Who's this weirdo?
"Who's this weirdo?" Katsuki grumbled under his breath.
That was exactly what Shoto wanted to know when the strange dark-haired boy presented himself. Did he follow them? If so, why? Also how long had he been watching them? The possibility of that answer being the whole time they were arguing, made Shoto blush. How embarrassing. A stranger saw that childish spat. He probably saw them as weirdos.
On the other hand, Katsuki was on high alert. He wasn't sure who this brat was, but he hated him. It was their eyes. The way they looked down at him with that snobbish expression. It coated a bitter taste in his mouth. He wanted nothing more than to blast that smug face off. His hands tingled at the thought.
The dark-haired teen smiled innocently as he jumped down from the higher building. He landed effortlessly. Then he casually strolled towards the two taller teens. His gaze was steady and unblinking. There was something about the stranger that made the others' senses stand on edge. Like they were mice that got sighed by a predatory bird wanting to have a little fun.
"You do know using your quirks in public is illegal, right?" The strange teen questioned. "I know you're both minors but that doesn't change that fact. Depending on the severity you could go off with a warning at best. Or sometime in jive at worst."
Instantly, Shoto's heart stopped.
"Mind you're on fucking business. What's wrong with a future hero catching a villain," Katsuki snapped back. He stomped in the dark-haired boy's path with a straightened back. The blonde was taller by a couple of inches, allowing him to easily glare down at the nosey stranger. Growling challengingly with heated eyes.
The strange boy took on the challenge. He stepped forward close enough for their chests to nearly touch. Although he was being looked down on, he didn't act like it. Confidently, he stared at the other's red eyes with a touch of amusement. "Do you have a licence?"
The blonde growled. Like a rabid dog caught by its superior being naughty. He'd never admit to any wrongdoings. He couldn't lie either. That just made his blood boil higher.
Scoffing, the strange boy dared to poke at the explosive one's chest. While he didn't hit the destination button, he certainly got the timer going. The fire sparked in the blonde's eyes and the tremors of pent-up energy in their body. Even their eyes twitched. It was amusing. "Then this would fall under section 5 paragraph 3. Also known as vigilantism also a crime. I hope there is one at that. At the very least... Six months of juvie."
Shoto's face turned pale. He shot a look at Katsuki and exploded: "I can't believe I let you pull me into trouble."
The other two teens watched the green-haired one go into a complete meltdown. Dramatically ranting to the sky, more so to the blonde, about how much he was a bad influence. Why did he have to be stuck with this lunatic as a 'friend'? Why couldn't it be someone normal? At least someone would have common sense and decency not to explode at everything.
And his mother. This poor sweet mother. She'd be heartbroken if he had a criminal record. She doesn't deserve that. Why did he have to give in to his own temper and join in this crazy crusade? What could they do if they found the villain? Even if they won the fight there are still the police and actual licence heroes to deal with after. No matter how you look at it, it only spells trouble. So much unnecessary trouble. He couldn't afford to cause a massive incident so soon after just moving into town...
Did living with Katsuki for so long corrupt him so much that he lost some of his own common sense? What a cruel and unfair world we live in.
Once the teen lost every bit of air in his lungs, he collapsed on all fours. A chillingly gloomy aura wrapped around him as he hung his head in defeat. "Damn you, Katsuki."
The blonde and the dark-haired teen gave each other a look. The dark-haired one looked like he was looking for answers, and the only thing he got was a lazy shrug. Eventually, he shrugged back and stepped over the moping, green-haired teen.
"Also." The dark-haired boy continued their lecture as he stepped closer to the edge of the rooftop. Eyes gazed at the vast landscape of city buildings. They looked back with a smug smile. "Why are you looking up at the rooftops? You'll never find the villain like that."
"What the hell are you talking about? The villain had a cloud quirk. Clearly, the coward flew away. So, a bird's eye view comes the rooftops is the best way to find the bastard." Katsuki augured back. The teen was confident that the villain used their quirk to fly away when that freak storm happened. Heck, they were probably the ones that made the storm increase their chance of escape.
With a challenging rain, the dark-haired teen tilted his head, "Are you sure it was a cloud quirk?"
Katsuki clicked his tongue at the question. Of course, it was a cloud quirk. With the way their body moved so freely like coloured mist, he had no doubt their quirk was something to do with clouds. Then there was that unnatural storm. A quirk was the only explanation for it. What else could it possibly be but a cloud quirk?
With fake disappointment, the dark-haired teen wagged his finger at the blonde's conclusion. "Think, if it was really a cloud quirk why would they bother running on the ground when they could fly?" He started and proceeded to walk across the edge of the building. His strides brimmed with confidence as he gave a simple explanatory speech. Like a seasoned detective ready to amaze the crowd with brilliant deductions.
With begrudging curiosity, Katsuki's eyes followed the dark-haired teen's movements. He hated lectures. This one in particular made him feel like he was being talked down to. The dark-haired teen's sly eyes only made the irritating itch worse. However, his curiosity got the better of him. He'll bite down his pride for a minute just to see where this goes. Although he didn't want to be the only one. So, he kicked the gloomy fake green-haired teen up.
Shoto gave the blonde the stink eye but stood back up. Also, mildly curious about where this was all leading.
"Don't you think it's odd? When the rain suddenly came, they were clearly shocked. Even though it was hard to hear, they did scream during that storm. The mere fact they were surprised speaks volumes. Still, clouds are primarily made of water vapour. Therefore, a little rain shouldn't have bothered them too much. Misshaped their body, but should not harm them. And finally," the teen stopped in his steps and faced his little audience. Then rubbed his gloved fingertips together. In the glint of the sunlight, tiny specks fell from the tips. The teen grinned at the falling specs before turning to face his little audience. "Have you ever felt a granny cloud?"
A switch on a light bulb in Katsuki's head. With each observation spoken that light bulb grew brighter and brighter. Illuminating a clear picture. The truth behind the so-called cloud villain.
As the strange teen went on, Shoto became more and more lost. He only mildly understood the whole water vapour theory. But what's this about a grainy cloud?
The dark-haired teen was quick to notice the green-haired one's confusion. He sighed disappointedly as he gave one final clue. "It's not impossible. You can't really call it a cloud. Sand storms can be quite irritating."
Shoto was still terribly confused, but Katsuki's gears had been turning like a Machine engine with hyper fuel. Slowly, he began to see the bigger picture. "Sand? Wait a fucking second. Then that means." Katsuki turned outward to the landscape. His eyes scanned the pavement below. They travelled around that street he recognised as the place the crime took place. His eyes soon landed on a target as his fingernails dig into his palms.
Noticing the blonde's reaction, the strange teen nodded half impressed. "Ah, so there is a brain in that head of yours." He slipped a hand into his pockets and pulled out the hammer he saved during the storm. It was either very light or the boy was stronger than he looked, as he effortlessly twirled the hammer between his fingertips. Like if it was a pencil. His eyes also focused on the target. An oddly coloured muddled puddle. Spaciously surrounded by lost purses, wallets and other valuables. "That's right. When sand mixes with water it becomes heavy and damp. With a sudden weight difference, it would be hard to maintain form. Instead they'd turn into something like,I don't know, a muddy puddle? Which means you shouldn't be looking up. Rather..."
The strange teen recoiled his hand back and threw the hammer. Like a spinning turbine, the hammer zoomed through the air. Gradually losing its height, before perfectly hitting its target.
Bang!
"Ah! Where the fuck did that come from?"
The once suspicious muddy puddle shifted into a face of sorts. It was like a combination of a slime monster in a sand monster peeking out into the world. Its hollow sockets look down at the hammer. The furious villain slapped it away and slowly slid deeper into the shadows. Hoping no one saw it as it tried to blend in with its surroundings.
Both Shoto's and Katsuki's mouths hinged open. Their eyes widened in disbelief. They've been looking for the wrong type of villain this whole time. In short, they wasted a good chunk of their afternoon on a wild goose chase. For a cloud villain that didn't exist.
The strange teen giggled at their expression. He could predict the type of thoughts running through their minds. Each one was more amusing than the last. He then finished his ductions with a playful bow: "you should have been looking down."
"They're mine!" Katsuki roared. Then blazed himself off the edge. With the villain in his sights, there was no point wasting time. He still got a bet to win.
The remaining two teens watched the blonde quickly zoom to the hiding sand villain. It wasn't long until the villain noticed the oncoming teen. They were really trying to be sneaky when they were roaring the word 'die' over and over again. The villain popped out of their hiding place, picked up what little loot they had left, and then ran as fast as their heavy, sludge body could go.
It didn't stop Katsuki. It only excited him more for the upcoming chase. Like a hungry wolf ready for a hunt.
The strange teen turned to the idle one next to him. "Aren't you going too?" he asked curiously.
Shoto curled into himself with hunched shoulders and crossed arms. His eyes mindlessly followed the flashing lights of Katsuki's quirk, and couldn't help but feel stupid for going along with this stunt. He should have known better. "I don't want to get in trouble again" he murmured.
Curiously, the strange boy hummed. His eyes soon wandered back to that wild blonde chasing after the now panicked sandy villain. He could hear their screams even from this distance. That blonde had impressive reflexes. Combine that with their explosive quirk and they should catch up to that villain in no time. However, catching up to them was different to capturing them.
Those red eyes then wandered back to the quirk trail he followed. The ashy remains of explosions as well as slowly melting ice blocks. Both of these boys had impressive power. However, capturing a villain with this type of slippery quirk required efficient tactics. Only one of their quirks fitted the needed requirements. The stranger shook his head with a small smile. "That won't do. You have the superior quirk for this."
Effortlessly, Shoto found himself suddenly being lifted up. He screamed the sudden movement as his arms flapped about looking for something stable. They ended up hooking themselves around the strange boy's neck. It wasn't long until he realised, he was being a princess carried by a stranger. Who is also smaller than him. What the hell?
Before he could complain, the strange boy launched off the rooftop's edge.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" This was all Shoto could do. He clutched onto the boy for dear life, as the two of them leapt across the rooftops. It was terrifying as it was kind of thrilling. Once the initial fear subsided, Shoto took a peak below him. His heart was once again shot with fear. They were so high. He didn't notice this when he was walking across his thick, safe ice bridges. Or the wide flat surface of the rooftop, but they were so much higher than he thought. One wrong move and they'd be plummeting to their deaths.
Yet somehow this did not affect the dark-haired teen. No, he was laughing. Fear didn't exist in his dictionary. He simply grinned and chuckled like a child in a playground. Effortlessly, he jumped from rooftop to rooftop. All while having a firm grip on the teen in his arms.
They must have had some sort of agility quirk. That was Shoto conclusion. How else would they be so confident? Even with the more intimidatingly wide gaps, the boy did not flinch. In fact, he sped up more before taking a grand leap of fate. Then landed nearly perfectly on the other side. The fear in Shoto simmered down to a: 'hopefully, I wouldn't die' type of anxiety and he allowed his body to relax. Whether this was a good idea or not, he decided to leave his life in the hands of this stranger.
Eventually, Shoto heard the obvious explosions of Katsuki's quirk. Along with his signature mantra of 'die'. He instantly cringed and twisted his head at where it was coming from.
About half a mile off to the side of them was the explosive blonde. His deranged cackles boomed loudly as he bounced through rooftops. He was faster than them yet somehow, they seem to be at the same pace as each other. Probably because of perspective or something. He wasn't so sure. What he was sure about was that the distance between them was getting longer by the second. The villain was over there. Why are they moving away in this direction?
"We are cutting off their escape route." The dark-haired teen suddenly answered. It made the boy in his arms jump. He gave him a wide eye look that says: 'did you just read my mind?' The dark-haired teen chuckled at their bewilderment. "The villain is currently in a hard spot. This area is highly populated with civilians. Many of the alleyways lead to dead ends. It doesn't help that he's currently chased by an explosive pomeranian."
Shoto chuckled at the mental image. Katsuki as yapping pomeranian pup. He sure had the attitude for it and the hair to match.
"This limits their options for escape routes. With all the water the villain's body obsored it would slow them down. Also be hard to climb pipe lines. Their best bet is to escape down a sewer drain or a manhole. Unfortunately for them, with the direction they're running in, there's only one way they can go." The dark-haired teen picked up his speed, making Shoto yelp at the sudden jerking motion. The movements were more zigzagged as he dodged a few rooftop obstacles. A laundry line, pipes, high wall fencing, one bird nest, until halting to fire escape.
Slightly dazed, Shoto assumed the boy would finally put him down. No.
Instead, the stranger whipped his body around their own until he held him in a piggyback position. He gave one single warning to hold on tight before sliding down the ladder as if it was a fireman pole. Luckily, the dark-haired teen had gloves on. Otherwise that would cause some nasty burn marks. In no time at all, they made it to the solid ground. They then dashed out of the alleyway with Shoto barely keeping track of what was going on anymore. That's when Shoto spotted that manhole that the stranger predicted earlier.
It wasn't long until he heard the screaming cries of a villain trying to escape an oncoming bomb. Exactly how the strange boy predicted. The sand villain sloppily ran towards them with hectic moments as their body melded to form that didn't look human. They looked smaller than the size they were before. Probably using its own body as a projectile. A weak defence to fend off their explosive predator. However, there was desperation in their eyes. A certain gleam that said they would kill if anything else goes wrong that day. In their sights was yet another obstacle.
"Move!" The villain roared. More monstrously than man.
Shoto was shaking in his boots. "Now what?" he squeaked.
The question was left semi-unanswered when the strange boy forcefully positioned his body in front of him. He then lifted his right arm up. Even readjusted his fingers so that his palm was open wide. Shoto wasn't so sure what to make of it, but the teen was so quick and forceful that he just went along with it.
Suddenly, the dark-haired teen leap forward and curled into the taller one's chest. "Help! Villain!"
Shoto's eyes shot up wide. Why is this kid freaking out now? He was the one that put them into this mess. If anyone should have been screaming. It should be Shoto. He was blatantly kidnapped by this strange kid and now was forced to face a villain. One that looks like murder is an option on their list. Where was their fearlessness from before!
There was no time to ponder or cry. The villain was coming right at them, demanding that they move or else. He had no time to think. His body wanted to run but this weird teen kept holding on to him. Cementing him in place with their grip strength alone. Did they have some kind of strength quirk too?
A sudden chill run down his spine. Is this the end? With some clearly insane stranger pinning him in place with his arm up for some reason. All while being run down by a villain he didn't even want to mess with. Then he thought about his mother. She was expecting him home. Safe and sound. In one uninjured piece. He could only imagine the type of pain she'd be in if she turned on the news. Then saw her foolish son on screen with some horrible end. No, he couldn't let that happen. He shouldn't cause her any more trouble.
Soon, the fake green-haired boy's panic spiked. His arm started to form an ice shell around it. Yet that was all it was. A shell. The boy's mind kept repeating the same line. Keep in control. Don't cause trouble.
The dark-haired teen clicked their tongue at the result. This green one was clearly holding himself back. He didn't care why. From the sounds of the screams and explosions coming in faster, it was clear time was running out. So, he gave a little push by jabbing shapely at the boy's ice side with a pointed hand.
The sudden jolt of pain triggered something in Shoto. It was like his own detonation button was pushed. His body's pent-up power suddenly exploded from his entire left side. His hand fired with a flurry of ice. Even his legs couldn't handle the pressure as the ice shards popped his right shoes like a balloon with a clutter of knives inside it. The overwhelming wave of ice shocked the villain in place. There was no chance to run. In a matter of seconds, the ice froze them in a solid block.
Sweat pouring down his back neck, Shoto stared at the iced villain. Half-fearful yet half-disappointed expression. Barely a week into this new town and he's already caused a scene. "I'm in so much trouble."
"Not quite." The strange boy corrected with a smile. "Section 5 paragraph 5. If the user is threatened with intentional harm, it is acceptable for them to use their quirk as an act of self-defence. I say a villain charging right at us safely counts as self-defence."
Shoto opened his mouth in awe. Now that the life-or-death situation was over, he was allowed to process what they just did. They capture a villain. All on their own. Even better he won't get in trouble for this. Thank you, self-dense law.
Meanwhile. Katsuki watched from a distance. Is wild hunt was suddenly stolen right in front of him. It took some time to process it all. He was just about to blast that and the villain to smithereens but the ice came and engulfed them first. The fucking spiky, ice thing nearly blocked the entire entranceway of the alley. He still saw beyond it and he knew who caused it. That alone should make him furious. However, something else made his blood boil hotter. Because perfect prince charming wasn't the one that beat him. It was that weirdo who butted into his business and took his target. That frustrated him far more.
"That fucking rich nerd."
AN: A little early but so far no one has seen through my plans. Let us see if this continues.
