Luke wasn't due into the Diner until the lunch shift. Lane had asked for the night off and offered to open for him instead. But Luke never felt the need to stay in bed if Lorelai wasn't there so he was up and cleaning the house while she was out with Rory and the kids at camp. Rory had been spending time at the house with them so he was tidying up in her room. When he took the trash can to empty it something caught his eye causing him to gasp and sit on the edge of her bed. He picked up the empty cardboard box and inspected it, in disbelief as to what he was seeing. He scoured the rest of the bin and only found tissues, obviously meant to cover up this box.
He was struggling with what to do with this, his instinct was to call Lorelai, but he knew this wasn't something to talk about on the phone.

Logan had set up a romantic scene in his New York apartment. There were flowers and candles on most surfaces. A bottle of her favourite wine and two plates with silver covers on the table. It was the Saturday after her graduation from Yale and all the other celebrations were over. He had asked her to reserve this weekend for him. He had sent her and her Mom to have a spa day before she was to join him at the apartment for a romantic dinner.

Lorelai was filled with mixed emotions, she had just spent a great day with Rory, which always made her happy. But it was difficult to spend all this time with her daughter knowing that Logan was planning to propose tonight and she couldn't say anything. All day she was torn between wanting to give Rory the heads up and really talk it through with her so Rory could go in prepared and with not wanting to steal this moment from her daughter. Getting proposed to should be a once in a lifetime thing, obviously not for Lorelai, but it was for some people. So she couldn't bring herself to deprive her daughter of a potential iconic story to tell for the rest of her life. So despite having a ninety minute massage she felt anxious as all hell. She walked into her house to be greeted by the wonderful scent of her husband's cooking. She was surprised that the kids didn't greet her.
"Hello? I'm back," she called out.
Luke emerged from the kitchen with a smile and a glass of wine, "Hey. I pawned the kids off on Sookie and Jackson for the night. It's just you and me," he explained before planting a sweet kiss on her.
"Wow! What did I do to deserve this?" She asked while following him to the kitchen. She placed her wine glass on the table and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge.
"I know that you must have had a hard time not talking to Rory about our visit from Logan. I just wanted you to rest, well and of course I'm never going to pass up an opportunity to be alone with you." He kissed her again when he placed a plate of lasagna in front of her.
"I like the sound of that," she winked.
"Aand to be honest, there's something that I wanted to talk to you about without getting interrupted."
"Oooh, I'm intrigued."
Luke took a deep breath and jumped in, "I think Rory might say yes to Logan for all the wrong reasons."
Lorelai suddenly looked really serious, this wasn't like Luke. He was always so supportive of Rory's choices, even when Lorelai wasn't so sure. "Why would you say that?"
Luke shifted in his seat and stabbed at his salad, "I found something today when I was cleaning up."
"Found something?"
"I was emptying the garbage and found an empty box. An empty box from a pregnancy test. Do you think Logan knows about it? Do you think that's why he's proposing? I can't believe this? Did you know? Why didn't you tell me?" He had gotten himself worked up into a rant and was now out of his seat pacing.
Lorelai stood up and put her hands on his back trying to calm him.
"Hon, it will be okay," Lorelai assured him.
"I don't want her to marry him because of this," Luke said softly. "She'll do it just so your parents won't be disappointed. But she should only marry him if she loves him. Right?" He had turned to face the love of his life, the only woman who ever made him even think he would want to spend the rest of his life with.
She caressed his cheek and he let out a sigh.
"How are you so calm?" Luke asked.

"Logan, you're serious?" Rory was in shock. She was happily taken aback by the proposal, there were almost as many emotions running through her as there were thoughts running through her head.
Logan got off his knee and slid onto the couch beside her, "I love you, Rory. I know you love me. You're the only woman I've ever been faithful to. Hell, you're the only woman I've ever seriously dated. I can't imagine my life without you. And now that I got this job in California and you're done school it feels like a new beginning for both of us, one we can take on together. I know you can get a job out there and we can be our own people, away from our families and their expectations or judgements. Just you and me, doesn't that sound great?"
"It sounds like a dream, but Logan -"
"No! No buts," Logan pounced. "Just think about it! Let's finish our romantic evening, then I'll show you pictures of the house I found and we can look up things that are in the area. Please think about it, make a Pro/Con List"
"Logan," she said in a warning tone.
"No, I'm serious. I think the Pros will come out in my favour. You love me," he kissed her.
Rory softly moaned, "Of course I love you."
"So you'll marry me?"
"Let's just enjoy the night, I'll make a list in the morning while you're still asleep."

"Wait, what?" Luke asked, stunned.
"I'm sorry, I was going to tell you," Lorelai said.
"How long have you known?"
They had abandoned their dinner and were on the couch.
"Hon, it wasn't that I didn't want to tell you. I just wanted to be 100% sure. Why stress you out if I didn't have to?"
"When will you be sure?"
"I have an appointment to see the doctor first thing on Monday. But according to the home test that I did I'm pregnant. We're having a baby!"
Luke turned to face Lorelai and she was surprised to see the biggest smile on his face.
"We're having a baby?" He asked excitedly. "Why would you think I would stress out? This is great news!"
"It is?" Lorelai worried. "We have two kids under the age of six. You're sure that you aren't freaked out or upset?"
"You know I love being a Dad, right? Are you sure you're not the one freaking out and putting it on me?"
Lorelai sighed and slumped her shoulders, "I might be a little freaked out. This wasn't planned."
"Unless you were planning it without me, I'm aware it wasn't planned. But surprises can be happy surprises, right? Talk to me, what's wrong?"
"Luke, don't you remember when I was pregnant with Danny? It was called a geriatric pregnancy. Dr. Sanders said there could be complications and that there is a higher chance that he would have down's syndrome or -"
"But Danny is fine. There were no complications and Dr. Sanders said you had a healthy pregnancy of a twenty year old. Everything will be fine."
"Remember when you used to be grumpy and pessimistic all the time? What happened to that?"
Luke took her face in his hands, "I married the love of my life and she gave me a beautiful family. I'm living a life now that I think my parents would be proud of. I'm happy. Is that okay with you?"
She laughed, "I guess that's okay. You really think everything is going to work out?"
"I really do."

Logan woke up the next morning to discover Rory had gone. She left a note saying she needed time to think and that she was going to Stars Hollow.
"This can't be good," Logan sighed. He decided to call Colin and Finn for a trip to Vegas.
