Chapter 8

Why did he have to be right? The talk took forever, but it was mostly just catching up with each other. Makarov wanted to know how he came to be in possession of all of his kids and Naruto questioned him about the guild.

"This place still looks the same as it always has." Naruto spoke as he looked around the office.

"It was supposed to be yours, not mine." Makarov pointed out to him while giving his famous disappointed stare.

"You know I couldn't do that. Every time I stay in one place too long it ends up badly. Look at the youngest's village. I killed their parents and made them orphans." He looked down at the baby still in his arms, "This one will never know them and the village will never be the same. He has a demon sealed in him for crying out loud."

Realization washed over Makarov. Naruto only ever told the guild masters the truth about his past and his true age and every single one of them believed him and even let him stay. It was refreshing to get such a positive reaction. It was nice to know there were still people who could look past the cursed parts of people's lives and accept them for who they are. "He's like you then."

"No." Naruto looked Makarov straight in the eyes, "His life will be nothing like mine if I can stop it."

Makarov nodded along before he looked Naruto up and down. "It might be ten years later, but you are still the same old Naruto." He smiled before his face returned to being neutral once again, "I have to ask. Are you going to be doing missions for the guild?"

There was a question that Naruto didn't want to answer. He could, should, take missions for the guild, but he didn't want to. He had enough of all the fighting and pain humanity brought upon each other to last ten life times; which considering his age said a lot.

"No," Naruto started before looking down at Adi, "I would rather not hurt people more than I can help it. If someone attacks us or requests my help I will of course fight, but until then I prefer to stay back and heal those who are hurt. I'm sure the kids would love to meet everyone and go to the new places that mission will require of them, so you will have their support."

"Good we could use some Wondering Dragons to help us along our way." Naruto wasn't even surprised that Makarov knew who his children were. It wasn't like they had tried to hide, they never did, but most people didn't expect those so strong to be so young.

There was a knock on the door before they could finish their conversation and Makarov ran over and opened the door to a young woman with long white hair standing in a dress. "I'm sorry to bother you master, but Lucus is awake and I thought you would like to talk to him?" She asked as she looked over at Naruto. She was a curious one; that could be trouble.

"Of course Mira, thank you. I'm sorry Naruto, but it seems we will have to continue another time." Makarov apologized as they made their way out of the room.

"No need to apologize. Go talk some sense into that grandson of yours and we'll talk later." Naruto responded as he made his way back down to the ground floor and looked for his kids. The twins were over by another kid that looked a lot like Macao; must have been his son. Natsu was butting heads with a kid about his age that seemed to have stripped. Weird, but not the weirdest he had seen. Naruto shuddered at the thought of Lee and Guy together and their impossible genjutsu they could activate that couldn't be deactivated. It still gave him nightmares. Wendy was talking to a young woman who was chugging a keg of beer and a young blond that was ignoring the entire thing. He spotted keys on the blond's hip so she was a celestial mage. He should give her the key he found on his long trip. Sting was by Natus cheering him on while the other two, Gajeel and Rogue, stood in the corner watching all the crazy people go about their day. Yep, some places just never change.

"You're the one Erza was calling a pervert, correct?" A young girl who looked like Mira spoke as she came from his right.

"I am." Naruto sighed as he held Adi a little closer to his chest. The poor baby had woken up because of the change of noise level, but he simply tried to look around the room before settling on staring at Naruto's face. Naruto looked down at the feeling of eyes on him and smiled at the baby in his arms before giving his belly a little tickle.

"Seeing your daughter stand up for you and what you are doing now I can't believe Erza." She responded, "I'm Lisanna and the big oof over there yelling about being a man is my brother Elfman and Mira is my older sister"

"Well then, it's nice to meet you Lisanna. I'm Naruto and this little guy is Adi." Lisanna smiled at him and gave him a wave while running off to do something. Naruto made his way over to the table the twins were at before his arm started to heat up. Someone needed him.

"Hla could you hold your brother again, someone is trying to summon me." That was all he needed to say before Hla took his little brother and continued to talk to the other child and his sister with Adi securely in his lap. Naruto walked out the door and into the night before disappearing in a flash.

He reappeared into a clearing that he didn't recognize, only to catch a young woman as she fell into his arms. She had long black hair and pale skin and Naruto knew who she was without even needing to think about it. "Minerva, what happened?" Naruto had come across Minerva when her father had left her in the woods for a week to toughen her up. He had asked her to come with him, but at the time she refused, still believing that her father wanted the best for her. He had left her with a seal with the instructions that if she ever changed her mind he would come and get her. Well, she had set off the seal, so something had happened.

"He wanted me to destroy a giant village, but I couldn't so he beat me and I couldn't take it anymore. Years ago you wanted to take me away and now I'm asking you to do that now. I want to leave, please just take me away." Naruto held her and was about to teleport away until another young figure walked out from behind a tree. It was a little girl about Minerva's age who had long red hair.

"Who are you little one?" Naruto asked quietly and Minerva termed her head to look at who he was talking about before hiding her face her his chest once again.

"My name is Flare and I wanted to thank the girl in your arms for not destroying my home." She spoke softly and walked into the clearing. Naruto could see her better in the moonlight and she was barely wearing a thing. It made sense, giants were too big to sew her clothes. It would be like a human making doll clothes, possible, but hard. Minerva lifted her head to stare at Flare as if she was another species all together. "Why would you thank me? I almost destroyed your home."

"Almost is the key word there. You didn't and for that I wanted to thank you." She turned her attention to Naruto next. "The giants have asked me to go with you for my own safety. They say you can take care of me in ways that they can't."

"If you wish to come with us you may. Just know I recently re-joined a guild and if you wanted to you could join as well, but I want you to know you have the option to say no. I will still care for you to the best of my ability." Flare nodded her head in understanding before making her way over to Naruto. She grabbed his coat sleeve and held on tightly as he pulled her in and teleported to one of his markers. Not the one he had outside of the guild, but to one in a little town that housed a multi-million dollar resort.

"What are we doing here?" questioned Flare as she looked around at the town.

"You need some clothes and Minerva is recognizable in her clothes, so the clone I left to trick her father would be useless." Naruto explained as he pulled the girls into the town as the sun started to rise. He had sent a clone back to the guild to take care of the kids once he had realized who had called them and how long the process would take to get her to safety, but it was worth it in his mind. Some people gave him a confused look as he walked to the nearest store that sold children's clothing and he prayed that no one would try to grab him and luckily no one did. The girls had a blast trying on different types of clothing until they each had five full offers and two pairs of shoes. He paid for them and had them change before taking their hands again and leading them through town. While they were walking down the main street Naruot noticed some movement out of the corner of his eyes. There was another little girl with black hair staring at some bread in the shop window. He pulled the other two with him as he walked up to her.

"Are you okay?" He asked in a low voice and she spun around to stare at him just as her stomach growled. "Hungry." He looked into the bakery window and saw all sorts of sweet treats and pastries that were freshly baked. "Come one, let's get you some food." He pulled the girls to the door and let them go in first before waiting for the other child to follow them. Once she was in he went in as well to see Flare and Minerva drooling over some of the sweets on display.

"How can I help you all today?" The baker asked as he came to the front from the back. All of the girls looked at him and he smiled. They all looked so hopeful. In Minerva's and the new girl's eyes was a look that was painfully familiar. They hoped someone would give them food so they could live. They were just hungry and in pain. He just needed a little. Just enough to continue to move so he could make it to the river to fish. Why wouldn't anyone help him?

He was brought out of his thoughts by a hand tugging on his sleeve and he looked down to see the newest child pulling on his arm. He smiled and said, "You all get whatever you want." and waited for the kids to pick out what they wanted. Once they were done he made his way to the end of the table to pay for all the sweets the girls had picked out and there were a lot of them, but he was more than happy to get the girls what they wanted/ needed.

"Thank you sir, come back again." He bowed and said he would before leading the three children to a nice tree to lean against to talk and eat.

"He opened one of the many bags of sweets the girls picked out and let them all choose two. Flare only took one stating she wasn't hungary, but the other too listened to their stomach now that they were safe. It broke his heart to see the kids acting this way. He had a dark history with hunger. He had gotten so hungry one year during winter that he had eaten his neighbor's cat in order to live. He had always felt so bad about it, but it was what had to be done. He was once again pulled out of his thoughts by the new girl holding a pastry out for him to take.

"I'm fine, sweety, but thank you." She refused and shoved it back into his face with a glare and a quick, "Take it." before she returned to her own pastry after he took it from her. She ate some-what quickly. She had to force herself to slow down in order to not choke, but she wanted to eat faster. It was like if she couldn't eat it fast enough the food would disappear, but it wouldn't. Not on Naruto's watch.

"What's your name, little one?" Naruto asked after taking a bite of his own pastry. It was pretty good.

The girl paused for a second before responding, "I'm Kagura."

"That's a pretty name." Naruto complemented before taking another bite. "Where are you parents?"

At that question, the girl started to cry and she confirmed Naruto's suspicions. Her parents were either dead or had left her. Was it bad to hope someone was dead?

"Hey it's okay, if you want you can come with us." Naruto hugged her as she cried until she had calmed down enough for him to feel good about letting her go.

"Really?"

"Of course, we are going to a guild, you can join or just hang out, either way I don't care and I will take care of you for as long as you need me." Naruto responded before finishing his treat and pulling the girl up off of the ground. The other two followed his lead and stood up before they hugged Kagura.

"Naruto is the best. He rescued us today too, so we are like sisters." Minerva spoke as she squeezed Kagura tightly. Flare nodded her head and Kagura squeezed back.

"I like the idea of having a sister. I only had a brother growing up until he disappeared." She spoke softly as the hug ended.

"What was his name?" Naruto asked. He was well traveled so maybe he could find the kid.

"Simon." That one was a no go. He hadn't heard of any trafficked kid by that name and as far as he knew nothing huge had happened except for the towner that was out to sea blowing up. There was one death, but it couldn't have been him right. No one way. "Sorry I can't help you there, but I have some kids already so you will be getting four older brothers and an older sister along with a younger sister and two younger brothers."

The girls squealed at that and ran off towards the edge of town and Naruto hurried to catch up with them so he could turn them around and bring them back to town to get Kagura some clothes as well. It was almost like back in the orphanage. He would run around tiring the kids out right before bed until they had gotten too "old" to do so. It was his favorite part of the day. Shika would be cooking their dinner and come get him when it was done, then they would tuck the kids in and head off to bed themselves. He had missed it.

After a quick shopping spree at a different shop Naruto lead the girls to the train station to catch the train. He could have teleported the girls and him directly to the guild hall, but he didn't want to get back too quickly. 1) it would make him suspicious 2) he would like to relax 3) he needed to get to know the girls better. So that was what he did. He spent the entire time talking to the kids and getting a better idea of who they were and what they liked. Naruto even showed them an old game he used to play as a kid, that old, and they seemed to enjoy it until they all fell asleep in a pile in the seat across from him. He smiled and pictured a dark blue couch underneath them with the old wood walls of the orphanage behind them instead of train cars.

His family was growing day by day and he had no problem with that. From having no one, to having great friends and a boyfriend, to having nothing, to having a husband and many kids, to nothing, and finally back to having a lot of kids he was pretty content. He knew logically he shouldn't be doing this for the sake of his emotional health, but he couldn't help it. These kids needed the help he never got, but he was going to do his best to give them what he never had as a kid. A loving parental figure, a warm home to return to, and a house full of siblings that loved them. He had five teens, four boys, one girl, three tweens, all girls, two children, a girl and a boy, a newborn, a boy, and five magical cats, four boys and one girl. Fifteen people he thought of had his kids and he wouldn't have it anyother way. He would give them the world if they asked and he would make sure they weren't hurt any more than they needed to be to grow into fine people. After all, if you never lose anything, how will you learn to look? If you never fall, how can you learn to rise? Naruto leaned his head back and closed his eyes. His family was growing and he would have it no other way. Any person who needed his help would help any repercussions be damned.
