Yep, the second stage of my planned Marvel Universe, set in the same universe of Chronicles of Spider-Man, about four years into it. This will follow my incarnation of the Avengers, and associated characters.
Constructive criticism is appreciated, but NO FLAMES. If you don't like it, don't read it. It's as simple as that.
- Chapter 1 -
Enter the Web-Warriors
In New York City, people were running in the streets with fear and panic. Doctor Octopus lifted a car overhead before tossing it through the air.
"Spider-Man!" he roared. "Show yourself, damn you!"
The Rhino smashed through several cars while Electro blasted a neon sign. Vulture flew overhead, slinging razor-feathers all over the place while Scorpion melted a car with his acid tail and Mysterio emerged from a cloud of smoke.
"Going to all this trouble for little old me?" a familiar voice remarked. "I feel so warm and fuzzy inside."
Just then, a figure dropped down, revealing it to be Spider-Man. His suit, while resembling his usual red-and-blue long johns, now bore a design based on athletic wear and compression clothing, featuring sneaker-style shoes instead of knee-high boots and white accents on the gloves and shoes. What was most notable, however, was the white spider symbol on the chest and back, its legs ending at the blue parts of the suit
"Well well, if it ain't the itsy bitsy spider," Scorpion remarked.
"And sporting a new look as well," Mysterio noted.
"Well, some of us actually have a sense of fashion," Spidey retorted. "Unlike you, fishbowl head. So... who's ready for a good old-fashioned, web-slinging ass kicking?"
"Confidence," Ock remarked. "A fool's substitute for intelligence."
"You stupid bug!" Scorpion snapped. "There are six of us and only one of you! And we ain't doing something dumb like attack you one at a time like before!"
"You know, for someone who hangs around a doctor…" Spider-Man spoke up. "you really need to learn how to count."
"...Huh?"
Just then, several web lines shot out from behind him. Three figures landed, all of them dressed in suits similar to Spider-Man's. One was mostly black on the lower body with a white upper body and hoodie and cyan soles. The underarms and inside the hoodie were magenta covered in cyan web patterns, the lenses white with magenta accents.
The next wore a largely red suit, with gold on the spider symbol on the chest, wrists, ankles, and lenses
The last had long black hair in a ponytail, her suit colored black on the arms and legs while the torso and thighs were white with a black web pattern with a red gradient towards her chest. Unlike the others, her nose and mouth were covered with a red bandana.
"Meet my new teammates," Spider-Man introduced. "Ghost-Spider, Iron Spider, and Silk."
"Together, we're the Web-Warriors!" Iron Spider declared.
"And we're gonna take you down," Silk swore.
"What kinda game is this, Ock?!" Electro demanded. "You didn't tell us he had a team now!"
"A surprising development," Octopus admitted. "But not one we cannot adapt to. Destroy them all!"
They charged at one another. The fight between the six and the Web Warriors raged, Ghost Spider swung upwards to confront Vulture.
"Are those new wings?" she shot webbing into the turbines. "If so, you should send them back. I think they're broken!"
"You fool!" Vulture shouted.
He struggled to stay upright as Iron Spider faced Scorpion.
"Iron Man know you're ripping off his look and design?" he taunted.
"For your information, Gargan, he gave me this suit." Iron Spider retorted.
"Well, ain't that sweet."
"Oh, it gets sweeter."
From his back emerged four mechanical spider legs, the tips glowing blue before he began shooting repulsor rays at Scorpion. The thug immediately went on the defensive. Scorpion leapt onto a wall, spraying acid at the armor clad hero. The two exchanged volleys as Mysterio faced off with Silk.
"Silk? Really?" he asked.
"Wow," Silk deadpanned. "The guy wearing a giant fishbowl is mocking my superhero name."
"Only because it lacks a certain panache."
"I was gonna go with Spider-Woman, but it's been taken. Now then…"
She raised her hands, webbing shooting from her fingertips at the master of illusion. The webs shot right through him, revealing him to be an illusion. Seeing this, Silk closed her eyes, focusing before her hand shot out, grabbing something just as a gunshot went off. Mysterio slowly flickered into the visual spectrum, Silk's hand wrapped around his wrist, a pistol falling from his grip.
"Nice try," she said casually. She then flipped him onto the ground before punching at his helmet. As this went on, Spider-Man faced off with Dr. Octopus.
"So, what next, Otto? I'm dying to know," he asked. "You take me out, then what? Your wife and kid won't just magically return to your side. Your company won't just magically come back. If you kill me... what's left for you to make a life from?"
"I'll work that out afterward," Octopus replied. "Stop resisting me, and I'll get to it sooner."
"Yeah, that's not really on my to do list. In fact, I kinda have a previous engagement, so how about you surrender?"
All he got in response was a lashing tentacle he sidestepped to avoid.
"Ah yes. That would be the reasonable thing to do, now wouldn't it?"
Ock quickly shot out two more arms, which Spider-Man dodged without missing a beat.
"Same old tired-ass moves, Doc! Get some new material!"
"If you insist."
Ock grabbed two nearby man holes and lobbed them at Spidey. Meanwhile, Silk swung up to help Ghost-Spider, who was now being double-teamed by both Vulture and Electro.
"Yo, Adrian!" she declared in a hilariously bad Sylvester Stallone-esque voice. "It's me, Silk!"
"What are you babbling about?" Vulture demanded.
"Of course you don't get it," Silk sighed. "Old people. So out of touch with modern pop culture."
Vulture slashed at Silk, forcing her to drop from her webline. Electro floated above, arms sparking.
"Silk! Ghost-Spider!" he declared in a faux Russian accent. "I must break you!"
"Hey, you got my joke! I'm so happy I could almost stop fighting!" she shot webbing at him. "Almost."
Electro quickly darted out of the way, only to be ensnared by a webline from Ghost-Spider. He grabbed onto it, trying to shock her, only for the electricity to be harmlessly contained in her web-shooters. Ghost-Spider slung him into Vulture, allowing Silk to web him to his back. Electro shorted out Vulture's wings, the two dropping like rocks. They dropped like rocks, Silk catching them with another webline and leaving them dangling.
"Too bad he didn't shockproof his harness," Silk remarked.
Meanwhile, Iron Spider continued to fight against Scorpion. He backflipped out of the way of one of his tail attacks, just as Rhino charged up, accidentally hitting Scorpion.
"Hey!" Scorpion cried out after tumbling to the ground. "Watch where you're going, you big oaf!"
"You watch where you're going!" Rhino countered.
"At least I'm not wearing a tank with legs!"
"Guys, please," Iron Spider cut in. "There's plenty of me to go around."
Rhino ran at Iron Spider, prompting him to sprout his metal arms and leap over him. He then fired repulsor webbing at Scorpion, shocking him, and knocking him into a nearby car. Furious, Scorpion fired some acid at Iron Spider, forcing him to dodge and causing the acid to hit Rhino's armor.
"Ow!" Rhino shouted. "Gargan, you pridurok! (1)"
"Hey, the kid moved out of the way. Not my fault you got in the way!"
Enraged, Rhino charged at him. Scorpion couldn't react before being tackled into a shipping container, which Iron Spider quickly webbed shut. Loud bangs and shouts sounded from within.
"A little forced together time oughta help you boys learn to play nice."
Meanwhile, Spider-Man continued duking it out with Doc Ock, dodging and deflecting his arms left and right. Finally, Ock grabbed him by the throat and slammed him into the wall.
"I've been waiting a long time for this moment," Ock declared. "Our long feud ends here and now, Spider-Man."
"Feud?" Spider-Man remarked. "And here I thought we had a healthy give and take. Boy, have I misread this relationship."
"The world will truly miss your rapier wit. Farewell."
All four tentacles reared back, only for Ghost-Spider to swing in and kick him into the wall. Ock just barely got to his feet before she knocked him out with a hard punch to the face, dusting her hands off afterward. Spider-Man stood up, looking at the downed villains.
"Gotta say, for our first team effort, not too shabby." he mused.
"Thanks," Iron Spider said. "I think we did pretty well ourselves."
"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a date to get to."
He hurried off at that, the others watching him go.
"Ten bucks says he doesn't get there in time," Ghost-Spider said after a moment.
Silk grinned. "You're on."
At Mick's Restaurant, Spider-Man ducked into an alley. After a few minutes, he came out uncostumed as Peter Parker, entering the restaurant to see a pretty red-haired girl around his age at a nearby table.
"Hey, MJ," Peter said as he slid into his seat. "Sorry I'm late."
"Actually, you're right on time," MJ replied. "I got here early."
Peter blinked. "Really? Wow, that's a first."
MJ shrugged. "Well, there's a first time for everything, Pete."
