On My Own

Chapter 14

Author Notes: Time to switch gears a bit my friends. New perspective, new array of characters taking the spotlight. Let's be real Yusei needs a break and as much as I would love to dedicate a one shot of him napping...I won't. Plot needs to expand. So here we go. I do not own Yugioh.

3rd P.O.V

For a secret underground dueling ring, it was getting a lot of coverage within the Satellite station. Anyone who turned it on would find a beautiful blonde woman smiling at the camera as various hands clap in the background.

"Hello everyone~ It's your favorite time of the day. 'Dirty Duel Dishes' with our fabulous host-Angela Raines!" At the back of the rows of the audience Jack and Carly snorted as they watched on, bored.

Though they were here for their designated jobs, neither were the biggest fans of the blonde bitch sweet talking the audience. Jack knew a vulture when he saw one, and Angela Raines was a hell of a good one as she loved to snare any sort of rumor and turn it into a profit.

It didn't help that she would do whatever it would take to make that profit, no matter how illegal it may be. "So the latest gossip on the streets is the massive earthquake that occurred just yesterday! It was so scary-but we were lucky there were no casualties or massive damage."

At that Carly scowled. Even with her spiral glasses, anyone would be able to tell she was pissed at that statement. Her and the hostess never got along in the past before, but there were plenty of reasons for Carly to hate her with a passion.

"She calls nearly a hundred people hospitalized and major power outings due to several buildings collapsing not being massive damage?!" Jack glances down towards her, placing a hand on her shoulder.

Both to show support as well as physically keep her in place. "Calm down Carly...the last thing we need is you to go charging after her." Though he couldn't blame her for feeling this way, he wouldn't be able to bail her out for her impulsive behavior. "But-she ugh!"

This wasn't the first time she's tried storming after Angela. It's also not the first time the irritating news reporter used Carly's hard working investigation on the earthquake to get another episode of her popular Gossip show.

As annoying as this show was, the ravenette wouldn't be as annoyed if her bimbo of a co-worker actually presented the facts correctly. It was like she was back in high school again, and it pissed her off to no end! Still there was nothing she could do.

Her boss always liked Angela more than her. So of course she could get away with things. "So I'm sure all of you lovely people are wondering where I'm going with this right?" Soon though that will change.

"Word on the street is one of those few injured is one of our beloved top twenty. Ladies I hate to say it, but it was our poor Gentleman of Hearts. Our Steampunk Sweetheart Dust Fairfite!" Immediately the pair rolled their eyes as various individuals gasp and murmur in concern.

This was revolting. "She should've gone into theater with the dramatics." Together they turn to surprisingly find Crow of all people coming towards them. "Tell me about it. What are you doing here Crow? I thought you didn't care for gossip?" The spiky haired duelist gives Carly a look.

One that makes her squeak before ducking behind Jack for protection. Never in the years she's known him has he ever looked so serious and cold. "What do you want Crow?" Instead of answering, he simply turns his gaze to the audience.

Listening to the show with a roll of his eyes. Why people liked this shit, he'd never know or understand. Not that he wants to. "On the other side we have my cousin Mai Valentine checking in with our injured duelist!" The screen behind her suddenly turns on.

Showing her cousin and a huge crowd of girls surrounding the door. "Hellllo boys and girls~ As you can see we have quite the few worried fans waiting to see our precious Dust! Let's see if little ole me can make my way to the door."

Crow scrunched his nose at the screen...don't these guys have any shame? Give the poor guy a break and give him his privacy. But that was a hypocritical thing of him to think...what he's about to ask is going to be no different than what the blonde bimbos were doing.

"Calling a favor. I need you two to do some digging on the 'Steampunk Sweetheart." Now this was unexpected. Neither of them could get a read on him as he looked on, ignoring their stares. "Why? I thought you and him were on good terms." Jack especially was suspicious.

He hadn't forgotten how Dust stood against him in Crow's defense. Just what was his game? "Something's been nagging me." He narrows his eyes. Frowning as the screen behind Angela reveals a large crowd that mainly consisted of girls.

Not seeing Carly adjust her glasses. Placing a hand on her chin she remembers her first encounter with the inventor. "Nagging? I only spoke to the guy once but he seemed really nice. Even when he was avoiding my questions he was polite."

It's not like there was anything wrong with how Dust spoke or acted. However there was something about him that felt familiar. "Hey hey-what's all this!?" All three glance back towards the show.

"Ohhh if it isn't Mr. Gumshoes~ I didn't know you were all chummy with Dust! Tell me how is he? So many of his fans have gifts for his recovery!" It was true. If they weren't holding banners with his name and hearts on it, they had gifts in all sorts of colors and shapes.

A rainbow of chaos. "Wha-er look. Dust is resting right now. If you're that worried about him, leave him be so he can recover. Doctor said he'll be fine." Mai placed a hand over her heart, dramatically sighing along with the rest of her female populace.

It made Carly twitch in disgust. Especially since she knew it was 100 percent bullshit. "That's fantastic news! We were all worried sick when we heard he was hurt. Can you give us any details on his injuries or when he's expected to be back on his feet?" All eyes were on the man, and he was sweating bullets.

The expression looking very familiar to Crow. "I-i'm afraid I can't say. It's not my right." His response made several of the girls glare and whine. It was as if he was dealing with a sea of sirens. Each figure in front of him more dangerous than any sort of criminal he's faced in his career as a member of Sector Security.

A small sigh is heard from behind the tall figure. "It's ok Gumshoe..." The man hesitated a moment, glancing back from his shoulder. But seeing how the intensity of the gazes around him and Dust giving permission...he relented. "You got five minutes lady-then he's getting rest. Doctor's orders."

With a happy squeal Mai dives right by him, nearly knocking Gumshoes over. Crow couldn't stand watching anymore. Knowing exactly what was going to happen. It was just going to be more flirtatious babbling nonsense with poor Dust trying to get her to kindly fuck off.

Something that the poor guy wasn't going to do. "I'd suggest you guys be careful when investigating this year. I don't know if it's just because of my suspicions, but something's been going on behind the scenes and it's about to get worse because of it." He pushes himself off the railing.

"Why should we check this out Crow? Despite what you said I don't recall owing you any favors." The ginger pauses mid step, he was just a second away from reaching the door. He huffed, giving Jack a cold gaze with a wicked grin.

As if he knew something the champion didn't. "It's no skin off my nose-but if my hunch is right...you're going to be shit out of luck come this year's tournament." With that he leaves, closing the door gently.

Crow couldn't care less about the competition right now, but he knew the right buttons to push. Despite being called stupid he WAS a duelist. Strategy was just as important as luck in a match and he planned on using that to his advantage.

"Yusei...I really hope my instincts are wrong...because if it is you-then that must mean there's trouble." Knowing Carly, she was going to investigate. It was just a matter of how much she finds. He was really hoping his instincts were wrong.

As much as Crow joked about Yusei joining him on the dark side of the Satellite, that was all it was-a joke. Because there was some serious shady shit that happened in the shadows. Yusei was a good guy who was living the honest, fulfilling life.

He wouldn't be caught dead anywhere near here if there wasn't a good reason. The short tempered duelist was really not looking forward to finding out what that reason was. In the beginning, Crow had shrugged off the strange sense of familiarity between Dust and Yusei.

The eyes that seemed so full of expressive emotion especially. But the longer he hanged out with the gentleman a sense of dread hit him. He found himself finding more and more similarities, and every time he tried getting ahold of Rally, Yusei was always supposedly busy.

'Oh he's in the garage working.' Or 'He just left to go pick up groceries, want me to leave a message for him?' It was suspicious, and every time he questioned it, one of the other guys would take the phone, trying to distract him.

And now that he's looking at Gumshoe, he was starting to see similarities to a certain security guard in the Satellite. A tag team that didn't look or even sound right in any given circumstance. "What the hell was going on?" He rubbed his temples to stave off a headache.

Whether he wanted to or not, he was going to get answers.
