Not Enough

Not Enough

Sharpay Evans was fine.

She was a fine actress, a fine student, and a fine friend—sometimes. Before Zeke and she broke up, she was even a fine girlfriend. She was always fine. But sometimes fine was never good enough.

Gabriella Montez on the other hand, just happened to be brilliant.

She was brilliant during the Winter Musicale. She was a brilliant student. She was a brilliant friend, one of the best friends anyone could ever have. And she was a brilliant girlfriend to the ever-famous basketball man, Troy Bolton.

Sharpay didn't envy Gabriella, not at all. They were complete opposites, from Gabriella's curly dark brown locks to Sharpay's fair skin. Why the hell was Sharpay jealous of someone who was everything she wasn't when Sharpay loved herself as she was?

… Loving herself wasn't enough, because no one else did.

Probably Ryan did, sometimes. He was always there to comfort her when she was at her most vulnerable of moments, like when her parents notice her slight slip of grades, her slight slip in performances. Sharpay always had to be on her toes, and Ryan was there for her when she just needed to break down and actually be human. But Ryan even loved Gabriella more than he loved Sharpay. At least, that was what she got from how he treated her.

The only other person who was nearly as nice to her was Troy. Troy Bolton, the epitome of a Wildcat, who treated her like a human. She had been madly infatuated with him for so long, and Gabriella had him at hello. Sharpay tried everything. But nothing was ever good enough.

Sharpay would always push herself to the edge, but she'd always be just fine. She'd be fine Sharpay, the fine actress, the fine singer, the fine student, the fine girlfriend, the fine friend… the fine person.

She wondered… Would she ever be good enough?
