The guilt felt worse than the pain from her injuries. At least with her physical injuries a bit of anesthetic and some healing and she didn't feel any pain, but the guilt gnawed at her, keeping her awake. She couldn't remember the last time that she had slept, and Charlie's scent was starting to fade from her bed, which only compounded the guilt. She should be out there tearing apart countries looking for her mate, instead of being forced to lay in bed, attempting to get well.

Her parents hovered, Sansa gave her those annoying looks of pity and she felt so utterly useless. Her mate's family had sent out search parties, but there was only so much that they could do. It wasn't as if the people who had taken her, would invite the search parties into their home. Magic had taken her, and magic was nearly impossible to track.

"Move it! You useless slug!"

Santana's ears flick towards the noise and she turns to the window from where she is still bed ridden and she glances around Charlie's room, before slowly getting up and limping towards the large windows. She tilts her head when she sees Kara attempting to pull Hiccup along with her and she immediately bares her teeth. Hiccup was her mate's drake, and she suspected that he missed her just as much as she missed her mate.

"Look, it's been a week, nearly two you need to get up and start hunting her down. No one is going to stop an annoyed Drake looking for its owner!" Kara insists as she tries to force Hiccup to take a few steps forward, but he's currently planted on the ground, refusing to budge any further. He lets out a loud groan before blowing smoke at Kara.

Santana snorted, pleased with Hiccup's defiance, but Kara had a point. A drake, especially one as intelligent as Hiccup, should have been one of the main tools that the Imperial family should have used to hunt for Charlie. Hiccup probably had far sharper senses than she did, which meant that he would be an asset, if they could get his willful nature under control. But Charlie was the only one who could manage Hiccup, and even then she wasn't the best at managing her pet Drake. With a bit of effort she manages to get the window open and leans out of it, "What are you doing?"

Kara's back goes rigid, as if she's been caught doing something that she shouldn't and she looks around before finally looking up to spot Santana. It's only then that she relaxes, Santana probably wasn't going to rat her out to the rest of the Fabrays or Lena. "Trying to get Hiccup ready to head into Elven territory, to look for his dumbass owner."

"Why are you so certain that it's the elves?" Santana questions, it was the one thing that Kara seemed to harp on, but no one was listening to her, without any proof.

"Process of elimination mostly, I know that we don't have her. I'm not sure what we'd even do with her if we did, she'd drink us out of the mountain. The dragon's don't have her either, otherwise her grandmother would know. That leaves the beastkin territories, the Holy Empire and the elves. I doubt that the beastkin would kidnap your mate, especially when you were set to become queen, so really it leaves both the Holy Empire and the elves."

"The Holy Empire just found out that the Royal Family isn't completely human, and they are human supremacists."

"Yeah, but they hate magic. Especially wild elven magic, and that is what took her," Kara points out. "If they wanted Charlie they would have sent an inquisitor that wasn't her grandfather, who would have burned the entire place down in a holy fire, cleansing the area of beasts and humans alike."

"Why would the elves want Charlie?"

"Charlie hates the elves nearly as much as I do. Neither one of us trust them, the knife-eared bastards."

"That doesn't exactly prove—"

"Joffrey is a sadistic little shit, who she recently humiliated in front of everyone. It was funny. It will always be funny, but it won't be funny when he starts to torture her for humiliating him. I mean he's a fucking idiot. Charlie has a tendency to get herself unstuck from sticky situation and just murder a bunch of people."

"Well if she managed to free herself—"

"I don't think she has or she would have sent word, or we would have heard that the Elven forest is currently on fire," Kara interrupts as Hiccup lets out another low groan before getting up and climbing up the wall so that he could rest his head near Charlie's window, as he allows Santana to pat him absentmindedly. "Tell him to take me to the Elven forest, and let him know that he can burn the entire forest down and eat a bunch of elves!"

Santana stares at Kara as she strokes the underside of Hiccup's large head, perhaps he respected her for being Charlie's mate, but either way he seemed relatively docile around her. He hadn't even attempted to nip her even once. "That doesn't sound like a treat. There's hardly any meat on the elves, at least he'd be able to get drunk if he ate a bunch of dwarves, might hack up a hairball or two, but that would be amusing."

Kara narrowed her eyes as Hiccup turned to her and she took a step back. "Well at least I can see why she fell in love with you, what do you have against dwarves?"

"Nothing, my best friend is a dwarf. But my mate doesn't seem to like you very much and I don't trust you not to murder her while she's weak."

"Why the fuck would I murder her? She's a dear—well she was a dear friend, and she is the only person who I can drink and fight with! Besides, I am attempting to rescue her."

"So you can make fun of her!"

"If I got captured by elves and couldn't get free, she'd rescue me and mock me for an eternity."

""Not if you were trying to protect your wife," Santana points out. "Also I'm not certain that you don't want to start a war with the elves, and use Charlie as the reason."

Kara stared at Santana for a moment, "You're only going to slow me down."

"How? I'll be riding Hiccup, if anything that will make things go faster, he doesn't seem to want to listen to you."

Kara rubbed her head, if anything happened to Santana, and Charlie came back alive, she was a dead woman walking. "You are a capable beastkin right?"

"Excuse me?"

"You can hunt? You can fight?"

Santana tilts her head, "I'm a panther beastkin—"

"Who is currently injured and saying what you are doesn't actually mean anything," Kara points out as if that were the most obvious thing in the world. "If we're going to look for your mate, then you need to be useful, I am not good at saving people."

"I don't need you to save me," Santana insisted. "You do need me to control Hiccup."

"I'm not sure that he can be—"

Santana turned to Hiccup, "You can chew on her."

Hiccup turns and drops down and clears the distance between him and Kara as she immediately tries to back away, only to trip. "Alright, point made!"

Santana watches until Hiccup opens his mouth, a ton of drool falling onto Kara and smirks, "We're actually going to need her, someone needs to be the bait," she smirks when Hiccup looks up at her. "Let me pack some clothes, and I'll be with you in a moment."

Kara rolls out of the way as Hiccup drops onto the ground and waits for Santana, "Charlie is going to be pissed if anything happens to her," she points out. She coughs as Hiccup blows some smoke out of his mouth letting it hit her.
