Starts after episode 3x04 of The Originals.

So it's season 3 of the originals and although it's season 7 in TVD, Caroline is not pregnant and not in a relationship with Stefan.

Chapter 1

Next morning after the party the Strix threw for Marcel which the Mikaelsons also attended, everything was calm in the Mikaelson compound. Calm before the storm. Klaus was at the time painting in his studio when there was a loud banging on the front door.

Klaus flashed to the front door and when he opened the door, he saw something that he always thought would come to pass. Visitor from Mystic Falls who yet again needed his blood because somebody got bit by a werewolf. This time it was Stefan who was barely standing in front of him as he had a nasty werewolf bite visible on his neck. What he didn't know, was the fact that delirious Stefan hadn't come to New Orleans alone.

"Hi, Klaus."

He heard her before he saw her coming from the car parked near the front door with a bag in hand.

"Caroline." That was all Klaus could muster up as he just stared her lovingly.

Caroline came to stand next to her friend, letting him use her as support.

"So are you gonna invite us in or are you letting Stefan die out here?" Caroline asked Klaus, annoyed that he was yet again staring her like she was some kind of a goddess.

It took Klaus a second to collect himself as he said, "Oh, yes, where are my manners. Come in, come in."

He led them to the courtyard where Caroline helped Stefan on one of the couches.

"So it seems you have found yourself in a werewolf predicament yet again?" Klaus asked amused.

"Yes, Stefan and Tyler had a little confrontation and it got a little out of hand. I won't get into details, can you just give him some blood and we get out of your hair?" Caroline pleaded with him.

"But what if I want you to be in my hair," Klaus flirted with her.

"Klaus, I'm not doing this with you."

Klaus sighed in surrender, took a glass from the bar, bit in his wrist and let the blood drip to the glass.

"Here you go," Klaus said after he finished his task and gave the glass to Caroline who gave it Stefan.

"Stefan, drink this."

Suddenly Stefan threw the glass on the floor, saying "I don't want your poison, Rebekah."

"He's been hallucinating half of the way here." Caroline said in frustration.

Klaus, who was also frustrated, bit his wrist again and shoved it to Stefan's mouth, not releasing him before he had his fill.

"Okay, now that I have healed our mutual friend, can you do me a favor while Stefan is getting better?" Klaus asked Caroline.

Caroline sighed, "I knew that you wouldn't do anything without wanting something in return. So let's hear it."

"It's not that, it's a favor, not an order. Stefan is gonna need the day and tonight to get better and while you wait, don't you want to spend that time doing something instead of just waiting by his side while he's sleeping?"

"Okay, I'll bite. What would I be doing with the time that is better then just sitting around?"

"Well, anything is better then just sitting around, but what I had in mind was you exploring the city with me," Klaus said as he gave her his trademark smile.

"But what if Stefan wants to explore the city too?"

Klaus wanted to roll his eyes but tried to keep his cool, "Stefan has seen the city many times but you on the other hand need a thorough tour and I happen to be a great tour guide," he smirked at her.

"Okay, as long as I'm already here, I should explore the City."

"Great, that's settled, then. I'll show you where you can freshen up and change your clothes if you want to."

So Klaus led them to a spare bedroom that had it's own bathroom and Stefan was laid to sleep on the bed while Klaus let Caroline go have a shower and change while he went to have a drink.

When Klaus was in the courtyard, drinking at the bar, his brother Elijah came in.

"Niklaus, I take it we have visitors today?"

"Yes, Stefan and Caroline from Mystic Falls," Klaus simply stated.

"Caroline Forbes? Your huge crush?"

"She's more than a mere crush, Elijah," Klaus lamented.

"Whatever you say, Niklaus. Caroline Forbes and Stefan Salvatore? What in god's name do they want with us?"

"With me. They needed my blood. Tyler Lockwood bit Stefan. A little misunderstanding, I gathered."

"And now they are leaving, I assume?" Elijah asked his brother.

"Not yet. Stefan is sleeping it off and Caroline promised to let me show her the city." Klaus smiled like a Cheshire Cat.

"Really?" Elijah asked, a little smile appearing on his lips. Whatever made his brother happy, also made him happy. And if the answer to his prayers was Caroline Forbes, then he was happy for his brother. "That's splendid, isn't it?"

"I guess, but they won't stay for long, as soon as Stefan is back on his feet, they'll leave." Klaus said bitterly, as he gulped another drink.

"And why on earth won't you go to Mystic Falls with them?"

"You mean besides the little baby, sleeping across the street from us? I promised Caroline that I wouldn't set a foot in Mystic Falls ever again."

"Why would you make such a promise?" Elijah inquired.

"That's between me and Caroline." Klaus answered, his voice hoarse, warning his brother not to continue prying.

"Alright, have a nice day with her, brother. I'm off to see Marcel."

"Anything that I should know about?"

"No, I just want to check up on him after last night's events and get the inside scoop."

Caroline and Klaus spent the day exploring the city, Klaus shared his love for art with her, explaining the many paintings they found on Jackson's square and on the streets of New Orleans where street artists had gathered to paint. At the end of the day, when they sat down at Rousseau's, Caroline told Klaus, "You know I have never understood or appreciated art the way you explained it. Don't get me wrong, sure it's pretty, but…that has been that for me. After your passionate explanations I think that I understand it better. So thank you."

She smiled at him and he smiled back at her as he said, "You're welcome."

"That was the main objective of the day and now we drink," he said as he gestured the blonde bartender to come to them.

"Hi, Klaus, what can I get for you and your friend tonight?" Camille asked as she smiled at them.

"Cami, meet my friend Caroline. Caroline, this is Mikaelson family's personal therapist and loyal friend Camille."

"Call me Cami, please. I hate my full name."

"Hi, Cami," Caroline smiled at the other woman, "And you shouldn't hate your name, Cami, it's very pretty."

And then Caroline turned to Klaus, "Another blond with a name starting with C, Klaus?"

Klaus didn't say anything, just smiled sheepishly.

Klaus just turned his attention to Camille long enough to order two glasses of bourbon, "And keep the drinks flowing for us, Cami, we are going to be here for a while."

"What, you are trying to get me drunk to have your way with me? It's not going to work this time."

"This time? When have I ever tried this oldest trick in the book with you, love?" Klaus asked, raising his eyebrows.

"Not me. Hayley. You don't think I know about Hope and how she came to be, Klaus." Caroline frowned.

"Ah, so you know the story. In my defence, I never tried to get her drunk and what happened between us…it wasn't planned." Klaus said bitterly as he gulped down his drink.

"I bet," Caroline said as she stared down at her drink.

"Caroline, as much as I have regretted that night, if it hadn't happened I wouldn't have my daughter who I love so much, almost as much…"

"Her mother?"

"What, no! Not Hayley. Hayley hasn't been anything but a one night stand for me. Besides, she's married now to somebody else."

"Then who were you…oh." Caroline said as realisation hit her. "Shouldn't you love your daughter more than any woman on earth?" Caroline frowned.

"I do, I guess it's just different kind of love."

"I'm sure it is, something I will never feel, but I have accepted my fate."

"Caroline, there are other ways to become a mother than getting pregnant with a stranger's baby."

"Yeah, I know, but I guess I have never pictured anything else than getting pregnant and giving birth to my own flesh and blood."

"Okay, let's change the subject, let's focus on things that we can do, instead of what we can't do as vampires."

"Like what, exactly?"

"Like getting hammered without really getting hammered and suffering that awful hangover, humans tend to suffer."

Caroline laughed as they continued to drink and catch up on the latest events of their lives.

When they finally left Rousseau's it was 3 AM and they stopped by a guest bedroom. Klaus had given her another one so she wouldn't have to share with Stefan.

"So this is where I get off, Klaus. Thank you again for a wonderful time and see you in the morning."

As she turned to open the door, Klaus grabbed her arm, "Not so fast, Caroline."

And then Klaus did something Caroline wasn't expecting although she wanted it to happen, she had to admit. As Klaus kissed her gently, she immediately kissed him back. When they broke apart, neither of them said a word as they retreated to their separate rooms.

In the morning Klaus didn't come to greet them as he found it to be too painful to see her leave him again and so Stefan and Caroline left the compound and the city without seeing anyone in the morning. Or so everyone thought.

A few weeks later Elijah and Klaus decided to invite Lucien, Tristan and Aurora to a Thanksgiving dinner because they wanted to know what their plans were and what they knew about the Serratura that Aurora had told Klaus about during one of their pillow talks. It was a dark object, that could inprison anything live or dead to a room where there would be no escape ever.

"Well, if one wanted to obtain a certain item in, say, a private collection, but one was not invited into the home where said private collection was located, a police investigation could come in handy to remove those items as evidence." Lucien said matter-of-factly.

"I take it you are referring to the medallion?" Elijah asked.

Tristan and Lucien seemed stunned that the Mikaelsons were aware of their plans for the Serratura, but they recovered quickly.

"I suppose it was my sister who shared that bit of information?" Tristan asked.

"Don't blame Aurora, you two are hardly conspiratorial geniuses." Klaus defended Aurora quickly.

Lucien, who was visibly unhappy about Klaus and Aurora's reconciliation, decided to try to turn them against each other.

"Funny story, it turns out, all along, that the medallion was in the hands of Nik's friend Camille, the bartender-slash-therapist. Had to get her arrested in order to search her goodies, so to speak. But, I would never allow any harm to come to her, knowing how much you care about her."

Klaus was surprised as, yes, he cared about his therapist but it wasn't like he was in love with the woman so he didn't see the purpose for those antics.

While Klaus kept staring Lucien, Aurora had to ask them, "Who is this Camille? Who is he to you, Niklaus?"

Klaus now turned to his newly found lover and tried to assure her, "Camille is my therapist and loyal friend to our family. Nothing to get worked up over, love."

"Another friend? Just like that blond perky vampire who came to you a few weeks ago. How many girlfriends do you have, Niklaus?"

All heads turned to look at Aurora as Klaus who already suspected who Aurora was talking about, asked her, "Who the bloody hell are you talking about?"

"Blonde, perky, name's Caroline…? Well no matter, I have her now."

Klaus was visibly upset with Aurora as he hissed at her, "What do you mean, you have her?"

"Don't worry, my love, she's perfectly safe. I put her somewhere, no one can find her."

Klaus was seething in rage as he looked at Elijah for a second who was clearly worried about his brother and then they all kept looking at Aurora, who continued with a big smile on her face, "Yes, rest assured, Caroline is perfectly fine... at the bottom of the ocean."

Klaus looked at Aurora murderously for a second and hitting the table with a fist as he stood up, he grabbed her by the neck, "Tell me that you are bluffing or I make your life a living nightmare."

In a flash Tristan went to Freya who had been sitting quietly until then and put a knife to her throat to warn Klaus, "Harm my sister and I will return the favour."

Elijah then flashed over to Tristan and yanked him away from Freya, pinning him face-first against one of the support beams of the balcony. Lucien smirked at this development and awkwardly sipped his drink before making his snarky reply, "Well, this escalated quickly."

"Shut up, Lucien and Aurora, I asked you a question. Tell me that it isn't true what you just said."

"It is true Niklaus. I have your perky little baby vampire at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean and If you kill me-"

And before anyone had time to react, Tristan's body fell to the ground as Klaus was holding his heart in his hand.

"NOOOOOOO!" Was all Aurora could say as she rushed to her brother's side, crying in rage.

"You bastard, you didn't let me finish. I was saying that if you killed me and my brother, you would never find her as he had a half of the information you need" Aurora told Klaus between sobbing.

Cold fear washed over Klaus as he asked her, "What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about the fact that I have the latitude coordinates of your girlfriend's watery location and only Tristan had the longitude."

Shocked at what she just had said, he did something fast. He lowered himself to where Aurora was by her brother. Took her head in his hands and plucked the information from her head as she was after all thinking about the location just then. So now Klaus had the latitude coordinates for Caroline's location but that wasn't enough he realised. So close, yet so far.

"EVERYONE OUT NOW!" Klaus yelled in rage.

"Niklaus-," Elijah started, obviously worried about his brother's state of mind as he knew very well what Caroline Forbes meant to him.

"Everyone, including you, Elijah!"

Everyone cleared out of the compound and as Aurora started to bolt with her brother's body, Klaus stopped her.

"Not you. You will die for this."

(END OF CHAPTER ONE)

So, I know that Klaus really jumped the gun by killing Tristan but he has so enraged that he couldn't think clearly.
