Not a very long chapter and pretty much just filler, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.
Coruscant
Afternoon
"It's hard to explain," Willow said, sitting at the bench where she had agreed to meet Buffy and Faith for lunch. "It was like this…energy was flowing through me. Like there was this…movie playing in my mind of where the droid was going to shoot next. I guess I finally understood what Luke was talking about."
"You finally connected to it anyway," Faith said, for once trying to be the optimist.
"But it's still nowhere near enough to repower the Seed," Willow said with a heavy sigh. "I still have so much more to learn before I'm ready for that."
"Maybe that's a good thing Will," Buffy said and Willow and Faith looked at her incredulously. "Maybe that'll give is time to help fix the mess we made."
"B, hate to burst your bubble, but we're three women and there's like a galaxy full of Slayers being recruited. This isn't like the Mayor or The First, we can't end this war with just us," Faith reasoned.
"We can try," Buffy argued.
As she listened to Buffy and Faith go back and forth about whether or not they could help end the war or not, Willow absently wondered how Luke, Han and Leia's meeting with the New Republic High Command was going.
In Mon's office, Han sat with Leia and Luke behind him, answering questions from Mon Mothma and her advisors.
"So you're telling me Captain Solo, you, alone and without consultation with anyone in official authority, made the decision to cancel the Bimmisaari mission?" one of them asked.
"I've already said that," Han said, resisting the urge to make a comment he knew would only get him in bigger trouble. "I've also given my reasons."
"Which, in my opinion were good and proper ones," Ackbar spoke up unexpectedly. "Captain Solo's duty at that point was abundantly clear: To protect the ambassador in his charge and to return safely to alert us."
"Alert us to what?" another advisor spoke up. "Forgive me Captain Solo, but we already knew the Empire was recruiting these Vampire Slayers as your new friends are calling them. I fail to see the relevance of why Captain Solo needed to cancel the mission in order to alert us to this."
"The relevance is that the Empire is growing bolder," Leia spoke up and the room was silent as she commanded their attention. "They've now attempted to capture Luke and possibly me as well. Not since Vader was around has the Empire so blazingly attempted to go after my brother, but now they're targeting me as well. It's a development that warrants caution."
"Leia makes a valid point," Mon interjected, looking thoughtful.
"We're going to need tighter security for these kinds of missions. On both ends, given they did suborn a Bimm politician," Ackbar added.
There was some grumbling about money but Mon quickly silenced them. Han exchanged a quick glance with Leia and Luke. This going better than expected but Han didn't relax. These meetings always left him feeling frustrated when he let his guard down. And he wasn't disappointed.
"Accordingly, you will detail a force to accompany Councilor Organa on her trip back to Bimmisaari tomorrow," Mon said with a pointed look at Ackbar.
"Excuse me, tomorrow?" Han repeated, sharing a look with an equally surprised Leia.
"Yes, tomorrow. The Bimms are still waiting, Captain," Mon pointed out.
"Yes, but-"
"I believe what Han is trying to say is that I intended to use this meeting to ask for a brief leave of absence so I may begin my Jedi training under Luke," Leia cut in smoothly before Han could put his foot in his mouth.
"I believe Skywalker is still in the process of training Willow, unless her training has made great strides since you left for Bimmisaari," Mon said with a glance at the squirming Luke.
"No," Luke acknowledged. "She had a break through on the way, but she's still a far cry from a Jedi."
"Then I'm sorry, but Leia's stills as a diplomat are too crucial right now. Perhaps in time, when Luke has trained Willow. But for now, I cannot afford to lose Leia," Mon did her best to sound apologetic but it did little to ease Han's ire.
As the room filled out, Han grumbled as he gathered his data cards when he felt Leia's familiar hand on his shoulder.
"You all right?" she asked in concern.
"You know, it was a lot easier when we were taking on the Empire. At least then, we knew who our enemies were," Han grumbled.
"Come on, let's see if they'll gotten 3PO cleaned up yet," Leia said with a gentle squeeze of his arm.
Military base
Not long after
Buffy and Faith were walking down the hall when they heard a voice call out to them.
"Hey Buffy, Faith," they turned around to see Wedge walking towards them.
"Wedge," Buffy greeted politely. "Did you want something?"
"Yeah. In a few days, meet me out front. I've just been informed I'm going to be your instructor in how to how to fly an X-Wing. For now, I want you to study these," Wedge said before handing them each a datapad. "It's a guide on an X-Wing; it'll show you what works and what doesn't."
"Gee Wedge, just what I always wanted," Faith said dryly as she already started looking it over.
"Hey, I'd rather be doing other stuff to, but you gotta learn. We'll meet at 7 in the morning Standard Time. It won't be so bad, trust me," Wedge assured them with a smile before walking off.
"Just when I thought I'd dropped out of school," Faith said with a glance at the pad.
"Well, on the bright side, learning how to fly a space ship is gonna be cool," Buffy noted and Faith laughed.
"Yeah, guess so," Faith said before pausing. "The Xand man is gonna be so jealous when we get back."
It took only a moment of imagining Xander's reaction for the Slayers to burst into hysterical giggles.
Luke's apartment
Same time
Willow was sitting in the living room in a cross legged position when the door opened and Luke stepped inside, pausing as he saw Willow.
"Willow? Are you alright?" Luke asked, sensing the waves of frustration coming off her.
"Yeah, just…I've been trying to connect to The Force the way I did before, but I can't seem to do it," Willow said as she opened her eyes, visibly frustrated.
"Willow, it's alright. It'll take practice for you to connect to The Force, it took me a lot of work to get to where I am now, it didn't happen overnight," Luke told her and she took a deep breath, trying to calm down.
"Yeah, I guess so. It's just…" Willow trailed off.
"Frustrating? Trust me Willow, I get it," Luke assured her. "Only thing that'll make it easier is practice. You ready to keep training?"
"As ready as I'll ever be. Let's get started," Willow said with a heady sigh as she got to her feet, wondering what Luke was going to have her do this time.
Not a very long chapter I know, but next one will be as I start setting up various story arcs.
