Dorian and Eddie woke up the next morning inside their sleep capsules in their shared hotel room, already anxious to get their visit with Suki out of the way. They had already spoken with her on the phone, and she was expecting them at 11:00 AM. They went down to breakfast together, then temporarily parted ways in order to get ready for the day ahead. Once they reunited at the hotel lobby, they decided to have one last conversation before they would board the taxi to her house.

"So ready to see her, Eddie?" Dorian asked.

Eddie eagerly nodded his head. "I sure am. Hey, I know this is a weird question, but do you think we should dress up? You know, like in suits or something?"

Dorian thought about it for a moment. "No, I don't think so. It's not exactly a black-tie event we're going to here. We'll just be visiting her at her house, that's all."

Eddie nodded his head and scratched his chin. "I guess you're right."

Dorian smiled at him. "There's no need to worry about it, Eddie. Just relax and enjoy the moment."

"Okay. I guess I'm just nervous that I might screw this up, that's all."

"You'll be fine. It can't be that bad, can it?"

They'd managed to arrive at Suki's house at 10:30, thirty minutes earlier than she'd hoped. The place was huge, even by the standards of homes owned by chancellors and the like. The front lawn was immaculately manicured and the house itself looked like it had been built in a different era entirely. It was an old Spanish-style villa (which was popular among affluent Japanese homeowners in the 1920s) that had clearly been renovated on several occasions over the years. There were several cars parked outside, all of them expensive models, including a Lamborghini that Eddie couldn't stop staring at.

"Yes, yes, very nice," Dorian said. "There's no time to waste now. We have to go inside and see your girlfriend. I feel like it would be a waste of time if it was all for nothing, n'est-ce pas?"

Eddie nodded and followed Dorian inside. He was surprised by how cold the air conditioning was, but there was no time for him to dwell on that or anything else as they walked down a long hallway lined with doors and entered into an expansive living room. To their surprise, Suki happened to be standing there along with her older brother Daisuke, her older sister Arisu, and their grandmother Junko.

"Hello there," Junko just greeted.

Eddie then jokingly greeted back, "General Kenobi."

Suki giggled a bit, clearly having understood that reference.

"So, what's up?" Eddie asked.

"Oh, not much, I would say," Suki replied. "My brother and sister decided to stop by and visit for a while. Baa-Baa decided to pay a visit, too."

"Baa-Baa?" He pointed to Junko, who was heading off into the kitchen to get a drink of water. "Oh, you meant your grandma over there, right?"

"Yes, that would be her. Her name is Junko. She's my mother's mother."

"Oh, so this is the grandma you were talking about. She's the one who took you and your siblings in when the underground train crashed all those years ago, right?"

"You would be right. She's done so much for us, you know. She even helped put Daisuke through medical school. It wasn't much, but it was the best way she could show her support for him."

Eddie nodded. "I wish I had a grandma like that. One of them seduced Dorian when he was still a minor and belittled and bullied Mom every chance she got. The other... well, I don't know enough about my dad's mom to get an idea of what she was like."

"Oh... I'm... sorry to hear that."

"No, it's okay. Dad doesn't really like talking about his side of the family. It brings him too much discomfort and pain. There's nothing we can do about it now." Eddie sighed and looked up at the ceiling. "I just wish I knew more about my dad's family."

"Speaking of family..." Suki spared a passing glance at the interaction between Dorian and Junko, which seemed to be getting steamy. "I think our grandparents are getting quite acquainted with each other, if you catch my meaning."

Eddie managed to catch a glimpse, too. Dorian and Junko were just standing there, their lips meeting eagerly and their tongues wrapping around each other.

"Ew," Eddie could only say in response. "So you were saying?"

Suki chuckled. "Actually, never mind. I'll tell you more about my family later. There are some things I think we should discuss in private first."

Eddie nodded, his eyes still on Junko and Dorian, who had just broken away for air.

When they got to her office, they stared at each other for a while. Suki had to be the one who finally broke the silence.

"So..." Suki began to speak. "What do you suppose we do now?"

"What do you mean?" Eddie asked back.

"Well, I've been pregnant for four months now. Where exactly do we go from here? We have no idea whether this, um, situationship will last or we can even handle a child at this stage in our lives. So I guess what I have to ask now is... are you ready for what comes next?"

Eddie thought about it for a moment before answering with a shrug of his shoulders. "I don't know."

"Well, I don't know either," Suki said with a sigh. "But we're going to have to figure it out together."

Eddie nodded and then wrapped his arms around her. They stood like that for a few moments before Suki spoke again. "I love you."

"I love you too," he said before leaning in for a kiss.

They stayed like that for a while, just holding each other in silence. It was the first time they'd been alone together since she'd told him she was pregnant, and both of them were relieved that it didn't feel weird or awkward this time. While they didn't always feel comfortable around each other, this moment proved that there was at least something there that could bloom into something messy but magical. They were both nervous about how things would be between them when they would actually become parents, but neither wanted to worry about it right then. For now, they just wanted to enjoy each other's company.

Eventually, Eddie pulled away. He looked down at her with a small smile on his face, one that made her heart flutter in response.

"So," he said quietly. "How are you feeling?"

"Fine," she replied. "Just tired. Growing a human being is exhausting. Frankly, between this and my mental illness, I'm amazed I made it this far."

Eddie laughed. "You're going to be fine. I know it."

"I hope so. I want to be a good mom."

Eddie nodded. "You will be."

All of a sudden, Eddie heard Dorian call out to him and he decided to head out.

"I have to go now," Eddie said softly. "But I'll be back later."

He leaned down and kissed her on the forehead again before opening the door and leaving the office.
