Yeah, things progress pretty damned quickly in this one...

I just like skipping years or weeks at a time. Bad habit of mine.

Still no FMA action except for the use of Central for the Orphanage. It'll get there.

Three Years Later

The Central Orphanage cafeteria was now empty save for one nine year old girl reading in the corner.

The cafeteria was dim and dingy, not having been cleaned properly for quite some time.

Dirty bowls with the remnants of an unknown flavored soup lay on the tables, hundreds of them scattered about the large room.

The girl turned a page in the book, her eyes glued to the page as she read each word slowly and carefully.

She flicked a dirty blonde bang out of her face, not deterred from her reading.

The cover of the book was extremely worn and in disrepair.

Suddenly a voice rang out in the cafeteria.

"Kaieri! Get out of the cafeteria right now!" Shouted an elderly nun.

The girl, referred to as Kaieri by the nun, closed the book slowly, yawning .

"Alright , Sister Rose!" Kaieri called out in reply.

Marking her page, Kaieri then snapped the book shut, tucking it under her arm, heading towards the cafeteria exit.

The nun was standing outside the cafeteria, foot tapping in annoyance at Kaieri's tardiness.

"I'm sorry, Sister. I got carried away," Kaieri said with an apologetic grin.

Accepting the apology, the nun remembered why she had come.

Sister Rose's gaze fell to the ground as she clasped her hands together at her middle.

Kaieri's gaze sharpened. "Sister Rose…what's wrong?"

The nun looked up in surprise, stunned at the girl's unnerving perception.

"Your brother…"

Kaieri's eyes widened. "What about Kayin?!" She asked frantically, taking a step forward.

"He ran away last night…But this time all his things are gone."

Kaieri took another step to bring her in front of the nun.

"G-gone?"

Sister Rose nodded sadly. "Yes…I'm sorry."

Kaieri nodded slowly.

She felt the shock seize her, but didn't respond to it. Her mind was numb. Kayin was gone, despite the promise they'd made three years ago.

"He had been getting angrier and angrier lately…He even started yelling at me…" Kaieri murmured quietly, more to herself than to the nun.

Kaieri moved past the nun, her head hung and shoulders slumped.

"We have people out looking for him," the nun offered.

Kaieri turned, shaking her head softly.

"No…they won't find him…"
Sister Rose sighed sadly, knowing that Kaieri was in most likeliness, right.
