A/N Before I begin. Haruto is an OC of mine so obviously you have no information about him. I won't give you his whole character profile but I will give you some important information. He's a trans man and Light is the only person who he's told, he just realized he's trans. His relationship with their parents, especially their father, is not very good. And the third crucial piece of information is that Haruto hates the police and is very on board with the Kira thing.

"Hey, Light, what do you think about me dying my hair gre-oh what do you have there?"

"Just some notebook I found when leaving school. Looks like an intricate prank."

"Why do you say that?" Haruto questioned, moving closer to examine the notebook.

"It says that if you write someone's name they will die and has a bunch of rules about how to use it. A lot of stuff about shinigamis"

"Shinigamis?" Haruto grabbed the notebook to read the rules. "Wow. Whoever did this put a lot of effort into these rules."

"I know. How silly."

"Let's try it out."

"What?" Light couldn't help but laugh. "Haru, you don't actually think this could be real, do you?"

"No, but it'd be interesting just to see if it works."

"If we did that, we'd be responsible for someone's death."

"That's why we try it out on someone who deserves it. There's plenty of people this world would be better off without. Turn on the news. We'll find someone deserving of death in no time."

"Whatever you say, man." Light turned on his TV.

A multiple murderer holding children hostage inside a school. Kurou Otoharada.

"God, I hate watching the news." Haruto commented, taking a seat on Light's bed. "Write it fast. I don't wanna think about this man's existence for long."

"Why do I have to write it?"

"You found the notebook."

"Fine." Light scratched the criminals name and looked at his clock. "40 seconds. You know, I could be studying right now."

"Yeah, I know how much you need to study. It's not like you're the brightest student in the country."

"Says the guy that's never studied in his life."

"I don't have time to study. My schedule is full of disappointing our parents." Haruto laughed.

Light was about to lecture his brother on how if he just applied himself, he'd achieve so much but all of a sudden

"What's this? The victims are running out of the building!"

Haruto jumped up and stood right behind his brother, both watching with shock.

"Otoharada is dead!"

"He's dead?"

"The hostages are saying he suddenly collapsed."

"Oh my god it worked." Both boys realized, before realizing that oh my god it worked.

"Does this make us murderers?"

"Technically, yes, I suppose we are. But he deserved it. Light, we saved those hostages."

"I, I don't know."

They watched the news in silence for what felt like years. Finally, Light spoke up.

"So, you know how you said that some people deserve to die?"

"Yeah, of course. It's been a thought in the back of my head practically my whole life."

"Well, what do you think about using this notebook to carry that out?"

"To kill criminals?"

"Yeah. Think about it, we'd be making the world a better place, just like you said. The world would be better off without these people. Kill off all the terrible people, keep the ones that will actually help humanity."

"And when people start to notice that all these criminals are getting heart attacks all of a sudden?"

"That's the best part. People will know that someone is judging. The evil will be paying for their sins. Those who deserve life live knowing that there's someone cleaning up humanity's garbage, and said garbage will live in fear, awaiting the day they succumb to their fate."

"You thought about this very deeply in just a few minutes."

"I have to. When you have an idea this big you need to think through everything."

"You have an awful lot of trust in me."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, I just mean that you must have a lot of trust that in the future I won't rat you out."

"You'd snitch on your own brother?" Light questioned, seriously considering his relationship with Haruto.

"Never in a million lifetimes. Just bringing it to your attention that if we did this, we have to trust each other. A lot of people, especially at first when the socially acceptable thing to do will be shun the person killing these criminals, will see us as even worse than the people we kill. We have to be sure that we can trust each other. So, Light Yagami, my dearest brother, do you trust me to change the world with you?"

Haruto extended his hand, which Light took.

"Forever and always."
