Following Third Impact, Shinji has rejected Instrumentality, despite the fact that he will return to a world that has only brought him pain. Regaining consciousness on the outskirts of Tokyo-3, he finds that there is no sign of the damage from the JSSDF attack that exposed the GeoFront. Reuniting with Rei, Asuka and Misato, Shinji struggles to adapt to his new existence.

Post-Rebuild 3.33, Shinji is recovered from the red earth by Asuka, having been condemned and wronged, he will do anything to prove his innocence and take revenge on those who abandoned him and betrayed him, being unable to count and trust anyone, only him same.
