Part 1 – Disorder, Destruction and Death

Tower Bridge

Three days after the brutal murder of Albus Dumbledore, the wizarding world was still reeling from the news that the headmaster of Hogwarts and the only man that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named feared was gone. The ministry was having a hard time trying to put out statements to quell overwhelming public pressure. The minister of magic, Rufus Scrimgeour, had tried his best to ease tensions by placing aurors in strategic public places to show that the ministry was still strong in the face of attack. The minister had even seen fit to utilize a few other ministry departments to patrol the streets. However, today was the day where faith in the ministry would disappear. Today was the day where panic and fear would rule. Today was the day when the death eaters attacked.

The sun was setting over London and as usual, Tower Bridge was swamped with traffic. Vehicles were impatiently waiting for the bridge to lower again. Horns were sounding every few seconds even though people knew it would not help. It was a simple way to vent their displeasure and frustration. The bridge had been opened to allow a beautiful white sailing ship with a towering mast to continue its journey up the river Thames. For all the majesty and technological marvel of the bridge, people still got annoyed that it inconvenienced them, even if for only a few minutes. The sun was shining, and the city of London was busy as usual. The bridge lowered and traffic started to move.

A series of sharp pops announced the arrival of Lord Voldemort and a hundred of his death eaters at the middle of the bridge. Most of them were wearing their jet-black robes and silver masks, except for Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange. The death eaters split up and marched towards the archways of each tower. Voldemort and Bellatrix stayed in the centre of the bridge. As soon as the death eaters were through the arches, Bellatrix cast bombarda on both towers causing the stone structures to collapse and the archways to cave in. The stone structures came crashing to the ground crushing cars and humans alike. Lord Voldemort saw two of his death eaters taken down with a sickening crunch. He didn't care, he had spares. Death eaters who couldn't cast a simple spell to protect themselves weren't worth his time anyway.

Voldemort had a grin of pure glee on his face. It was time to have some fun. He had ordered his followers to cause as much chaos, carnage and death that they could before they met unmanageable resistance. He raised his wand to his throat and cast sonorous.

"BEGIN" The high-pitched amplified shriek of Voldemort could be heard all around.

The death eaters started casting curses left, right and centre. People were being killed in their cars. Glass was flying everywhere, and the death eaters were using it and hurtling it towards people making them look like hedgehogs. Screams and sheer pandemonium set in as people ran for their lives. Whimpers could be heard from those who were injured. Vehicles were being blown up and groans of steel were showing that the integrity of the bridge was failing. The death eaters were throwing killing curses at anyone or anything. Two high yelps sounded through the air as one of the death eaters despatched two dogs. An old man and woman shared one last embrace, whispering last messages to one another before they too were shot down. Voldemort saw Bellatrix throwing three consecutive killing curses at three children. A man who Voldemort assumed to be their father, let out a scream of rage and started to run towards Bellatrix. Ever one to play, she let him get to within six feet of her before she cast sectumsempra on him. He fell to the ground in a scream of agony and Voldemort observed Bellatrix's glee as she watched the light in his eyes flicker out as he bled out. Smirking, he turned towards the sailing ship and cast incendio. Screams could be heard as those aboard abandoned ship and dived into the water to escape the flames. One man wasn't so lucky and could be seen running all over the deck before collapsing in shock. Death took him in a fiery embrace. The sailing ship let out a groan before rapidly descending into the river.

Voldemort whipped round at the sound of approaching sirens. He knew this announced the arrival of the feeble muggle protection forces. Now, it was time for him to join the fun. Letting out a small chuckle, he apparated to join his death eaters and observed the first police cars starting to arrive.

"Lay down your weapons and put your hands in the air" an amplified voice of a muggle policeman rang out.

"Why would we do that? We are having so much fun. At least my followers can't say I don't take them anywhere nice" Sneered Voldemort.

Voldemort raised his wand and the policeman was blasted apart causing blood and guts to fly in all directions. Looking down, he was disgusted to see that some of the muggle filth had landed on his robes. He quickly cast scourgify but made a mental note to burn these robes later.

"Well, what are you all waiting for? let's party" shouted Voldemort.

The death eaters laughed and sent a series of curses towards the three approaching police cars causing them to explode. The force of spells cast upon one of the cars caused it to fly into the air, spin three times in a blur of flame and then plummet into the Thames.

Two boats were careering up the Thames at speed and a mounted gunner started to open fire upon Voldemort and the death eaters. Voldemort cast a wordless spell lazily, causing the bullets to ricochet off a shield and send them flying in all directions. One round ricocheted off just right and imbedded itself into the chest of the gunner. The three officers in the same boat and the four officers in the other observed this happening and thought better of sending more rounds towards the death eaters.

Sirens filled the atmosphere now as every available unit sped to the scene of the attack. An armed response unit arrived and twelve officers clad in body armour exited the van and proceeded to open fire upon the death eaters. Voldemort watched as Bellatrix's husband, Rodolphus, cast wingardium leviosa onto the van causing it to rise in the air and come crashing down upon seven of the officers. The other five were taken down in quick succession by killing curses.

The sound of a helicopter approaching was exactly what Voldemort was waiting for. Let the muggles see for themselves on their televisions that they have been lied to. Let them see that there are far superior beings than them with much more power. Let them see the new world order. He commanded his forces to cast a flurry of random curses to show their power. Cars, lorries and busses were severed in half and then thrown into the Thames. Muggles were tossed into the air and then mutilated before they reached the ground again. Guns were ripped from the hands of the police and crumpled into balls of metal. Voldemort looked at the helicopter again and then cast a spell causing the windows for miles around to shatter. He smirked in the knowledge that anyone near glass would be cut to shreds. The helicopter started spinning out of control and careered into the tower of London exploding on impact.

Voldemort heard more helicopters approaching and hastily erected a shield to protect himself. Bullets started to fire into his death eaters taking out several of them before they could erect shields.

"Pathetic, absolutely pathetic" he said aloud.

"What is my Lord?" asked Bellatrix tentatively.

"My useless followers. When did it not become a requirement that to join my ranks you have to at least be proficient enough to cast a shield against muggle weaponry" he seethed.

"My Lord, some of those who were hit will survive if we get them out of here" replied Bellatrix.

"No, let them die. Once people start to see my power, they will rush to my side and I'll have more followers than I'll know what to do with" he said as he raised his wand to his neck and cast sonorous.

"Death Eaters withdraw" he ordered.

A series of pops announced the leaving of his followers who were still alive. He took one last look around at the carnage he had caused in mere minutes and smiled widely. He cast reducto on the bridge and apparated away.

The bridge groaned and collapsed into the Thames, taking vehicles and bodies alike to the bottom of the river.
