Chapter Fifty-Six

Rory finished putting on her lipstick and mascara. Her hair was perfectly curled in loose long waves that framed her face. She wore one of her LBD's that she had acquired months ago—one of her little black dresses that she kept on hand for a date night. Her last step was to slip into her black pumps.

She checked herself one last time in the mirror, then, walked out to meet Logan.

"I'm ready," announced Rory to the room with a smile. Logan sat on the couch. He looked at her and smiled back.

"Wow. You look great, Rory."

"Thanks," said Rory. "I wanted to be ready a little early so that you can have time to shower and change, too."

"That's a good idea. Thanks," he replied. "I won't take to long. I'll hop into the shower and I'll be back out soon."

Rory nodded. Logan rose from the couch and walked into the bathroom. Rory took Logan's empty seat on his couch. The television was on playing something on MTV. The only other person in the room was Logan's roommate named Marty. It seemed like Finn and Colin left while Rory was getting dressed.

"Where did Finn and Logan go?" asked Rory.

"Oh. They said they were going to grab something to eat before the party tonight."

"Why didn't you go, too?" she asked.

Marty shrugged. "I figured I'd get to my homework soon. I don't think that I'll be going to Robert's party."

Rory frowned. "Why not? Do you have a big project or test coming up that you need to work on?"

Marty shook his head. "I just like to get ahead on things."

"Oh," said Rory. "Are you working this weekend or something?"

Marty shook his head to say, "no."

"Then, you should come out and meet us at Robert's place with Finn and Colin. The three of them together are a riot. I'm sure you'll have a good time."

Marty looked pensive. "Really? You think?"

"And it's always good to get out of your comfort zone."

Marty didn't answer for a moment. But after a few seconds, he came to a decision. "All right. I guess."

Leggero was a beautiful restaurant. There were bright and sparkling chandeliers that hung from the ceiling. The tables were set up with fine china and embroidered table cloths.

Rory and Logan were seated as soon as they arrived. The waiter approached the two's table in seconds.

"Do you need more time to examine the menu?" he asked.

"No. That's fine. Rory… do you mind if I order for the both of us? I go to this place a lot. I know all the great things on the menu."

"Sure," said Rory. "I'd appreciate it."

"We'll have two lobster tails and potatoes for the side. And a bottle of champagne," said Logan to the waiter.

The waiter nodded and left immediately.

"This is a nice place," said Rory as soon as the waiter left.

"Yeah. It's great," said Logan. "The service is really quick and they always get everything right when you order."

Rory smiled. "So you go here a lot? Do you mean with other women?"

Logan chuckled. "Nah. I take other women who I don't like as much to other places."

Rory grinned. "I'm glad you think so well of me."

"It's not hard to do." Logan smiled. "So, how are things back home? How are the Puffs treating you?"

"Oh, it's been great. I love Francie and the other girls. We're always going to some party on the weekends. The only problem with that is sometimes it's hard to balance partying with homework and school."

"I understand," said Logan. "I feel the same way. I always have to make sure my school work is done before another party or event comes up on the weekends. If I didn't think ahead like that, then, I'd definitely be failing all of my classes."

"It's a good thing that you think ahead then," said Rory. She paused thoughtfully for a second before continuing. "So have you heard from Elias or your family? How is your grandfather doing?"

"He's doing fine right now," said Logan. "He's going to his doctor appointments and he's sticking to the diet they have set up most of the time. My mom's in charge of his menu from now on and he only cheats when he can get away with it."

"That's good to hear. I never asked you before. Are you and Elias close?"

"We are," said Logan. "He's closer to me than he is to Honor or my other cousins. I think it has something to do with the fact that I'm supposed to take up after my father once I graduate from Yale."

"Oh." Rory could tell that Logan wanted to say more. "Does that bother you? Do you want to do something else after you graduate other than run your family's business?"

Logan didn't say anything for a moment. "Well," he finally began, "I'm used to the idea by now. I didn't want to be a part of the journalism business like my dad when I was growing-up but I've gotten used to the life plan that they've set-up for me. I think I can handle it."

"That's great," said Rory.

Logan and Rory continued to talk until the two's waiter brought out his and her food. The dinner was elegant and delicious.

In time, the two's meal was over. They decided to go for dessert at an ice-cream shop by Yale before they headed out to the party at Robert's dorm.

Rory was having a pleasant evening. Things felt simple and relaxed when she was around Logan. She couldn't help but think that Logan would be a great boyfriend to have… if Logan wanted to make the two's relationship more serious.

All she really had to do was to talk to him about it. Then, maybe they could figure it out together.

Still, despite these thoughts Rory had to be honest with herself: Jess and his satiric wit were still in the back of her mind.
