A smiling Lucy walked into the Fairy Tail guild ready to start a new day dressed in her white shirt and blue skirt combo. After being greeted by some of the members she walked over to the bar to find Cana sitting there with a frown but no Mirajane, "Hey Cana where's Mira?" Lucy wondered.

Cana smiled, "Last night was her night with Natsu so she's gonna be running a little late."

"Oh" Lucy blushed. After hearing about Natsu's contract she dreamt of what her night with Natsu would be like and it was a vivid dream at that.

"You clearly had a good morning so why don't you get me a drink so I can start having one." Cana chuckled.

"Alright. Would you like anything Lucy?" Mira replied making sure to get the blonde while she had a chance.

"I'm good." Lucy replied before going over to her usual spot to relax. 'This is frustrating.' Lucy thought to herself as she lamented her situation. Thanks to the contract, any mission with Natsu could only last a day unless somebody else went along. Combined with her concerns about her father, meant that Lucy was in a bind.

"Everything okay Lucy" Bisca smiled as she approached the frustrated blonde. Bisca was wearing a short, blue, strapless one-piece dress with a cowboy hat and a polka dotted neck scarf.

"Hey Bisca. How are you." Lucy replied. Bisca was one of the older women that Lucy befriended during her short stint at Fairy Tale. She was a friendly woman who didn't tease her the way Cana did, so she was a good person to talk to.

"Good but you look like could use some company." Bisca said calmly

"Yeah. I'm just a little upset." Lucy admitted.

"Let me guess. It's about your dad." Bisca said warmly.

"Sort of. I think I'm just mad because I can't have the usual experience I wanted." Lucy replied.

Bisca smiled, "Sometimes things don't go as planned for wizards, but you do what you have to do. Besides, if you have Natsu by your side you'll be fine." Bisca smiled.

Lucy couldn't help but blush, "Who said anything about Natsu?"

"You did when you went with Mira to sign that contract."

"How did you know that?" Lucy blushed since she thought they were discreet.

"Natsu's contract is well known by most of the guild and anytime a female that's already a part of the guild goes with Mira to see Master, it's because she's signing the contract. Though it's been a while since we've had a new entrant."

Lucy's eyes widened because of something she knew about Bisca, "You said we right. What about you and Alzack" Lucy said in confusion. Bisca would've been a prime candidate for a partner, if not for her dating a fellow guild member named Alzack. She would've been a third wheel since they were a couple, and it would've added to her frustration about Natsu.

Bisca looked away for a second with an odd expression on her face before taking a deep breath, "When the idea for the contract first came around I was interested in Natsu just like many other members of the guild. Alzack was new and I could tell he was interested but Natsu was just… different. When it came time to schedule the girls, I was one of the last and I ended up having to wait a few weeks before my chance with Natsu arrived. I used the time to get to know Alzack and I ended up falling for him."

"What about you and Natsu?" Lucy wondered. If she fell for Alzack

"I went through with my Natsu time because I had waited so long and during a break in the mission we talked about what happened. I told him I was interested in him, but I was also interested in Alzack, and I didn't know what to do."

"What did he say" Lucy wondered.

"He told me that I should go to Alzack because with him I would always be one of many, but with Alzack I could be one of one. We finished the mission and not long after that I asked Mira to remove me from the list and started dating Al" Bisca smiled.

Lucy was pleasantly surprised but it also reinforced her concern, "What would you have done if your time with Natsu was earlier and you didn't get to know Alzack the way you did."

Bisca sighed because that was the million jewel question, "I ask myself that all the time and I still haven't found an answer." Bisca admitted.

"I see' Lucy sighed because that didn't help her at all.

"What I do know is that if you want to pursue Natsu do so without hesitation. I got lucky with Alzack but that doesn't always happen" Bisca smiled.

That did help a bit, "Thanks Bisca." Lucy smiled.

"Sure." Bisca replied with a smile before leaving her spot and going back to Alzack who smiled when she saw her.

Lucy looked over at the two and seeing how happy they were together understood what she needed to do. Getting up from her spot, she made her way over to the mission board to find a mission and quickly found one, before making her way over to Natsu who was talking with Loke as Happy ate a fish. "Hey Natsu, do you want to go on a mission with me." Lucy said with a smile on her face.

Natsu looked over at the smiling Lucy, "Sure. What did you have in mind?" Natsu smiled.

"Here" Lucy smiled before handing Natsu the mission.

He looked over it for a few minutes before frowning, "Hold on a second." Natsu smiled before walking over to Mira.

"What's wrong?" Lucy wondered.

"From what I could tell, the mission could last a day or longer depending on how skilled you are and how lucky you are." Loke explained.

"Crap. That means I might have to go with somebody other than Natsu" Lucy frowned aware of her screw up. Because of the contract, any mission over a day had to be with somebody other than Natsu and Happy didn't count.

"Yep." Loke frowned.

Lucy waited patiently as Natsu spoke with Mira and Lucy couldn't help but wonder what would happen. After about five minutes Natsu walked back with a smile, "Good news and bad news."

"Good news first." Lucy smiled.

"Mira said that we can go on the mission alone for now." Natsu smiled.

Lucy was about to breathe a sigh of relief before she remembered an important part of the sentence, "What do you mean for now?"

"Missions like the one you have are complicated. We're going to go to Shirotsume and talk to the client and after we find out the specifics, we can update Mira and she'll decide what to do." Natsu explained.

"I see." Lucy replied nervously.

"We can start heading over whenever you're ready." Natsu replied.

"Actually, there's something I need to do back at home but after that we can go." Lucy said calmly.

"How long do you need?' Natsu wondered.

"Shouldn't be more than an hour." Lucy replied.

"No problem. I'll be waiting here." Natsu replied.

"Cool." Lucy smiled before heading home. This was her big chance with Natsu, and she wasn't going to mess up.

Natsu and Lucy sat in a carriage headed for Shirotsume with both as calm as ever. Lucy changed from her white shirt into a pink spaghetti strap top with black edging and a black skirt. The mission she chose was an infiltration mission to destroy a book being held by a man named Duke Everlue. "I'm sure you're excited Lucy, but you need to be careful."

"If you're talking about my father, the reason I wanted a partner in the first place is because I knew the risk of Dark Guilds being there."

"Infiltration missions like this one can be easy or complicated depending on the details. This one has a few nasty details and you being an attractive blonde isn't going to be enough to get this done quickly." Natsu spoke up.

"Book destroying missions usually cost somewhere between 20,000 and 40,000 jewels even if most of that cost is because you have to sneak into the location of the book to destroy it. This mission is worth 200,000 jewels which means the book has a major secret and if Everlue knows that, he'll be extra careful around anybody who wants to access his mansion." Natsu replied.

"Got it. Thanks for the advice." Lucy smiled.

"No problem. I mean I'm your partner for this mission so I'm here to help however I can."

Natsu raised an eyebrow before deciding to switch, "You realize that you'll have to change into a maid outfit to infiltrate the mansion. It doesn't really matter what you wear now."

Behind him was his wife an older woman with long brown hair in a pink dress, "Thank you for coming. Duke Everlue has a book in his possession named Day Break and that's what, I'd like you." Kaby said calmly.

"That's fine." Lucy said calmly. For the meeting Lucy changed into the maid outfit she'd be using to infiltrate the mansion. She went to get the outfit while Natsu and Happy had lunch and kept her other clothes in a locker she rented since she didn't think it would take too long.

"Thank you. Your reward for this mission is 2 million jewels." Kaby explained, causing Lucy and Natsu's eyes to widen.

"Not at all. I thought you were told?" Kaby said nervously.

"We weren't sir." Lucy replied.

"I'm sorry." Kaby said bashfully.

"Don't worry about it." Lucy said calmly but Natsu wasn't as calm.

'Something is rotten here.' Natsu thought to himself with a scowl. Rewards going up a little bit was one thing but to increase that much was rare if not unheard of. Then there was the other issue, the scent of the house. Anybody who's lived in a house for a significant amount of time will smell like the house to some degree. Since they'd arrived at the house, Natsu took an opportunity to figure out the scent of the house and it was an easy task. The problem was that Kaby didn't smell like the house at all.

"Is there a problem?" Kaby asked nervously, noticing the odd expression on Natsu's face.

"Not at all." Natsu replied calmly. Kaby clearly had a reason for lying to them, but it was up to Lucy to figure it out.

"I he was just shocked at the increase. We'll take the mission." Lucy replied to Natsu's admitted disappointment.

"Thank you" Kaby replied clearly grateful for the help

"Sure." Lucy said calmly as she got up with Natsu not far behind.

"We'll have that book burned before you know it." Natsu replied as they left.

'What are you doing Natsu. This seems like a horrible idea.' Igneel said into Natsu's mind.

'I agree but this is Lucy's first mission. She needs to learn to be careful or she'll never survive.'

'I see. I take it you'll find a way to get involved yourself.'

'That'll depend on Lucy to be honest. If she wants to be a wizard she'll have to learn how to do things on her own. I can't always help her or at least I don't plan to.' Natsu replied. This was her mission and whether she sank or swam would be on her.

"Very well. Igneel frowned. He didn't like it, but Natsu had a point. For now, they'd wait and see what happens.

"Good luck Lucy" Natsu smiled as he and Happy stood with her 100 feet from Everlue's mansion. It was far enough away that he could get involved if necessary but not so close that Everlue would realize he was there.

"I heard. Lucy and I already met with the client, and she accepted. She actually just left to audition for the maid position" Natsu revealed.

"Yeah. Something about this mission stunk before, but now it really seems off."

"I agree, but I do have some good news for you." Loke said with a grin on his face.

"And that is?" Natsu said with a raised eyebrow.

"Duke Everlue just so happens to be the holder of a certain pink haired celestial spirit that you got along with back in the day." Loke smiled.

"We'll see what happens. For now I'm waiting to hear from Lucy." Natsu said firmly.

Natsu was pleasantly surprised by that, "How about we go find a place to relax for a bit and you tell me about it." Natsu replied with a wry smile.

"Okay" Lucy scowled. She was so angry that she didn't even pay attention to Natsu's suggestion and its implications.
