His past imperfect, his future hopeless, Jack lay in his grave. All he could do was remember losing Gray. If he'd kept Gray safe, this wouldn't have happened. As he gasped awake each time, choking and struggling, he knew it was his fault. He'd done this to Gray. Every breath Jack took was his last, and every last breath was spent praying for forgiveness, hoping Gray could find peace despite all this. So Jack choked on the cold earth again and again, accepting his punishment, hoping this act of revenge might save his brother. Something Jack had failed to do.
