. First he started with his parents. Now he took Hermione. He didn't know where any of his other friends were. They could all be dead as well. Voldemort could have very well killed them all.
"Damn you!" Harry shouted jumping back at Voldemort to find he was not there. Harry looked all around to not see him anywhere. Harry jumped up to his feet in rage as he looked around.
"Where are you damn it! Come back here! Come back!" Harry shouted around. The only response he got back was his voice echoing inside of the school and off the wilderness outside. "Kill me! You want me! Kill me!" Harry shouted.
Harry then looked back to Hermione who was limp on the ground. Harry's rage subsided as he looked back down to the girl he loved. Harry walked back to Hermione and knelt down next to her. His eyes caught Hermione's hand. He reached for her hand and took hers in his. Her touch was freezing cold.
"I'm so sorry Hermione…I'm so sorry I couldn't save you…" Harry muttered down to Hermione then beginning to burst out crying again. "I am so sorry Hermione!"
The reality around him soon began to escape him as he felt his body began to shake. Suddenly Harry's eyes opened and he jumped up in his bed. He was then brought back to true reality to see the common room. No one was in the room except for Ron who was shaking Harry awake.
"Harry! Wake up!" Ron had been shouting before Harry jumped up from his nightmare.
Harry looked over to Ron. He scrambled for his glasses to make sure it was Ron. As he put them on Ron's face became clearer. Ron's face was flushed with worry. Harry was shaking from the dream still. It had seemed so real. He had never had a dream like the one he just had before.
"Harry! Are you okay?" Ron said breathlessly.
Before Harry could answer Neville ran in to the room with a worried look on his face almost in a bit of panic.
"What is it Neville?" Ron asked examining Neville.
"It's Hermione. She is downstairs in the common room. She needs you Harry. She is crying," Neville panted looking Harry in the eyes.
Harry's eyes trailed over to Ron. Ron's face of worry intensified to greater worry. Now not only had Harry been having a terrible nightmare, but Hermione was breaking down in the common room. Harry jumped up from his bed and threw on some clothes and looked back to Ron seeing that he was also putting on clothes but at a slower pace. Harry didn't wait for Ron and ran downstairs to the common room.
As he looked around the room he saw a red headed girl rubbing another girl's back as her face were in her hands. Harry hurried over recognizing the two girls as Ginny and Hermione. Ginny looked from Hermione to Harry in a bit of worry.
Ginny looked back over to Hermione and leaned down whispering in to her hear, "Harry is here now Hermione…"
Hermione took her face out of her hands looking over to Harry. Her eyes were red and tired. Harry could tell that Hermione had been crying a great deal from the streams that the tears had left on Hermione's cheek. She was breathing heavily and shaking slightly. As her eyes caught Harry's she jumped up from the chair she was sitting at and wrapped her arms around Harry. Tears began to escape from her eyes as she held Harry closely. Harry also wrapped his arms around Hermione and closed his eyes for a moment. He opened them again looking to Ginny who was frowning in worry. Harry nodded to her and Ginny walked away from the two and stood next to her brother Ron who was watching the couple.
"Oh god Harry…It was terrible," Hermione sobbed as she squeezed Harry tight to her.
"What happened Hermione?" Harry said holding her close trying to comfort her.
"I had a nightmare…A terrible nightmare…I was being held by Voldemort…He had a wand pushing in to my neck as he was yelling back and forth with you…Harry…He…He," Hermione sobbed not being able to finish telling Harry what had happened.
"Killed you…"
Hermione pulled back looking in to Harry's eyes a little shocked by how he knew how her dream ended it. "I had the same dream Hermione. It was terrible…I thought I had lost you."
Hermione held Harry close again trying to fight back the tears that still wanted to come out. She sobbed as she held Harry trying to control herself. Harry simply held Hermione close and comforted her as he whispered in to her ear, "It will be okay Hermione…It was just a dream." He was just glad it had turned out to be only a dream. It had seemed so real. So terrifying. He couldn't handle another dream like the one he just had. He hoped he would never have another one. However, he knew this would just be one nightmare in a series of more to come.
Harry pulled back from the hug with Hermione and looked in to her eyes. "We have to go and tell Dumbledore about the dream. Maybe he'll know what we should do," Harry said thinking that if anyone knew what the couple should do it would be Dumbledore.
Hermione slowly nodded to Harry. Harry looked over his shoulder to Ron and Ginny who were standing side by side concerned about the couple. Harry nodded to them and slowly left the common room with Hermione just holding his arm around her still trying to comfort her.
As they made their way to Dumbledore's office they encountered Draco Malfoy. He smiled to the couple and slowly walked up to them. "Oh well would you look at this. Potter and Granger holding each other closely. If I weren't mistaken, I would say you two were a couple. Wouldn't the Prophet love to get that on the front page! Wouldn't they Potter?"
"Shut up Malfoy," Harry said to him softly not feeling like fighting with Malfoy.
They slowly moved past Malfoy and his other friends. They yelled out some remarks about the two, and then about Hermione being a mudblood. As soon as they had turned the corner and Malfoy was behind them Harry looked over to Hermione. She was looking down to her feet.
Harry was about to say something when Hermione interrupted. "Don't…Just don't say anything…" She whispered to him not taking her eyes from the floor.
Harry did as she asked and remained silent until they made it to Dumbledore's office. They were soon waiting outside the door. Harry raised up his hand and knocked on the door. The sound of papers came from inside, and soon footsteps towards the door. Harry looked over to Hermione and kissed her on the cheek before Dumbledore opened the door to the two of them.
"Mr. Potter. Miss Granger. What is it that I can help you two with?" Dumbledore inquired.
"May we come inside sir?" Harry asked the professor.
Dumbledore nodded and moved out of the doorway so Harry and Hermione could move in. As soon as they were in to his office he slowly closed the door behind them examining the two of them. Harry guided Hermione to one of the chairs in front of Dumbledore's desk and as soon as she took a seat he did the same. Dumbledore took his placed across from the two and he offered them a small smile.
"You two seem shaken up. What has happened?" Dumbledore then asked as the smile faded away from his face.
"Well…We both had a nightmare that involved…Us and Voldemort," Harry explained to Dumbledore.
As Harry had his arm around Hermione still he noticed she shivered as he said Voldemort's name. Dumbledore looked over to Hermione sympathetically and then back to Harry. "What happened Harry?"
"Well…I awoke in the Great Hall. The school was empty. There were no professors in the school. There were no students. And there was also no light. It was in complete darkness," Harry said as he told the story to Dumbledore.
Soon he had finished the story and
Dumbledore was stroking his beard in concern. He looked over to
Hermione who had remained silent the whole time Harry told the story.
She had remained silent ever since they had gotten in the office for
a matter of fact. She was still staring down at the floor
motionless.
"Miss Granger…"
Hermione's head slowly strained upward and her eyes looked to Dumbledore. Her eyes were tired from crying earlier in the common room. Her face was pale from thinking about the dream yet again. She wanted to push the dream back in to the depths of her mind, but she could not do so. It was stained in to her memory, and she was afraid that it may never escape from her mind. "Yes professor," she said weakly.
"Are you alright? You seem very shaken up."
"I am…Just…My dreams that I have been having…They have all come true. What if this dream comes true sir? What if I do…Die…" Her voice again turned to a whisper. She barely could state the fact that she might die in her mind.
Harry was looking over to Hermione in great concern, hoping that this time her dream would not come true. That this time it was just a dream and nothing more. He then too looked down to his feet.
Dumbledore looked at Harry and Hermione. He was trying to think of a solution to their problem. After thinking for quite a while he could only come to one conclusion. He leaned forward on his desk setting his elbows on his desk so he could lean forward. "Harry. Hermione."
Both of the students looked up to their headmaster. "I have been trying to think of a way to keep you both safe. Sending you home is defiantly not an option. You'll be safer here then anywhere else. But to ensure your safety from any more of these dreams and your safety from Voldemort…I am afraid you two are going to have to distance yourselves from one another. As far as being a couple goes, I don't think that it should continue. You two can still be friends but…No more walks down to the lake together. No more late nights together. You two have to stay around the school grounds and if you two do wish to go to Hogsmead I want you with several other students."
Neither Harry or Hermione liked the solution, but they couldn't come up with any better answer. Harry looked over to Hermione sadly. She was biting her lip and trying to fight back some tears that wanted to escape.
"I am sorry…But I believe it is the only way," Dumbledore stated sincerely.
"Thank you professor," Hermione said softly before standing up and walking towards Dumbledore's door to leave his office. Harry looked over his shoulder to Hermione and also stood up.
"Thank you sir," Harry said looking down to his feet still.
Harry then walked up behind Hermione. As soon as he closed the door behind him he sped up to Hermione and set his hand on her shoulder. "Hermione…"
"Please Harry…Just don't. You heard what Dumbledore said. We have to distance ourselves…So don't follow me," Hermione ordered Harry still fighting back tears. She then disappeared down the staircase from Dumbledore's office and she moved out of the school down to the lake.
Harry stood outside of Dumbledore's office now looking down to his feet. He was clenching his fists in rage.
"Why do you do this to me? Why do you ruin everything! I am going to kill you! I swear I am going to kill you!" Harry shouted to himself inside his mind. He was cursing Voldemort in a complete state of rage. Voldemort has been the one ruining his life, and he wanted to stop him. He just needed to find a way how.
Yes Harry. Let the hate fill your heart. And your mind. Let the hate consume you!
Harry then calmed down as he heard Voldemort's voice hiss inside his mind. He relaxed his hands and took a deep breath now relaxing and letting the hate escape him. "No…I will not let you get the better of me."
Harry then too walked down the staircase from Dumbledore's office and slowly made his way to the Gryffindor common room. The whole time he was thinking of Hermione.
