It's been a while since I last updated this fanfiction. I hope you're all doing well out there. I don't have much to say except this will likely be my last update on this story. It's been years since I last uploaded, and although I've written notes on what'll happen in the later chapters, I don't feel that fire to write it like I once had. I've simply gotten bored. Sorry about that, everyone.
Below is something I began writing after I posted the 5th chapter. It isn't much, but I hope you enjoy it. I laughed as I read it because I completely forgot about it. It's strange when you go back and read something you wrote long ago. I found myself saying, "Did I actually write this?" or "That's embarrassing. What was I thinking?!" It's definitely a surprise.
On another note. I'm writing a high fantasy story for fun, mainly practicing for another story I have planned. I plan for this story to be on the mature side, so it may not be for everyone. If you're interested, check it out. I'd love to know what you think of it. It's called "Fiend" on Royalroad.
Thank you!
Energetic, she skipped down the hallway while humming a tune to herself. The vibration of her voice rings through the beautifully constructed hallway. Creating a melody that would be soothing to all who heard it. While performing her song, she looks in awe at the hallway, always appreciating its endless beauty. None could have crafted such a magnificent place except for her masters, the Supreme Beings. How it warms her heart to be here once again. Her duty requires her to monitor a particular important village outside the Great Tomb of Nazarick for what feels like forever to her. She makes sure to never slack off while on the job because she would not want to upset her master and face his eerie again. She once made the mistake of misunderstanding his intentions concerning her duty, which upset her master, making him livid beyond measure. She only survived his wrath because he was merciful. On the bright side, she got to learn something new about her master! She already knew he was the most powerful and intelligent being within Nazarick, but his insight was immeasurable! The respect she feels for her master is all the more strengthened since that time! And now she has the opportunity to assist in the name of her master's child! The joy she feels is unending and bubbles within her heart to such a degree she can't help but skip through the hallway. Nearing her destination, she hears an audible shout from behind two massive marble doors with intricate designs engraved within them. Getting closer, she perks up her ears and listens closely to voices behind the doors.
"WHAAAT, WHY WON'T YOU TELL ME?!"
"..."
"GEER~ YOU'RE STILL UPSET ABOUT THAT?! IT'S ALL IN THE PAST! AT LEAST LET ME SWITCH PLACES WITH YOU JUST ONE TIME?!"
"..."
"DON'T YOU GIVE ME THAT! I SAID I WAS SORRY!"
"..."
"FINE, BE THAT WAY. I'LL JUST HAVE TO DESTROY YOU AND THEN REPLACE YOU WITHOUT AINZ-SAMA NOTICING!"
"..."
Hearing the seemingly one-sided shouting coming from the other side of the door, she figures her sister is about to attack him again. Thinking to herself, she wonders if she should intervene… If she doesn't, then her sister will get in big trouble, but if she does, her sister will start moping again… This is a very tough decision, she thinks to herself… While mulling over the best course of action, she feels a strong wave of killing intent permeating from behind the door. If she lets her sister go through with it, she'll make their master upset, and he may not forgive her, especially during this precious time. Making her decision, she activates her [Complete Invisibility] and then sneaks into the room. Looking over at the bath, she sees her sister, Solution, preparing to swallow her victim whole. Sneaking up behind her, she kept her eyes on her target's weak point and then went in for the attack!
*Boing-boing~*
"Guah?! Geer~ Lupusregina! How did you get in here?!"
"Hehe~ I see you've let your guard down Sol-chan! Normally you wouldn't let me sneak up on you-su."
"Hmph, unhand me now. I have unfinished business to attend to."
Once again preparing to swallow her victim, Solution readies her attack but is interrupted once again as Lupusrengina attacks again.
*Boing-boing~*
"Guah! Stop that!"
"Only if you stop-su~ You know, Ainz-sama will get upset if you do that to poor Miyo-chan. He's only doing his job-su~."
"That's not what this is about! He simply won't tell me about Ainz-sama's bath times, and nor will he let me switch places with him!"
"..."
"You shut up and die!"
*Boing-boing~*
"Guah!"
"Well, never mind that for now, okay. We have important business to attend to! It is almost time to collect the voting boxes. Pestonya-sama is hoping we'll collect the box for her, okay-su~?"
"AH?!"
"Don't tell me you forgot-su~."
"N-no I didn't! Well, then, it looks like I'll have to kill you another time, Miyoshi. Luck is on your side that the naming of the heir of Nazarick is more important, hmph!"
"Oh, well, bye-bye Miyo-chan! I hope you picked the same name as me-su!~"
Turning around, Solution walks out of the room; hurrying behind her, Lupusrengina closes the door.
"Siiigh~ those two are terrible."
As the two make their way to the cafeteria to find Narberal, who is waiting for them. Looking over at Solution, who seems to be in deep thought, Lupusrengina laughs to herself aloud. Looking over Solution makes a curious face.
"What's so funny?"
"You look upset-su~ I can understand why you would want Miyo-chan's job, but Sol-chan, you have one already."
"That is beside the point. I simply wish to serve Ainz-sama during his baths as well as outside of them, nothing more."
"Hmm~ you have a point there, hehe, but taking Miyo-chan's job is kind of mean~"
"I don't want his job; switching places at least once is more than enough, yet he refuses!"
"Ohhh~ It probably has to do with you kidnapping him that one time, hehe."
"That was in the past. Can he not simply get over it?"
"Maybe, but you did kind of scare him. So, what happened next?"
"Well, I then asked him to at least tell me about Ainz-sama bath times, yet he refused me again! He said those times are only for Ainz-sama's knowledge."
"He makes a good point-su~"
"Grrrr"
"Anyway, you tried to kill him again, he may not want to help you at all anymore-su~"
"..."
"Something tells me you just figured that out, hehehe~"
Soon they arrive at the cafeteria, where they see Narberal waiting at the far end at a table. Walking through the tabling area, the two hear cheers from the other fellow maids, Lupusrengina waves at them, eliciting more energetic cheers. Sitting at the table with Narberal are Entoma, Shizu, and Yuri. As the two approach, they take their sears along with them.
"I'm back Nar-chan!"
"Good. Now that we are all here, we must begin collecting the voting boxes. Pestonia-sama has given me the location of all the boxes, one being here in the cafeteria. I will collect that one. Once we have all the boxes, we'll then help Pestonia-sama sort through the names. Any questions? Yes, Lupesrengina?"
"How come Yuri-nee isn't in charge of this operation?"
"Coincidence."
"Yes, coincidence."
Says Yuri as she adjusts her glasses, blank-faced.
"Ahhh, hehe, okay-su~"
"Anything else?" Narberal says, briefly glancing around. "Good; let us leave immediately so that we can collect the boxes on time."
"Okaaaay~"
""Yes.""
"Hm."
"Roger."
Stepping up to the all too familiar wooden doors, he opens them and steps into the room, exuding confidence like no other. His very presence demands attention as all the adventurers lounging around the building turn their heads toward him. Taking a closer look at their face, he sees nothing but respect in their eyes. Giving a slight nod of acknowledgment, he steps further into the building, passing by a few adventurers who seem to be leaving to complete a request. The group of adventurers gives him a wide berth as they pass by, not wanting to get in his way. Walking over to the rest, bored, he stops in front of it, perusing its various options.
Okay, I've finally made it out of Nazarick. Now I just need to find a job that will give me an excuse to be away for a little while… Crap, I still can't fully read the language here! I guess I could try asking the reception lady again, but she may end up calling Ainzach. I'm really not in the mood to speak with that man. Ugh, I suppose I can grab a random request, but I would look foolish and inconsiderate of the lower-ranked adventurers if I did such a thing. Come to think of it, I forgot to bring Narberal with me! Nono, wait a minute; if I had done that, I wouldn't be able to get any alone time. It was hard enough just getting away as is. The dumb excuse I gave albedo just barely worked after all.
"Ainz-sama, you are planning to pose as Momon again?"
"Ahem.Y-yes, Albedo, I-ah, must embark on my three-day journey of solitude?"
"Three day journey?"
"Y-yes! That is what I said! Every man must be able to clear his head and ponder their future when they are about to have an heir. As such, I must do the same, alone... by myself."
"B-but Ainz-sama, you mustn't go out alone! I will select a suitable escort for you!"
"W-wait Albedo! Do not worry. I have already done so; there is no need to do such a thing!"
"Ah, is that so?"
"Yes, that is so. In the meantime, why do you plan to have a baby shower with everyone?"
"B-baby shower?~"
"Yes, it is a celebration for the mother who is about to have a child. I believe it would benefit you and Shalltear to have one together. Draw up plans for one with her and the other Guardians while I am gone."
"Yes, Ainz-sama! It shall be done!"
Oh, right, the baby shower thing. I completely forgot about that. Hopefully, this doesn't pose to be of a problem for them. Anyway, I suppose I have no choice but to ask the receptionist for help. I may even have to deal with Ainzach later as well. It's settled; let's get this over with.
Stepping forward, Ainz makes his way toward the reception desk with brisk movements. Catching the receptionist's attention, who's been keeping a nervous and watchful eye on him as he looks over the quest board. After walking up to the counter, Ainz addresses the receptionist.
"Hello, I am looking for a quest that is befitting my rank. Might you have any available other than on the board?"
"H-hello, sir, Momon! I-I'm sorry to inform you, but there are no other quests available as of yet! All that you see on the board are for Mythril and b-below!"
"Hmm, I see that is a shame. " Ainz says while crossing his arms into a thinking pose.
"AH-if you would please excuse me, I have been told to inform Master Ainzach of your presence whenever you arrive. I will be back momentarily!"
"W-wait! I don't want to bother the guild master. I'm sure he's busy with a lot of work!"
Ainz says in a flustered voice, unable to completely hide the worry in his voice, prompting the receptionist to stop in her tracks, unsure of what she should do.
Looks like I shouldn't ask that. She has an apprehensive look on her face. I'll try to get her to just give me a tough mythril quest and leave as soon as possible. I'm drawing too much attention as is by just standing here.
"Ahem, would you give me the toughest mythril quest available? I'm sure that would be more than enough. I do not wish to bother Ainzach simply because I am here."
"Y-yes, I can do that." she says with a nervous expression written on her face. She slowly walks over to the quest log and retrieves a newly placed quest that was freshly made the same day. Placing the paper on the reception desk in front of Ainz.
"Here you are sir; this quest was made earlier today. It was marked as urgent, but the reward wasn't proportional to the quest's difficulty and location."
I still can't read any of that! I should have brought Nabe just for this. I don't know what the request is, but I guess I'll take it on. It'll give me an excuse to leave quickly.
Placing his hand on his chin, Ainz thinks to himself briefly.
"Ah, yes, I see. It shouldn't be a problem."
Surprised, the receptionist blinks a few times, expecting a much different reaction. Normally most adventurers would turn down such an unreasonable request.
"Is that so? I will finalize the quest for you. Thank you for your kindness, sir, Momon. W-will you part immediately? I can quickly grab the guild master so he can see you off!"
Before the receptionist could rush to find Ainzach, Ainz reached out and grabbed her by the hand.
"Worry not, miss. I will return immediately after the quest is completed. I will have time to speak with Ainzach then. This request requires immediate action."
Although her feelings were still a little rattled, the receptionist calmed down a little and reluctantly agreed with Momonga. Despite her concerns, she was happy to know the great Momon was willing to help someone in need out of the goodness of his heart. She hadn't met other adamantine adventurers, but she was sure they were as kind as Momon.
